Said this in another thread but I haven't been overly impressed by Fogarty, the feeling that I get is that he's able to dominate because he's so much bigger than his peers. Looks like Tom Hawkins would if he played in midfield.

On the other hand, I like Rayner very much, almost the complete package.

Honestly, if the only knock on a potential draftee was their endurance, that shouldn't influence ones decision.

Easily fixable.

I understand what your saying about his size and physical development being ahead of others in u18's but every year that gets trotted out as a negative about a top player and that player goes on to be a very good AFL player.

The same could have been said about Ollie wines and many others. You may have other good reasons to doubt Fogarty but quite often size in u18's turns out to be a strength not a weakness. I guess it must depend on a combination of attributes.

Same thing could have been said about Cripps.

Fogarty's got more about him at the same age, and arguably a better short burst. Dangerous prospect if he can get lean.
Don't agree. Cripps wasn't the beast he is now at the champs. Also don't think Fogarty has the same ability to find the ball. Will be interesting to see how he goes in coming weeks, but as an in between height I think he will slide.

I thought Cripps was still pretty big in u18's, not as tall as he is now.

"WHEN Cripps played in the West Australian under-15s side, he was the smallest in the team. Three years on, it is Cripps' height that is his defining factor in his push towards the NAB AFL Draft. Cripps grew 20cm in two years and now stands at 192cm, and this season he learned how to use it. "

How was his disposal?

Extremely sub par game from all, his pressure was ok had a lot of handballs.... no hurt factor in any of his possessions. Bucketed down for a bit which didnt particularly help. Has a good frame and as i said some wheels but needs a lot of work.

if Silvagni wants a tall, Brander or Sutherland (I'm hoping he chooses the AFL experts raving about this lad is the best tall or between UDL , Fogarty or O'Brien for outside speed and agility.
Any of these lads will be guns and great addition to our youngsters.
In Silvagni & Brodie we trust.

Fogarty, Rayner, Brander, LDU, Hayes.

I would be pretty excited to land one of these blokes...

However, we clearly need midfielders - I think this has us favorite for LDU at this stage, though feel we might try and poach a ready made midfielder such as Hopper (so the rumors say).

If we can pinch a Hopper, then I would be pretty satisfied with Rayner/Fogarty as mid/fwd types - but have to think a future forward line of McKay and Brander would be a nightmare for opposition KPD.

Love the idea in theory, but with Ben Silvagni coming in 2018 and Weitering playing forward at times I think we are well stocked for tall quality KPF's at the moment. At this stage, i'd be going after LDU in this years draft with our first pick, and offering up our first next year for Hopper.

Agree HBF, structurally its a better approach is LDU a better prospect than O'Brein? would love his speed and footy nous.
Hopefully we can entice Josh Sahache over from the lions too, if he nominates us it it wouldn’t be crazy expensive would be amazing.

I haven't seen much of LDU, so i'm waiting for the champs to see how he's travelling. Most of the draft watchers have him ahead of O'Brien at this stage, and I think he would compliment Cripps better than what say Fogarty would.

Why would you swap next year's 1st for Hopper? Is he better than anyone we'd get with pick #5-7?

My Navy Blue 2017 draft wishlist (with the picks we currently hold):
#2 –
Our specific need is for another midfielder and clearance specialist to complement Cripps, Murphy, SPS and our other on-ball brigade. A huge requirement it seems of SOS & Bolton’s is possessing elite disposal and I cannot see our first pick being any different.
Although it’s way too early to really determine the best players available for this year’s draft, I will be keeping close eyes on:
LDU, Rayner, D.Fogarty, Higgins, O’Brien, L.Fogarty, Garner, Giro, Hewson, Worpel & Stephenson.

#38 –
For our third round pick I’m placing a little more emphasis on picking for needs which in this case is for a Key Forward. Although he may not slide to this pick, Noah Balta (Calder Cannons / Vic Metro) is the guy I like. A 193cm, 88kg, athletic key forward who possesses rare speed, a terrific leap, and certain X-factor. He consistently breaks lines and could form a formidable partnership with H.McKay as a roaming forward.

#56 –
With our fourth pick I would love to pick up the mature age indigenous player Liam Ryan (Subiaco). An excitement machine, this 184cm, 76kg, small forward possesses skill, speed and intelligence to create moments of magic in the forward line. He is a freakishly good mark and has a tremendous leap to match. In his debut season last year he kicked 40 goals from 16 games and was nominated on two separate occasions for ‘Mark of the Year’. In 2017 he has already been nominated for ‘Mark of the Year’ and has kicked 33 goals from 9 games.

#74 –
A gem if he slips this far but Ethan Penrith (Northern Knights) should be our first player drafted from our Next Generation Academy (NGA), and can be picked up under the same rules as father-son.
The exciting 179cm, 74kg rebounding defender enjoys taking the game on by using his line-breaking speed to launch attacks out of the defensive 50. Despite his size, agility and attacking nature, Penrith is also very combative and isn’t afraid to get stuck in and win the contested ball. It is this trait which helped see him win the Knights’ Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 as a bottom ager. He needs to work on his disposal, which can lack polish when he is at full tilt, but he has a very solid base to build on. He may also be picked up for a CAT B Rookie if he isn’t bid on in the senior or rookie draft.

Rookie or CAT B Rookie (NGA) – Artan Cabdi (midfielder)
International Rookie - Drew Martin (USA - Prospect Ruckman)

There is no real way to know that without a crystal ball or fortune teller. What we do know is one of them will be entering his third season in the AFL system and will be further developed and one of them wont be. And we already know that SOS is very keen on Hopper. Id be wanting more than Hopper alone for the 2018 first FWIW.

Agreed. Don't want to be trading ourselves completely out of the first round if possible, and if we do it should get us a couple of bites at the cherry.

Most had us climbing to 12-14 on the ladder leading into this season. Reality hits and we're looking at a top 2-3 pick. If we trade next year's first we need to assign an assumed value of Pick 2 to make sure we're covered in the event of a bad year.
