2017 Draft - Pick 30

Dow, O’Brien/Richards, and then Constable at 30 would be a great mix. They did say we were the only team not to visit him at home but maybe I shouldn’t read too much into that.

We visited him at a car wash instead?

This may sound a little far fetched but anyway.
With young draftees, wouldn’t it be good to take parents DNA to have a better understanding of if they can put on muscle in the gym

For instance sparrow and Simpson spring to mind that they’re sticks who just had/have amazing football ability and footy IQ

I know it’s just one aspect but would be interesting nonetheless less

I know nothing about the draft but keen to know the opinion of those with some sort of clue.
Anyone think we can get the ruckman Sam Hayes with this pick? I'd be keen to get a young ruck into the club & his name has been thrown up on mock drafts anywhere from pick 15 - 35. Obviously depends on who else is available.

It’s a chance, most mocks/phantom drafts I’ve seen had him somewhere in the mid 20’s.

Personally if he’s there for us at pick 30 I think you have to take him, we need to start developing the next generation soon because ruckman take so long to mature

I think it’s a 2% chance though

But he clearly knows where to run. I like the comments that he plays like a much bigger version of Sam Mitchell

So his kicking is that good on both feet u have no idea which is his preferred?

Sam Mitchell wasn’t a snail either, he could get around the park reasonably well when younger just had short legs.

If it was he would not be drafted at #30 with his size.

IMO Seems to be better inside where as Mitchell was great outside.

But if he racks up high numbers and disposes effectively then he definitely has a place in AFL

Little chance of guessing who we'll take at #30, but maybe a chance of guessing who we won't

It won't be a KPD.
It won't be a ruckman.
KPF? Doubt there would be much of value here.
We would have likely taken our best mids at #3 and possibly #10

Left with a lively small/mid-sized forward or a pacy small/mid-sized back-man. Just have to work it out from there then. :)

Pick 30: Tom De Koning

Sorrys HARKER had too :)

Still absolutely love your work though ;)

It doesnt matter who is picked. Put them in Navy Blue with a CFC and they are transformed....They could put all the names in a hat and SOS will pull out a beauty......:p

I think DeKoning will be a good player and his recruitment was good timing to coincide with his development and the decline/retirement of Kreuzer and the other senior rucks. If we can have a guy who can ruck but also play footy and impact in the forward line like he is looking like then we have a really good player on our hands. Think this will end up being a really good and well thought out pick by us.

Will be difficult for him to get games this season with Kreuzer and Phillips and to a lesser extent Lobbe as he's still developing his body but if this comes on well I can see him playing a some games. I hope people don't look at him not playing AFL this season as a failure because this is normal for big guys and to be hones he's probably ahead of most. Really liked his game in the first VFL practice match, thought he was equal BOG.

I think if Spargo was still on the board, SOS would have called his name out, but pipped by 1 pick

Rated the kid as a late 1st, really surprised he slid, but did have an injury in his final junior year

Will be a beauty

On TDK, we just need to be patient, has all the qualities for a modern day tall

I love everything about TDK's game, he's built for the modern AFL.
Russell turned Hale and to a lesser extent Ceglar into competent ruckmen/forwards, will be interesting to see how he manages with TDK.

That's a fair point.

I'm happy with McKay in the ruck and he's done/doing better than I thought he may.
DeKoning is being primed as a Ruck-man first and forward second, which makes for an ideal balance for us, should it pay off.

I do like watching Tom. Doesn't leave much behind on the ground and seems to relish every moment on it.

Is he? Not sure about that

I was all for Worpel and didn't even have TDK on my radar. Very happy though. TDK is improving all the time and looks very good.

TDK looks like a gem.

I would have gone:

Pick 3: Paddy Dow (LDU if gone)
Pick 10: Darcy Fogarty (if we were looking for a running player, Zac Bailey at this pick)
Pick 30: James Worpel
