I think you've missed the point of the question.
No i got it .......no we don't / won't draft at #12 a flanker like Richards .......a Coffield will start at HB, but graduate to the Midfield .......a 191 cm midfielder with elite decision making :hearts:

I understand this thinking with a 2nd round pick ......but at #12 we don't take backup players & this looking to replace Smith thinking is just wrong

Pick 12 has to have, Leadership qualities, good skills & thinking under pressure .....and generally we've taken players that have gone well at the running at the Combine

Are leadership qualities really a prerequisite?
Cant we just aim for a pure footballer this time?

Agree with some of this in principle , Richards seems to have all those traits however

So I wouldn't rule him out following those criteria

So if Andrew Mackie came along now you wouldn't take him ? Or Corey Enright ?
Well Enright was taken at #47 ......so yes i would take him

Mackie .....No, IMO he hasn't influenced enough games to be a #12 .........Mackie or Danger ?

Problem with this is that his contested ball winning still needs work

I see a very dangerous, sure thing wingman/half back flank in Coffield, which is still a great get at 12

If one with Leadership is not there at #12 , well you look to the rest of the attributes .......but it has been a characteristic of our first round picks, Milera an obvious exception, but that counteracted by bucket loads of "X" factor

Agreed so much

Leadership traits are great, but they need to be a bonus. The real character trait we should require is a ‘lead by example’ type, both on the field and in training (like Tex/Mrouch)

Gee i get pissed when players not even in first round consideration 2 weeks ago .....now is being even discussed for #12 .......lets move on to someone plausible

There's only a few players in this draft who don't have a lot of deficiencies to develop .....hence why this draft is so hard to pick the order .....it's each clubs view on each players developmental potential

Unlikely for our pick but maybe in our talent order around 12-15 as we might rate him here for us . Unlikely he's our 1st choice when we call

You said it's the last 3 months that count well he's the classic one

Yeah it is our M.O. I agree.
I think we have that area covered by now though surely?
For some reason I cant help but feel the ones with such qualities(who can actually play) also come with the go-home or GTF out of Adelaide gene.
Would rather we start targeting your Dustin Martin types ;).

How many dangers have there been at 12 over the years ?

Mackie is worth a top 10 pick even in hindsight and Enright a top 5
IIRC ......One?

But Enright wasn't taken #5 ......he was #47 .....that's the point of the discussion as to where you take these role players in the Draft

right, I'm saying we should or will be moving Smith, but IF we wanted Richards at 12, what's the end game?

Nothing wrong with this either, but i'd suggest Martin falls into the Milera category of "X" factor overriding leadership

That said we've lost two leadership quality players in Lever & Thommo

The point is if a player is a gun it doesn't matter if he's a mid or a half back I'd take the elite half back over the B grade mid

If a club had of recruited Corey Enright at pick 5 it would have been the right call

Just pick the best player , we don't have a glaring mid weakness compared to other positions anymore

Exactly! ......IMO more potential upside Fogarty, Coffield, Bonar ect ......but that's just my opinion

Need more antisocial arseholes that can play. Milera has pleny of x but not much arseh*le.
Every gun premiership team has them.
Lever was potential. The Crouch boys .then it drops off big time.
Reckon Gallucci smacks of a natural leader. Reckon he is our next major flight risk also.
