After what he has done the last two years I have total faith in SOS.
Reality is we need a quality HBF also, so it is not just about mids. And while we are at it we also could do with another young tall fwd and a young small fwd.
And a ruck.
Basically we still have needs all over the place.
If a skillful rebounding HBF is seen to be the best talent at 10 then so be it.
Yes we have lots of defenders but not so many skilled running HBFs.
Doc is injured and the plan may well be for him to go into the middle in the future.
Simmo is near the end.
Byrne has had so many injuries and missed so much footy he is no longer anything close to a sure bet.
Then there's some other defenders who are talls not rebounding mid size BFs.
Then what you're left with is Willo and Plow who is 192cm or thereabouts, so I can see the logic in getting another mid size HBF.

Moore at 30 is an interesting link. I’m surprised we haven’t been linked to Higgins more at 10 if we are prepared to take Moore (given they share similar weaknesses). Maybe we don’t see much difference between the two?

Wow, they have no idea.
4 main last couple of days Phantoms now. Twomey, Anderson, Balmer and Fox Sports.
2 Ed Richards, 1 LOB and 1 Coffield. All outside running great left foot kicks. I think they know, or are being told by other recruiters, what Carlton want.
Bolton and Silvagni DO want a player like this. They have both stated it before. Whether they want one of THESE 3 players, we don't know yet. But it may be wise for us to start believing it is a big chance and park our own biases.
Ball movement is our next stage after all.

Carlton have ruled out Bonar and Stephenson according to Jake Niall.

Liked the update, but dont like the content too much!
Certainly moves like him.Higgins doesn't seem to be linked to us anywhere at 10. I'm still trying to work out how good he will be but the more I wacth the more I see Zorko.

Seems more like we don't rate Bonar, and are left raffling from the same type of player in O'Brien, Richards and L.Fogarty.

Injury aside, do you rate bonar higher than the other 3?
I really don't want Es Richards, and I'm not sold on O'Brien.
Pace is nice and elite kicking skills useful, but players have to be able to win contested ball too. That's what has made Kade Simpson such a great wing/half back, same goes for others in the same mould like Hodge etc.
As much as we need outside run to support Cripps/Kennedy etc, I'd rather get that a but later in the draft and take a contested ballwinnder here - Higgins. Or just hope for a slider, I guess

Sounds like we're not into Bonar BECAUSE he's not that type of player. Also hasn't been any mention of Higgins who has consistently been touted around pick 10 but is seen as a small forward at AFL level.
In fact before mail came through we were interested in Richards and O'Brien at 10 most phantoms had them in the mid-to-late teens.

Yes, because of his mix of attributes. They are all better kicks than him, but I don't see that as a technique issue and thus something he can improve on.
If you're rating them for kicking ability, O'Brien is the standout, but I would make a strong argument for L.Fogarty after that, particularly when delivering into the F50. Richards is adventurous, but I don't think his ability to hit the ball flat is really at the same standard as the other 3.
The best thing about 6'2"+ mids that can run is that generally they don't need to weave around traffic to get the job done, they can just shrug the arm tackles and break the game open for your side. Bonar has the athletic tools to take either option, and I see that as something that will really unsettle the opposition.
We certainly don't have enough tall mids on our list to overlook him in favour of an outside-leaning type, especially given the way he can dash into open space.
Richards will be fine winning his share of contested ball, don't worry about that. LOB is more of Gaff/Hill style wingman and I also have concerns.

I would prefer Ed Richards to LOB but I've been a fan of Lachie since last year so I would be happy with his selection as well. We lack outside run more than most people think.
LDU a chance at 3 eh. I called this a while ago. Good friends with Weiters and loves his surfing just like many of our boys. Could be a little bit of SOS magic.
