2017 Draft - Pick 30

Jackson Ross is someone I'm really warming to at this pick.

There may be safer options available on draft night but if we're confident we've nailed 3 and 10 we may be tempted to take a bit of a risk on Jackson here.

We've been linked to him and having crossed over from tennis just a couple of years ago I think the scope for development in his game is huge.

There's a lot to like about his game already though (endurance, versatility, skills, goal sense) and I think after a few years in a professional AFL environment he could develop into a genuine match winner.

I think we should be looking at Nathan Kruger as their inside midfielder @30 as in Snoop Dog's summary
the ]''South Adelaide played a very small forward line for most of the season, which meant Kreuger was often on a flank, the wing, in the middle, or down back. He played a "Mr Fix-it" type role which did little to help his stock but saw the Panthers have a very good season, until the finals.

I actually see his best position as an inside midfielder. He has an elite first two steps and his wing-span is enormous, meaning he can get to the ball very quickly and dispose to an outside player. I just don't think he has the strength or attributes to play as a tall forward. The package below is very interesting. Souths were well on top in this game, but I thought Kreuger showed a glimpse of his athletic ability as an inside midfielder- and his tackling is also very good.''

Strong talk from the media circles that Balta will probably be available at #30... do we look at him?

A few weeks ago I would have said absolutely. I was even wanting him at #10. Hearing about some commitment issues which is a concern.

So did my grandma
She's very impressive.

I am in the negative on this one. Reportedly super talented, but lacking in game sense/smarts. With our proliferation of talls,
where would he fit?
Defence, for sure, but it allows us to jettison Rowe and ASOS at the end of 2018 without any fear.

His attitude/antics seems to be the issue.

Have never really rated him, despite being blessed with good speed, think he has poor reaction time and loses his feet far too often. If there is now talk of poor professionalism and or character, think that would be enough evidence to avoid him

If we did go for a big at 30 I'd go for Callum Coleman-Jones.

Is a ruck/forward but everything I read and the few highlights say he is a contested marking beast. With no real young rucks if we were to contend in say 2020 I'd want us to start developing a long term Ruck now.

IMHO this is not a priority.

6 finals teams this year had ruckmen they traded in for mostly R2 picks or worse.

Why speculate a R2 pick now and spend 5 years developing a player when we can cherry pick a "ready to go" ruck in 4 years time for a R2 pick?

Makes no sense to me - I'd rather keep chasing good mids/HBF at pick 30.

Indeed. We rookie’d Jacobs, upgraded him (together with Joseph) and traded him to the Crows ...
How did Sydney get Nankervis ? Was 2013 Draft 2nd round selection at Pick # 35.

Was there a rumour we were looking into Xerri late in the draft / rookie draft?

I like the look of Angus Schumacher, Kyron Hayden and Jackson Ross.

Schumacher and Ross have the kicking skills we so desperately lack whilst Hayden has a touch of dare I say it, Cripps?

If I knew how, I would attach the video links but I'm not that tech savvy :-(
