Please explain the difference between Alex Spina and James Battersby to Mitch Crowden and Stefan Giro then?....
Absolutely No Difference ........none of them should have been picked, as history has demonstrated.

Where are they now, Alex Spina and James Battersby? .......my point proven

Possibilty for #39 ......Charlie Replacement ?

Club Subiaco/Rover FC (Geraldton)

Height 184cm

Weight 76kg

Position Small Forward

Draft Range: 3rd Round

IN SHORT
  • Excitement Machine: Regularly produces moments of magic on the field
  • Elite Mark: He won the 2017 WAFL Mark of the Year
  • Bernie Naylor Medallist: Booted 68 goals to take out the Bernie Naylor Medal
WHY PICK HIM?
Ryan is a proven goalkicker, having booted 113 goals from 39 games the past two seasons at WAFL League level. This is an average of nearly three goals per game – an elite performance by a small forward.

He is also only 21-years-old, so he is a raw prospect who has enormous potential at the top level. He often creates moments of magic in the forward half due to his speed, skill and football intelligence – attributes that are very hard to come by.

His athleticism is elite, as is his ability to take incredible marks. He won the 2017 WAFL mark of the year, but what is more impressive is that he contributed four of the five finalists.
Problem is that his endurance is crap. The fact that it is still crap after working very hard to get drafted is a decent red flag, IMO

Reckon he'll go between 39 and 77

21 YO ......had low work effort, which can be explained as immaturity .....Cameron had average endurance ......why do we say when we're pumping a player up, that endurance can be worked on (Fogarty) ......yet we use it as a negative player attribute when it suits

Because Fogarty's 18. He's got time. Ryan's obviously worked hard on it, and it is still low. If Ryan was 18, we'd definitely be saying 'he can work on that'.

That said, Barry's definitely worked on his between now and when he left Melbourne

I guess I just wouldn't consider Ryan with 39, I would at 77 (but he'll be gone by then IMO)

I'd consider both @39 .......3 years age diff is not much to "label" a player .....sometimes when you're young & immature, it takes a while for a player to "get it" .....sometimes they never do get it

What a load of bullshit, the fact is Hamish and the recruiting team did pick them., but of course you jump on their failures and want to forget about their successes.

As for your assessment of Mitch Crowden in particular I call bullshit again, the kid is an athletic beast as well as a good natural footballer. In fact both he and Giro are have 1st class athletic profiles as well as being very good natural footballers. For all the Dom Barry fantasies about his speed Crowden beat his time and Giro equalled it in the 20m Sprint.

In every other athletic test they both pantsed him in all bar the agility test yet both still made the leader board in that discipline as well. Both lad's athleticism stacks up very well with the top end in the National Combine and would put them in the top 10% in most disciplines at the National Combine.
Bicks you have to stop with your draft analysis on what players are doing in their 18th year ......it's always been about projecting a players potential development

You're making the same error with Crowden as was made by many supporters looking at Battersby in his 18th year ......sometimes players have peaked in their development by 18

looking at a players athletic results does not mean they'll be good AFL players, so stop quoting them as if they support your view of what constitutes a good player ......it's just one piece of the puzzle

On Crowden/Giro - I'd be happy if we rookied either of them too, Crowden in particular due to his all-round athletic profile. I don't think he'll ever become a top line AFL midfielder due to his lack of height, but you don't need to become that to be called a 'success' at pick 77-rookie. He's got that all round package that'd put him in good stead. He's worth a punt. Giro I'm less sure about, I've gone cool on him as the year's gone on, but he's got some good footy traits.

Speed is one thing, having the confidence and willingness to use it is another. Barry would likely be ready to come in and use his X-Factor run and carry immediately, which I doubt Giro and Crowden would be able to do

Dom Barry = Poor man's Jarman Impey, can run rooly, rooly fast but...;)
Can’t categorically say he’s a ‘poor man’s’ version of Impey until he gets into the system. Only one game under 15 disposals in the SANFL suggests he’s worthy of a better tag than that

He's worth a go, I reckon

Not with me he's not, Impey>>>>Barry

The last time we went for one of these blokes that run really fast in Wilson it didn't go so well.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this I'm afraid.
Obviously you can't say he's categorically better either, it's all an unknown, but there's tools there to work with

Gotta disagree somewhere ;)

Battersby is a pretty good player and has a couple of SANFL premierships to show, but it was his speed at the elite level that may have been the biggest hurdle

Having purchased Inside Football draft class edition I have become totally confused with so many low in draft come rookie nominations in there ,especially sincenwe have a few picks after 39 into rookie draft.
So wondered if Bicks or Danger in Texas etc could give me some feedback re who might be there worthwhile and who we might be interested in picks from 77 through to rookie picks.
Also who you think might be 39 pick, and do you think like me we should get 1 KPP player or intercept defender type along with 1 quality mid.
Would it be possible to get a quality tall at 39.
Appreciate you feedback guys

I think CCJ would be good at 39, or perhaps one of the ready-made WA mids?
