The lad wants to be a Pie, good luck with that Jarrod, wants to go to a club where he'll get the opportunity to play senior footy in 2018, how about you earn your stripes first son. Horse - Cart.

I don’t read it that way. All he’s said is Collingwood May have more openings than other clubs. Which may get you a run earlier. Plus your reading the writings of a journalist.
Next minute everyone is hypothesising he’s suggesting he wants to be drafted by a specific club.
Horse - cart.

Comparing Graham to Poholke after 5 games is asinine. Yes he had a pretty good game - does that mean he is a better footballer than Poholke? If we had drafted Graham he wouldn't have played in the GF.
"Showing something" early in a career is a function of opportunity. Why do you think Carlton got so many rising star nominations?

He may not have played in our side but he wouldn't have played against us and kicked 3

Just because he plays for the pear doesn’t make him shit. He’s 18 and I think held his own on the big stage . Certainly showed up a few of his softer team mates with his attack on the ball and contest . I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if he played for us.
Would have been a great selection and would have performed in a grand final at age 19

He's terrible by foot and he's as good as he is going to be at 19 years old.

MUCH prefer Milera. He is tremendous by hand and foot. A pure footballers brain.
Saying he's peaked at 19 is an absolute fallacy

Guys like him work on their game and better at all parts

The character of the kid is the important thing

He's already improved his kicking and can improve his forward line play and you'll start to see him use his speed more when he gets a chance

But the rules are the rules and they will continue to be exploited remember who votes the afl commission in which state has majority?

Rules change ! ......example "live trading" next year .......you're a conspiracy supporter :p

I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I think he's a man child, and like many who debut early he has very little upside.

Time will tell.

No, but Merret is a known quantity, picked up in the 30's representative of the risk attached IMO.

O'Brien is a unknown quantity whom does not look like developing into anything harder than Whitfield imo
:p do not go into recruiting .......Merrett taken at #26 in his draft year .....so many adopted your thoughts on Obrien and applied them to Zach Merrett

He was a man child at 18 and improved significantly from 18 to 19

So it doesn't really apply

It's more about what steps a kid is willing to take to make it , how much he wants it and how competitive he is

That's why this kid will continue to improve

And they are also completely different types of players

O' Brien is more outside than Gaff
Obrien is no different to the player Zack Merrett was when drafted ......and then Merretts had 3 years of development

You do realise players when drafted to develop other aspects of their game?

100% agree ......hence why SPP slid in the draft .....minimal upside

Ollie Wines likewise has tailored of from his first year, when hailed as a future Superstar of the AFL

So with the live trading of picks next year, surely that means all the pick swapsies that happen in the last few hours of trade period won't happen anymore (except for those in support of getting a pick to grab a player).

Also, will live trading involve future picks too?

I assume if clubs have the ability to "live" trade for a player on Draft night, that future picks will still be able to be part of the package?

I'm not expecting many, if any trades in the first draft ......once one club does a trade, other will follow the next draft, such is the sheep nature of AFL

The other thought, is clubs take two weeks now to enact a trade ......can AFL clubs be professional enough to do a deal in 10 min? ......doubt it, as we are still an Amateur Comp on worldwide standards

How is J Gallucci going? Are you excited by his potential? I haven't heard much about him.

Last year eagles basically had the choice between Gallucci and Venables. We chose Venables with pick 14 and you chose Gallucci with 15.
I made a note to try and keep an eye on Gallucci, to see if we screwed up. Venables looks good though and we should see him debut next year. I know Gallucci played one game for you.

I rate him highly but that's based only on the preseason games and the one AFL game. Reckon he's going to be a very, very good player.

For those interested Fox Footy's Draft & Combine show with Brad Johnson, Mick Ablett and Ben Dixon. Where they see the individual players going in the1st round starts at the 12 minute mark. They have us taking Jarrod Brander..

You want Hunter badly, don't you Bicks :p

He can chat to Alex Keath about cricket. Seems fairly bland from the Fox vision. Steady enough player but need better highlights

Isnt he also the player who sounds like Collingwood is his destination?

My Hamish Ogilve left field "special" would be Noah Balta...
So, what you're saying is he is your bolter
