Just interested in what any of you think about potentially drafting Lachlan Murphy in the rookie draft? In my opinion I see us using 3 rookie drafts picks, one on Ellis Yolmen, one of Edwards if available and one on someone else, there is at least one chance for Murphy to be added as a rookie, two if Edwards goes national.
This bloke can play, still only 18 years old as he is born in December, top 5 in our SANFL b&f and had a better season than every single player we drafted last year. And he has come back to training this week in great condition and done well in the 2km trial. Must be considered
Jack is Back and I have been advocating taking Lachie Murphy either with a late pick or rookie pick for months, we both see a lot of Rory Laird in the lad and he surely deserves a shot at the AFL. I saw him play a few TAC games the year before last and he always impressed me with his good speed , acceleration, hardness and good ball use playing mainly as a midfielder, no surprise when he won his TAC team the Northern Knights B & F that year.

Problem might be other clubs might have liked what they saw in the SANFL too.

Yeah you’d have to think Murphy would be a shoe in for the rookie draft. Geez I hope Edwards gets there though...

Wasn’t there a final cut off day for clubs to nominate F/S for the main draft?.. a couple of days prior to the date of the draft?..

Currently, we have only 2 rookies - Jarman and Hunter. Isn't there a strong chance we could even go with 6 rookies altogether. Our current list has 36, so if we had 6 rookies that would take us to 42 in which case we would only be using picks 12 and 39 and passing on 77. Does anybody else see this happening? That would give an extra $80k to throw at Sloane or Matt Crouch straight off the bat. We could potentially offer that player $80k for each year of his new contract if we decided to persist with this strategy. We can still play any of the rookies as if they were on the main list, so the cost would be giving up a player rated at 77 in favour of a more speculative player through the rookie draft.

If Edwards gets through we would likely get him with our last pick of the rookie draft. CEY is unlikely to be taken by another club and so we could take him with our second to last pick. This would leave us with 2 "live" picks in the rookie draft.

I think there’s a fair chance we will look to go in with a main list of 38 players and then take a rookie list of 5 or 6 into the season. As mentioned, rookies can now play anytime, don’t need free spots on the main list, they also only attract 1 year contracts and with a supposed bumper draft next year we may want as many spots available as possible. Last year we also had 2x cat B rookies, meaning with Jarman, Hunter and Beech we had 5 playing rookies anyway, hence why we were happy to pass on a rookie spot and also carry Sam Shaw on the list too.

Having said that, it wouldn’t surprise again if there were a slider through to our pick 75 that we end up taking, like Davis last year.

Isn't it possible that slider might also slide all the way to our first rookie pick? :) Given we have our two best players out of contract this year, I think we need every dollar we can get.

I'm disappointed with you Bicks. I have been pumping LM's tyres for ages. He is one player I definitely want on the RL. Talented little bugga.

If available at our first selection of the rookie draft, who be better out of Lachie Murphie or Hamish Brayshaw? Is the middle child so much worse than his two first rounder brothers?

Pretty close tbh, but I would probably go Murphy, as he gives us depth in the small back men department and is tracking at a higher level by position imo

So Hamish isn't going to be the next Matt Crouch?
Not even close on what I've seen of Hamish Brayshaw the last 2 years of TAC, you also realise Hamish played as an over ager this year, essentially a 19 year old playing against 17 year olds. Has no real weapons that make him stand out from the crowd.

I very much doubt that he could become anything more than B grade

I see. Not even worth a late rookie selection if still available? Murphy, Brayshaw, CEY, Edwards?

I'd take him over CEY, but CEY looks a certainty.
Purely because I think CEY won't make it after this many years in the system

I think we take the best remaining SA kid with our first rookie pick, then the next three are Murphy, CEY and Edwards.

Did anybody( footy journos/posters) have us selecting galluci last year?
Twomey had us taking him"
Callum Twomey s 2016 Phantom Draft AFL.com.au.png

But he also had West Coast taking Berry with the pick ahead of us, and Port taking Haywood with SP-P falling to the Saints at 25...

Foxsports had:
PICK 15: ADELAIDE — WILL BRODIE
https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/af...s/news-story/6ca3a4b7d10331c3a6d9ed5c9222a48e

Brett Anderson had
15. Adelaide
Will HAYWARD

Ht: 184.7cm | Wt: 76.6kg | Medium Forward | North Adelaide
This may depend on what the Eagles do. Hayward, Berry and even Cedric Cox will come into consideration. Crows could also bid for Cumming.

And he had Gallucci going to Essendon at 21
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2016/11/23/anderson-final-2016-afl-mock-draft/

The Roar had:
15. ADEL – Will Hayward
And they had SP-P going at 21 and Gallucci at 30!
http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/11/20/2016-mock-draft-final-edition/

Knightmare went with:
Pick 13: Adelaide
Who they'll pick: Daniel Venables

He also had Gallucci going at 20 and Sharenberg at 29!
http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/18053132/knightmare-updated-2016-afl-phantom-draft

Emma Quayle (now with GWS, so there won't be a mock draft this year) had:
16 ADELAIDE
WILL HAYWARD
(185cm, 77kg. North Adelaide)
Bouncy, energetic half-forward who can kick a lot of goals.
The rationale: He's a bargain at this point for Adelaide, who could do with adding to their midfield but might see Hayward playing a part down the track in there for them anyway.
The complication: The Crows could bid for Isaac Cumming here, if Sydney haven't. Other chances are Jarrod Berry, Jordan Gallucci, Jy Simpkin and Cedric Cox as well as Will Brodie, in the unlikely event he gets this far.

She had Gallucci going to Brisbane at 25 and SP-P to the Saints at 25..

So yeah pinch of salt all round

I actually think CEY is not done yet. Dont think he will ever be a top player, but I wouldnt be surprised if he gets himself ahead of Thor or Hampton at some stage, maybe due to injuries. There is a lot to like about CEY. But I do fear that if he does get a run then we will be in trouble because a lot of things would have to go wrong for us for him to get a call up to the 1s.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Snoop Dog (Phantom Drafter)'s mail is that DFog is likely to get to us at #12.
