List Mgmt. 2017 Draft Needs...

I think today illustrated we need to draft a developing KPD this draft because there isn't one in waiting on our list and personally I just can't see Hartigan getting the job done in the inferno of Finals pressure. Oscar Claravino is one we should be watching very closely over the next few months. Lever I'm certain will handle Finals pressure but not convinced he'll ever be able to handle the bigger bodied Forwards that are coming through the system currently.

Hartigan was murdered because of our awful defensive pressure. Sure, he was individually bad as well, but did you see some of the passes into North's forward line? Indefensible

And what exactly have we got coming through the 2's or indeed on our list as any sort of back up.
Dear is being played Forward and not setting the world on fire, Doedee is an intercept mark/Flanker, Himmelberg by all signs thus far is being groomed as a Forward, a swingman Otten is our only insurance the way I see it. I don't know about you but to me Dear does not seem to be developing at all into a genuine AFL standard footballer. Would have taken the tall, athletic Zac Sproule with a rookie pick last year with the view to developing him as a KPD personally.

I think we need a KPD and KPF, but not to replace our current players during our window. Drafting a KPD now to replace Hartigan next year is not going to be a successful strategy. But having some extra decent talls, particularly a good KPF, would strengthen our depth for now and hopefully produce something good in a few years

I'd have a KPD ahead of a KPF. We're ok-ish up forward with Dear and Himmelberg, but have zero depth down back in a taller defender (I'm not counting Keath). No reason why we can't take a chance on both though.

Yeah I like Rayner most at this point with Fogarty a close second and O'Brien a close 3rd but long way to go

Fogarty will be lucky to be top 5 not because he isnt good I think he's fantastic and would give my left nut if adelaide could get him, you will see him play league all year and do well but not brilliant as the players are better, if he wants to stand out put him in the 18 s and dominate. Recruiters tend to look at stats and Fogarty playing league will not get them which is the same as Martini playing league for the bays, if he was playing 18 s he would be unstoppable however he's getting around 16 possessions weekly and holding his own in a league team against men he played well against a full list power team meaning everyone of them were older than him as he is only 17 where port even their rookies have experience on their side as his draft year is this year and everyone of them AFL listed

None of which excuses his awful kicking today even when not under pressure. He panics.

Agree re Dear and been saying it for years that I don't think he will make it . The best thing we can hope is he lifts his form enough that we can trade him

No Fogarty is very highly rated - if he lives up to it in national champs I can see top 3

There is some top end local talent this year. But as per normal we will finish 4th to 8 and get locked out of the top 10 and we will no doubt trade away that pick plus our second to Carlton for a 30 year old Gibbs. Then Gov will leave and our elite list managers will accept a second rounder for him which we will use to draft a half back flanker.
Then we will pick up some kids at the end of the draft and will say how they cant believe they were there at that pick as we had them rated as first rounders.
And of course half the people here will swallow it.

I agree re the SA talent available this year with this draft likely to be our best result in recent years but at this stage Fogarty you would have to say is the only one near certain to not be there at our pick and maybe the versatile Ruck/Forward Callum Coleman-Jones. Still looks to be some really good prospects that should be available at our 1st pick if we still have it and even later in the draft there will still be some quality SA boys still on the table I reckon. Stefan Giro is one I like with a later pick.

2018 we look to already have 4 red hot prospects too in KPP Jack Lukosius, midfielder Connor Rozee. wingman Luke Valente and small forward Izak Rankine.

Lukosius could be really, really special on what he's already displayed.
And what annoys me is that these top kids next year we wont be able to draft either.

If we think there's some good SA kids around next year we want we should trade this year's first rounder for Port's next season first rounder. They'll think they'll be giving up Pick 18 so will be keen

SA will dominate the 2018 draft !! Should get some first rounders and Top 10s

Fogarty the clear leader this year

Haha but seriously it's a good idea if we get deep into next years draft . Depending on where we are headed it might be worth trading into 2 picks 1st round next year

I would love to see us do something to try and get a top 5 pick and have a shot at a Fogherty.
If we lose Gov and get a first rounder I would like to see us swap two later firsts for a pick to get him.
Lets be aggressive to get some A grade talent that we dont have to worry every contract renewal that they want to go home.

If gov leaves, he should get a first. Trade that and our first for Fyfe or Martin. Use a second on Gibbs who, as a third best mid, will cause huge damage.

And then I wake up.

U'll need pick 1, early but I think
1 Fogarty
2 Stephenson
3 Davies Uniake
4 Rayner
5 Brander
Just from what Ive seen Cerra could be the Smokey in top 5 with Powell

Have they lumped Tasmania in with the Allies now? Just another example of the AFL neglecting traditional football states for Vic and NSW/Qld.

We need to do something creative for sure , we can't wait . We need blue chip guaranteed midfield talent

Alot of clubs consider this a weak draft and may look to trade into next years

This gives us an opportunity to acquire 2 1st round picks ( giving up next years or if we unfortunately lose a player )

Now from what I've seen and heard there is no point holding 2 teen picks

With where we are at we need to trade those to get a top 8 pick at worst

Fogarty Rayner O'Brien and Davies-Uniacke and maybe Cerra come into calculations

the Allies is the combined Div 2 states

They have 2 good ones coming through next year but not much this year

Jones and Thomas are guns but Thomas in one of those next gen academies so will go straight to North Melbourne

Powell won't be top 20 , will fall 25-40 I reckon . Doesn't win enough ball , is small and lacks speed . Very clean ball handler and steady player but not top end
