What I don’t get is this draft has been bagged, but then we keep reading about players who are awesome, what gives?

Even the suckiest suck players had super amazeballs descriptions in their draft

The draft is one of the key ways the AFL keeps fans engaged in the off season. It’s a major event

Everyone has a vested interest in making sure that as much people are engaged by it no matter how bad it might be

So when it sucks, they put out “official” sounding pronouncements like: not as deep as some years but the first 25 are outstanding.

In great years it’s: the joy of this draft is how deep it bats, right down low in the draft are players who would be top 30 in other years

In essence: here are some reasons to stay tuned. When it’s no good we’ll roll out the top end bullshit

And every year the same people buy it

Cal Twomey just tweeted the 2km results for Rayner and Fogarty.

7:57 for Rayner
7:33 for Fogarty

Quoting from Knightmare's thread. Both very Average, but if anything D Fog more excusable due to injury and sheer physical size?

It's still VERY slow

It's still VERY slow
I realise.

That's why I am saying, of all the times posted, Fogarty's was best, and he is second only to CCJ size wise from that group. They were all slow. However, Fogarty carried the meniscus tare for many weeks, then was obviously recovering, potentially losing more fitness than those who ran worse. Notably Rayner and Constable are touted as future mids, yet Fogarty has more question marks.

:p is Fogarty tanking the run to get to the Crows .......his top 10 status depends on whether clubs believe he can play midfield

These had no excuses .....Raynor has been poor for ever, yet still touted #1 ......wtf do clubs think about?, they overlook issues with some players & not others ???

Callum Coleman-Jones (7:35) and Charlie Constable (7:58) also completed the run ahead of undergoing further tests with club medicos in the afternoon.

Coleman-Jones as a 100kg ruck/fwd significantly out did Constable and Rayner. Fogarty just pipped him, but at 192cm and 90kg, he is a big unit for an 18yr old.

I guess it depends on what recruiters are looking for, but if they want a full time mid, they should steer clear of any of the 3 in this trial IMO. It sounds like Constable really worked on his running this year gone, and even still it is very poor. Sometimes genetics go against you.

Correct .....and still people overlook these times & rate them high, and yet a Sam Hayes is downgraded for a similar poor tank .......it simply makes no sense, and history has proven these judges have blundered

Raynor = Stringer, who clubs all excused his broken leg & poor times, believing he'd eventually transition to a FT Mid ......did not happen

Maybe, but clubs will be buying a ticket for a Dusty, and willing to settle for a Stringer. Not a bad fall back. Think you would have to go with Rayner if you had number 1. The only thing would be is there any of the other top 3 or 4 that is highly likely to stay in Brisbane long term. No point in missing out on 10 years of LDU or Dow if you only get 2-3 years of Rayner plus a pick 5-10 on the way out.

Would be very happy with Higgins.. he’s got massive amounts of talent and potential and is probably the hardest worker out of all the players in the draft.. he’s just a bit on the short side!..

Rather Aiden though.. and wasn’t it rumoured that the giants were very keen on Higgins?.. if that’s the case they would pick him and Aiden would end up at 12.

Yes, I agree Higgins to GWS is strongly rumoured .... so those two picks could interchange

I reacon it’s just about on the money.. the only things that could change are Stephenson sliding due to the obvious health concerns and Aiden Bonar being picked by either Carlton or the Saints taking the risk with one of their two picks..
Clubs have known about Stephenson’s condition longer than the media .....also Bradshaw strongly linked to Freo at either #2 or #5

Fact is ATM everyone’s guessing & very little leaks

The hope for mine is for Bonar to go to someone like the Saints or Blues (as it doesn’t sound like we’re interested in him even if he gets to our pick), which means the Giants IMO take Higgins at 11

Can see 7-12 going like this:
Stephenson (dependant on heart condition)
Clark
Naughton
Bonar
Higgins
Coffield

So are you saying that my pick of Coffield, that everyone boo-hood me, is a possibility ?

Yep, if the draft falls a particular way

Sounds like Saints and Blues would be interested, but they could very well go other ways (Dogs too, but there’s also rumours that they aren’t). At this stage I doubt he gets to 12, though

I’d be very happy if he did

Having a laugh at suggestions Bulldogs will take a KPP :p ......they already have the tallest list in the AFL
