Who are you choosing from WW? Are you going from what you presume is outside of the top 10 or...?

Yep... Surely not every bloke you pick up has to be considered a potential future superstar.. just looking at that footage I posted up he looks like a good solid player that gets a hell of a lot of the football and isn’t scared to cop a few hits in doing so.. a work horse that plays consistent hard footy week in week out.. if he’s a potential 2018 round one starter the crows would be stupid not to grab him if he’s still there, as some suggest he will be, at pick 39.

If you are a team that doesn’t believe in bottoming out to rebuild as clearly the Crows are then your first round selection has to be all about trying to get the superstar through the door unless of course you have multiple 1st round picks.

He's played mid most of the year for the Dandenong Stingrays and certainly ever since the championships in every game and was the best midfielder on the ground both times I saw him live this year, way better than teammate the likely No.1 Luke Davies-Unakie on the last occasion. You've obviously never seen Clark play live if your description is a "safe" draft pick...
Don't have to see a player live ......if you think LDU is not as good then i'm afraid we'll never agree ......LDU is the best in this draft !

I like Mids that have agility and a bit of sidestep ......now in my draft i actually have Hunter going B4 our pick, so i'm not saying he's not a good player, just that there are IMO more preferred players

Spot on & that player may not be at his peak output at U18 level / draft year

I've discounted the top 7 picks that are absolutely guaranteed to go b4 our pick .....players like Rayner, LDU, Dow ect ......just players that we have half a sniff at getting or want

Oh OK, interesting way to look at it.

For mine, assuming Rayner, LDU, Dow, Stephenson, Cerra and Brayshaw are 100% off the board.

Fogarty (Local, highest ceiling, take the risk)
Bonar (High Ceiling, big question marks)
Hunter-Clark (Duel sided, inside and out, very handy type)
Coffield (Not a big fan but the potential is there)
Higgins (I do rate, personally think he is a good fit for GWS, but with Gooch and Jars already listed, less of a priority)

I like to pick for upside a lot of the time, hence Fogarty and Bonar being my favourite options.

My biggest worry however is plucking O'Brien or Brander. I like competitors or at least physically adept players. I don't see either becoming anything more physical than Dmac and Jenkins respectively.

Fogarty is a no brainer if available

The go home factor is going to get worse and the only way to keep interstate talent is pay big as we are witnessing

Home grown talent will more often than not stay for less we see Gibbs taking a pay cut to play in SA

Something we don't do it's evenly spread

Bicks, Can't find any footage of Bonar. Presume he didn't play much footy this year as he was coming back from injury. Have you seen him play live? I worry that people are judging him on his athletic abilities rather than whether he can play footy.

Also, curious to know how/why you became so interested in underage footy. Is it just a hobby for you or do you work in the industry?

Yeah, but the point I’m making is, looking at the footage available for Warpel, if you got him at pick 39 it would be a massive win.. he’d be ready to play from round one next year.

I couldn’t find any decent footage of Bonar either.. he sounds like a decent prospect though..

It's not that I don't expect them to have faults, i certainly do. It's more that i rate decision making under pressure highly and think it's not the easiest thing to fix.
Hunter Clarke is one of the better ones with ball in hand so don't worry re that aspect with him

2 sided as well

He will be a good solid player , I prefer if Bonar was there we picked him and I have clarke and Fogarty fairly similar in preference

I'm also putting Constable up as a very good player and almost the best player in the U18 champs this year

After he champs he got sore and injured and still played well but not at his peak

190cm with footy IQ , constested ball winner , very good kick and good overhead with versatility in his game to play back , forward but will be a full time mid like he was for most of the champs

The draft watchers are comparing him to Patrick Cripps

Not much there not to like in those traits

I've first took up a real interest when one my friend's sons got invited to try out with the then Ballarat Rebels now the Greater Western Victoria Rebels about a 9 or 10 years ago, been following the Rebels ever since and through that get to see most of the kids that play in the TAC Cup Comp from other clubs. I only needed to see Bonar once to know he had very, very special talents and talking to the parents of some of the Dandenong Stingrays players that day they were telling me that kids like Luke Davies-Unakie and Hunter Clark that had grown up with and played with him through the local junior ranks considered him the best of the bunch. I wrote a review of the game on getting home that day, Bonar's 2nd TAC game on resuming from his knee reco and posted it on here long before his name was even mentioned in draft discussions ..

Here's a copy and paste of what I posted back then.

Went into Mars Stadium today for the U18's footy, got there early in the 2nd quarter of the Gippy Power vs Bendigo Pioneers game.

Paddy Dow - 184cm 78kg Mid - Showed why he's so highly rated, quick, evasive, classy by foot with a bag of tricks to match, sure to be one of the 1st mids picked....Class

Jarrod Brander - 195cm 90kg KPP - Another that showed why he's one of the highly rated talls in this draft, his contested marking a feature along with a penetrating kick and decent below his knees as well....Class.

Callum Porter - 181cm 71kg Mid - Impressed with his inside work in and around the stoppages , good acceleration and very good overhead for his size - AFL attributes for sure. Will get drafted for sure.

Aiden Quigley - 183cm 72kg Mid - In and out of the game but showed he's draftable with several nice clearances and some good touches around the ground.

Kane Farrell - 180cm 72kg Mid - Gritty in and under no frills mid, exceptional contested ball winner with a decent penetrative kick. AFL attributes, likely gets drafted.

In the 3rd game the powerful Dandenong Stingrays easily accounted for the GWV Rebels in a hard tough game.

Hunter Clark - 186cm 79kg Mid/HB - Best mid on the ground today, strong in the contest/stoppages, good acceleration and pace, can tend to hurry his disposal but a lot to like about his all round skill set. I'd happily draft him with our 1st pick.

Luke Davies-Unakie - 187cm 86kg Mid - Big Brute of a kid, considering his high profile I thought he was a little underwhelming today, not as much of an impact around the stoppages as expected with his major influences more around the ground between half back and half forward where his long kicking was a feature. Likely long gone before our picks.

Aiden Bonar - 190cm 89kg HF/HB/Utility/Mid - I'd heard this kid could play, that's an under statement, big, strong lad, great mover, great overhead, nice pace and agility, penetrating kick, great prospect. Coming of 2 ACL's the reason why he's a bit of an unknown but by jesus has he got some talent. Potential Gun. Will go surprisingly high in the draft despite the ACL's IMO.

Oscar Claravino - 195cm 86kg KPD - One of the highly touted KPD's in this draft, had a reasonably good game taking quite a few intercept marks and a couple of good contested grabs also, looks composed and didn't miss many targets by foot. Good, steady defender.

Callan Wellings - 181cm 71kg Mid/HB/Wing - Ever reliable, good game in the midfield as well as working hard between half back and half forward to find plenty of the pill, surely an AFL team will give him crack this draft.

Lloyd Meek - 202cm 104Kg Ruck/KPF - the most dominant Ruckman on the ground, presented well and took some good contested grabs, good at ground level and very good by foot for a big fella. Good 4 quarter effort. Should at least be late/Rookie chance IMO.

Aiden Domic - 185cm 81kg Outside Mid/Wing - Quiet early but worked into the game nicely, again showed his elite endurance with some nice run and carry between half back and half forward as well as some nice work around the centre stoppages, generally decent by foot all day. Likely gets drafted in the back half of the draft but a player I'd have no qualms picking for us.

Flynn Appleby - 186cm 80kg Medium Defender - A typical Appleby game, playing on dominant TAC Cup forward Riley D'Arcy giving away height and weight and holding that player goalless. A no frills hard nosed defender with neat skills in the Luke Brown mould that I'd not hesitate to take late/rookie, could very well turn out to be an inspired pick for any team that considers him IMO.

Jordan Johnston - 184cm 74kg Medium Forward/Mid - The most talented of the Rebels boys this draft IMO, capable of some amazing aerial feats for his size, good pace, good evasiveness and agility, works hard both ways and defensively, very good by foot, dangerous around goal and late in the season has shown he's certainly capable in the midfield. I really hope he's on our recruiters radar as I think he's a "special" talent

'Brander's contested marking a feature', that was one of the knocks in him this year, spilling easy ones. Think he's had an off year and big blokes can do that in their early days. I still rate him highly and would be happy if he was our 12 after Fogs, Hunter and Bonar...and the obvious top 10 picks.

Is it? .....why? ....there maybe even be better players, with more upside, that you haven't considered?

 Then I'm watching a different game .......one of those so called "experts" has Constable going 2nd round?

Now, i'm not that down on him .....but i simply can't see more than a good average player

Saw Brander live twice in the TAC Cup Comp this season, good in one of the games where his side was dominant, very ordinary in the other where he was fumbly and I thought soft at the contest in what was generally a poor all round game, I vividly remember SA under ager Jack Lukosius absolutely pantsing Brander in one game at the Championships, so much so they moved Brander off him and played him Forward for the rest of the game.. If we're talking "potential" I'd take Noah Balta way before I'd take Brander, more X Factor and really hits the packs and contest a lot harder than Brander. Whilst Brander wouldn't be my preference his good is very good so I'd be fine with drafting him, however I suspect he'll go before pick 12 anyhow to a team needing a developing KPP..
Which team though Bicks ? ......i can only see COLL ?

Is Clark going to rocket up the charts Oliver style?!
Nope he's been a known quantity for over 12 months , at one stage was talked about as a potential number 1

He's had an outstanding junior career all told

His last 6 games were really good however when he proved his hybrid mid qualities

I reckon the Saints or Freo might be a chance too given both have multiple top ten picks, Freo 2 & 5, Saints 7 & 8 so can probably afford to be a little speculative like the Blues.
Reckon Freo may be a bit reluctant given the their picks are top 5.

Saints possible.

As much as I want it to happen, I can't see Adelaide taking him, even if available.

I really hope I'm wrong though.
