I seriously like Worpel. His kicking is not as bad as made out. Is tough as nails. I would love a draft of Dow, Higgins or Bonar & Worpel.
Was going to ask the draft watchers if Worpel would be an option here? Has Matt Crouch written all over him.

Tim Kelly
Jackson Ross
Ryley Stoddart

We've been linked to all of the above, so don't be surprised should we take one at this pick.

Worpel
Garner
Spargo
Walker

From limited viewing the above players would be of interest to me at 30.

Spargo would be a steal at 30 and would not pass him up. I know he has had some minir injuries but still rate him as a latish 1st. Also rate Garner as a late 1st

I just can't see SOS selecting Worpel, his disposal is poor

Agree about Worpel. This disposal seems to get worse and worse when he isn't even playing. Sort of like Higgins being really slow and Cerra being relatively slow. They might not be express but they are hardly running in treacle.

Worpel is a leader and a ball winner. I'd like him at #30.

Worpel could be a better version of Ed Curnow.

Hoping Dylan Moore is still available at 30 , his running ability is likened to Scully and in my opinion we could really do with some more tireless 2way workers in the midfield.

Moore would be a good get, but are we too small if he and Fisher are in the same side?

Has to be Dylan Moore for me, he's the type of player that can do anything on the ground with his only downfall really being his height. Had an absolute stellar year at APS level as well as showing a bit in the TAC Cup and the U18 Championships. Believe he also was a late addition to an 'elite environment' joining Eastern in mid-2016.

Others who I'd like to be still available at #30 are Gryan Miers who could fill a void as a small forward in the future as well as Matthew Ling who could be that dashing half-back to replace Simpson (of course we're linked to Coffield at #10 which might nullify this selection) or a wingmen at AFL level.

Using worpel as an example/proxy here, let's say he is a poor (but not terrible) kick.

You know he is very good in tight, clearances, tackles etc.

Let's say a somewhat better Mitch Robinson (on field).

If he was a cleaner player, he'd be a top 10 pick, easily. He's not, so he's 15-35. Or do you say that he's not a great kick, we wouldn't want him full stop?

I kinda feel that IF worpel was available at 30 and SOS overlooked him, he wouldn't use 73 on him either or even pick him up as a rookie (not that he'd get there).

You don't want to overplay a guy's weakness and worpel will likely be a much more impactful player than late ND or rookie picks, but at some point you'd disregard a player no matter how late he slides? If a player doesn't fit what you want, no price is too cheap to pass up...

My understanding from what I've heard from draft analysts that are far more knowledgeable then myself is that Worpel's game doesn't necessarily translate well to AFL level from a recruiter's perspective. With the noted kicking deficiency which would have to be rectified, the way Worpel dominates U18 games in the middle is due to being just a more mature size. Also his speed is quite below average for an AFL midfielder. With that all said, haven't heard anything other than praise for the kid about his attitude and work ethic as well as his onfield leadership. Seems the sort've guy you'd like to have around the club and would try to get the best out of himself. Certainly wouldn't be opposed to giving him a shot with a late pick.

Garner would be good at 30. I have him slotted at 19 for Gold Coasts pick. I am hoping that they finally start drafting a touch of character above a touch of talent. I feel that should be a precedence until they establish themselves as a Club first and foremost. But Scotty Clayton is still there so flashy talent it will probably be.

I wanted them to Pick Jarrod Berry at 9 last year for the same reason.

Dylan Moore pls. Stoddard, Worpel, Miers, Spargo etc could also be thereabouts.

Tim Kelly might be gone but SOS would have to consider a mature mid after Gibbs' departure. Brett Anderson suggested Eagles would take him in the 20s

Love Moore's running and defensive work. Reminds me of peak Dahlhaus
I thought Kelly would likely be lost to us when W.C. landed two picks in the second round off G.C........they will snaffle him before our pick 30 I would imagine........pity because SOS had him teed up to join us I heard......

Anyone else feel weird sitting around on an internet forum talking about 17 year olds we'd like to pick up?

Jake Stringer board

What's the consensus on Charlie Ballard?

Seems to be a very SOS like player for mine.

Draft Central's Matt Ballmer:

#27 Charlie Ballard

Tall Utility/Outside Midfielder (Sturt/South Australia)
23/07/1999 | 195.5cm | 82.3kg
Previous ranking: N/A

Scouting notes: Tall utility who has been utilised at either end for both school and at SANFL level. Ballard has also shown his ability to run well on the wing and is an effective kick on his right foot. Has plenty of scope for development and might fill out as a hybrid midfielder.

Last month: Ballard was lucky enough to win two premierships for the ‘Double Blues’ in two weeks, part of Sturt’s winning Under 18 and Reserves teams in the SANFL. In the Under 18 Grand Final, Ballard collected 21 disposals, three clearances and three inside 50s playing on the wing and was very efficient by foot. In the Reserves Grand Final, Ballard played up forward and finished the game with a goal from seven disposals. Had eight disposals and four rebound 50s on Grand Final day in the NAB AFL Under 18 All Stars clash. Ballard also tested well reasonably well at the NAB AFL Draft Combine and has plenty of development for whatever club drafts him.

Yes - one of Dylan’s junior coaches had to work pretty hard to convince Ranges to take him.

Petruccelle if he’s available for mine. Keen also on Jackson Ross. Zac Bailey is worth a look too. Any one of these will do just fine. Worpel - hard to know if he goes to the next level. Prefer the raw talent athlete type at this level in this draft.

Couldn't agree more, with Garner they would get talent and character

How bad is it actually? There are plenty of good players around who don't have great disposal.

If we prioritize ball use with our first two picks then I can see us being a little more lenient on that front at pick 30 if Worpel is deemed the best prospect available.

Jackson Ross is my first choice for pick 30, plays that 6th/high half forward role that can be tricky and also push up to the midfield/wing. From a tennis background, athletic with huge potential. Add 10-15kg long term and he could be anything.

Roughly averages 20 disposals and 2 goals per game for Eastern & Haileybury. Add mids at pick 3 & 10 and we are well on our way for 2020 & beyond.

Have the stats at home, happy to post them later, but you just have to watch full games to see that he does butcher the ball on regular occasions. Unfortunately I think I am tougher than most when rating disposal and you just have to review game day posts and see the frustration of many posters when it comes to the likes of Kerriage, who I rate better than Worpel when disposing the ball by foot or hand. Having said I that, I do admire his work-rate, tackling, toughness and willingness to stay involved. If we are looking at the type of player Worpel is, I believe there are better options, such as Spargo(if he lasts), North or Hayden
