I think that picks 7-9 will shape who we are after at pick 10 big time. It is even possible that Rayner could be taken in the first 2 picks depending on the clubs trusting that he would not rack off after his contract is up. I actually hope that we take Dow ahead of him as we need more pace and run in the middle of the ground imo. Brayshaw is moving up the charts faster than a Beatles single so he may do a McGrath/Taranto from last year with the Lions a possibility.......once again the interstate teams just have to trust the interviews they had with these kids as to whether they hang around or not. Dow is not keen to move interstate apparently even though the Lions like him. Like you said I think Freo take Naughton pick 5 and Col takes Brander or Balta with 6, but after that the Saints and the WB are a toss up, although you would think the Saints pick 8 is likely to be a KPD as they are quite thin down there. Would love any of D.Fogarty/Bonar or Coffield to be available at pick 10, especially if we take Dow with him being a smaller mid..........Not that keen on Constable with us already having Crippa and Kennedy as strong but slower types in the middle. Fogarty/Bonar can both play forward and Coffield as a running Def/Mid as he has plenty of toe. I have never been that keen on "best available" policy because you can end up with a list full of same types..........as in what we had during the Ratten/Wayne Hughes period........we had too many flankers and not a good balance at all.

Surely Saints take a KPD and a silky MID (Josh Kelly type) with picks 7/8.

They have plenty of "grunt" players already - they need class in the middle and are desperate for a young KPD.

I would be surprised if they didn't do this.

Soz if this has been asked...I'm a late arrival...

Any chance of us taking Brander at 10?

If so...what do you think?
If Brander slips through, that will give us one extra tall forward who can reportedly play key defence too with McKay, Charlie and Jack. Casboult to be pushed out by McKay ... we will get one if not 2 forwards next year ... so potentially we have some very handy trade bait out of that group in a couple of years time. Allows us to move Rowe and White on quickly and to stop relying on Casboult.

Do you know his work?
Brander? Not apart from reviews I have read from others.

But as per my previous post, could be a very shrewd, strategic acquisition. Later on in Season 2018, Charlie pushes up into mainly midfield rotations or up to the wing. Our forward line could be:

Jack. Brander. Pickett.

Wright. McKay. Resting midfielder (Fisher / Murphy / Kennedy / Lang / Charlie)

IMO I can't see this type of situation happening for a couple of years or unless SOS rates him miles above anyone else. Currently with our lack of quality midfield depth I think that we will target a hybrid fwd/mid and a pure mid. As you say we will be bringing in 1 or 2 kpf next year.

How bad would the melts be if we chose 2 of Naughton/Balta/Brander with 3 & 10?

a. Really bad
b. Like... REEAAALLLLYY bad
c. thy will roll over in his grave, bad

Fair draft estimate that one.

Clark looks like quality. Moves similarly to Williamson.

If we continue with our drafting of players with elite foot skills, he could be the one.

It's still wide open. I'm really enjoying the evenness of the top 15 or so players and the fact we are getting two of them.

This draft is no bust. Plenty of 200 gamers in there with our first three picks.

Yeah Clark looks like a beauty to me too, just seems to tick all the boxes..

Good size, will fill out nicely - √
Good pace - √
Great kick off both sides - √
Balanced mid, inside/outside - √
Goes in hard - √
Courageous - √

I think that there may be others on the board with more x-factor like Bonar and the Fog (sounds like a cool band name) but not sure at this stage of our rebuild that we'd be willing to take such a risk on either.

Yeh, the more I watch of Hunter Clark, the more I think he'd be a dominant wingman at AFL level. Quick, a really good kick on both sides, productive, courageous... Ultra-versatile, and a good size. He also has great inside ability and tackling pressure.

Also has the best name in the draft pool with stiff competition from Bonar.

How would Bolton feel?
Not sure he wanted another back-man last year when SOS read out Macreadie and then on top of that, we had the revelation......Jones.
He's probably finding it hard enough trying to make sense of all the talls we have already.

You can't just keep topping up on similar types and as things stand, I think we already have more talls than any other club in the league.

What I gathered about Clark was that he wasn't the quickest guy but just 'glided' across the ground and was a good runner. I guess dominant wingmen don't have to be the quickest though.

Oh, don't worry - I agree. Was totally tongue in cheek. Will not happen.

Knows how to make use of the pace he does have, and can pick the ball up going full-tilt.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him spend quite a bit of time in the midfield as he develops. Has a nice side-step and blind turn, which he uses to full effect.

Is the type I could see playing early and adapting to our style, surprising a few in his debut year. Might have to bide his time on the fringes of the midfield but would outgrow Boek fairly quickly I feel.

I've been on the Stephenson/Brayshaw/Coffield bandwagon but I am really starting to warm to the idea of taking Hunter Clark at this pick.

Looks to be a really nice midfield prospect who has plenty going for him -

- Hybrid mid
- Dual sided
- Good skills
- Goal kicker

Reminds me of a young Rory Sloane.
