Sloane not an elite kick?... geez, he’s a great kick for goal... doesn’t miss many..

And his field passes are unreal... I recall a few 50m passes this year that were bullet like and lace out on a team mate’s chest..

Thats fine I think hes an Ok kick but nothing like the elite kicks of the league like dusty and Burgoyne who cause damage, Kane Cornes had great disposal efficency but only kicked 20 metres

I'm keen.

Seems like the best chance for him to succeed is to stay in SA.

My guess is Port will snap him up. They have 5 lowish picks before our pick 77 and they will surely need a couple mature age types?

Gotta keep dem Reserves strong for another SANFL premiership tilt.

AFL Draft Central's Matt Balmer's [Bishop] Final Draft Rankings for 2017.
Matt has 7 SA lads inside his top 50 including Jackson Edwards sneaking in at 50 which is around the mark I reckon.

Worpel getting tantalisingly close to 39 in that phantom. Would be great to get a hunter-clarke/Fogarty and Worpel with our first two picks

You're wrong.

He says draft rankings, not phantom draft.

A glaring omission Callum Coleman Jones which is surprising, can't see him not going in the 2nd round, if he's there at 39 surely we'd grab him with open arms. Could bring Harrison Petty and Oscar Claravino into the picture too with our tall defender depth only having Keath as back up. I'd really like us to go mid @ 12 and tall @ 39.
Bishop really doesn't rate CCJ, for one reason or another. Petty and Clavarino would be very nice pick-ups at 39, if they make it. I can't see how they do unfortunately, both I rate late 20s/early 30s.

My guy for our pick 39, Will Walker, rated at 40. He's a very nicely balanced player, and one that I reckon still has a lot of upside, as he improved at a rapid rate this year.

Sort of confused as to why Ballard is rated so highly, and Starcevich is quite low?

Upside with Ballard, yet to grow into his body, tall, quick, good skills, Starcevich AFL ready body wise.
Ballard reminds me a bit of Taylin Duman from last year. Upside is there, but extremely raw, so he'll take a lot of time if he makes it. I really rated Duman last year, but things aren't looking up for him at the moment.

Starcevich might be AFL ready in his body, but isn't in his tank. He's still got a fair bit of athletic development left in him. I'd be very happy if we got him at 39, too

Will Walker yes please

Nick Coffield, Charlie Constable, Noah Balta all look good prospects to me, all Vic metro.
Not sure what the thinking is this year in terms of position.
We may play it safe with SA lads but for so many years all I heard was best available player.

Sorry to intrude, but how likely do you guys think you are to take a KPD like Naughton or Brander with pick 12 to replace Lever with? Or is getting another mid a higher priority?

A lot of us believe getting a mid is of highest priority, but my gut feeling is that, if he’s available, we consider Naughton

Dustin Martin 1st for Turnovers in the AFL.
Dustin Martin 1st for Clangers in the AFL.

Being attacking comes at some cost though.

Yes however however this is where the DE stat is a bit skewed, it doesn't factor in the pressure and contest variable

Martin on many occasions does dispose of the ball with 1,2 or even 3 players all over him

No one knows best talent it's a guess percentages play in your favour

But the last two years have shown there is a certain amount of hype over certain groups media driven of course, but everyone is influenced by the media

Playing it safe is that why we didn't go Burton Hayward or graham all SA talent

Personally I’d be disappointed if we went with a KPD at 12, our midfield still needs more depth and you can usually get good value KPD later on in the draft anyway.

Playing it safe had nothing to do with why we didn't draft Hayward and Graham.

We thought that other players were better. Not safer. BETTER.

Whoever we pick will most likely not even debut until 2020 anyway. We've also already spent up on our midfield in recent times.

I'm leaning towards a key forward with 12, one of the SA defenders with 39 and either Edwards or best available with 77.

Like I said at this early stage we appear wrong so thoughts on better can be distorted

But for the life of me, I cant understand if the players are close in terms of ability why the hell wouldnt you look at the advantages and disadvantages of picking SA lads

Salaries- a Vic lad will be targeted by Vic clubs forcing his salary up restricting our salary cap if we retain him or basically falling out of the race for the player

Go Home factor to be close to family and friends

With AFL these days its becomng painfully clear with RFA FA and uncontracted and contracted players getting to their destination club quite easily , 99% of the time this needs to be factored into a decision when drafting

If we drop away this year, could the decision of drafting Danger and Gunston then leaving us cost us a premiership, there is no answer because we dont know, but logic says it would have had an adverse affect

There will be occassions where the SA lad is miles off the ability of the one we pick, however if Fogarty is available at pick 12 we would be deadset dimwits to not grab him

Because for the life of you , you dont understand the decision made at the time. ''Burtons leg looks like its been through a car crash, the structural integrity may hold up for a few years but the constant workload may reduce its viability in 3-4 years'' ( paraphrased medical report as reported by most)

Graham, a player wins a flag in his first 5 games and suddenly he is a star? Lets wait and see ok

If Fogarty is gone - there ain't any SA players that are close to being worthy of pick 12 so it's a moot point

Hayward- still disappointed we didn't grab him but with fogarty likely gone there will be no Hayward type SA kids worthy of pick 12

Pick 12 has to be best available - more likely to be a mid than not but not necessarily

I wouldn't rule out Hayes at 204cm that can ruck and kick goals forward either
