I really hope you're not trying to convince people of your agenda who have watched full games with only highlights packages... I also hope you aren't saying Buckenara is a great judge of talent. Isn't he the one that rated Kieren Collins no. 2 in his draft class? Is he not also an ex-recruiter? Probably a good reason for that.
All I said was that I'd take Buckenaras view of Fogarty's kicking skills over Gollo's... complementes with what I saw in highlights pkg.. he is an elite kick.. its pretty clear to see.

Its all a moot point anyway... only time will prove whether my player preferences are better or not...

Might interest you to check out a phantom draft from a few years ago, see how some of the top 30 are no longer playing, some massively overrated and a few underrated.

Grain of salt & all that.

I've got another grain of salt. When trying to evaluate how well selections have gone from past drafts, I suspect that a lot of the high picks get gifted games as clubs are often desperate to vindicate their choices.

Your take on Fogarty, Brander & Higgins will be off the mark... and I am sure Dal will be very keen.. add Bonar to that list and one of these 4 will be our Pick 9.

You're setting yourself up for a fall RD. There's a high probability we won't select one of the players you insist will be ours...because Dalrymple.

What are you basing all your claims on ? Have you actually seen any of the potential draftees play live ?

Your description of Higgins isn't even close to the mark but insist he's a crumbing fwd because of one goal he snapped in some footage you've seen online.
You also claim Fogarty to have elite skills because of a handful of possessions you've seen....online. And plus Buckenara said so. " will to win" and " pummell opponents " ???? Really ????

Also, Gollo watches a fair bit of most draftees live each year and is pretty switched on in this area. He doesn't base his claims on 1 min highlight packages and second hand info from " draft experts ".

One of the four players you've mentioned may well be taken at Pick 9. It'd likely only happen though if we ****ed up and read out the wrong player number from the trade table.
That's the only way I see us taking the players you mention.

Settle down.. same team...

Ive seen thousands of games and rate myself as a pretty astute judge... afterall I was disappointed we took Bont instead of Aish a few years back [emoji6]

In terms of outcome here.. we simply have to wait and see...

Happy to eat humble pie if Im wrong...
but in the meantime I'll take my opinion on some clips rather than someone who supposedly watches it live yet gets it wrong..

Regarding Higgins.. never said he was pure crumbing fwd.. merely challenged notion he is unsuitable when he can clearly complement our tall spine..and has crumbing as string to his bow..

Ive seen many on here rank Constable as best at 9... even Murphy..

Can almost understand why some rate Coffield highly.. I merely believe that Bonar, Fogarty and Brander are better prospects..

We'll see draft night what Dal thinks..

Either way.. happy with whatever he chooses as there is plenty to work with in top 16 this year... contrary to what 'experts' say..

I agree...but maybe tone it down a notch? It's only an opinion he's expressing.

With picks 9 & 16 technically 50 % of the top 16 choices are gone so
in reality we are a slave to what happens above us in terms of a
potential slider. I have seen multiple names linked to teams above us
with lots of good reasons for the picks going there. If you took two
guys outside pick twenty at random lets call them Houlahan and
Miers for example then 9 & 16 are just numbers if these guys turn
into good footballers.

What needs to be toned down ? Just calling RD out over questionable claims.

I think we need to use a bit of common sense in threads like this one when on one hand we have clearly knowledgeable posters who bring a lot to the discussion and on the other we have some who lack a little respect with slightly patronising posts.

I agree, everyone is entitled to an opinion but it can wear thin when it's claimed to be gospel.

My take is the same but facing the the other way.. we'll find out very soon who is nearer the mark..

Cool. What does the winner get ? A gig on the Dogs recruitment team ?

I'm still interested to know why you think a small highlights clip is sufficient enough footage to judge a players ability more so than watching multiple full games of players over a large periods of time.

My last comments on a previous post was just a shit stir, so I don't think we can say for sure who the club will take at either pick. We can maybe predict who will be available, we can put together our Wishlist and players in order of ability.
What I find a little strange is you can outright say player X won't be selected by Dal at pick 9 on the back of a 90 sec highlights clip without knowing Dal personally or maybe a family member or well connected with the recruitment team.

Is that the case or are you only going on the 90 sec clips ?

And I also really have the feeling that the media/BF are really overating coffield. Based on this potential for him go do midfield in future. Obviously could be wrong. But there is a risk that he is only destined to just be a HBF, which is fine but not pick 9 fine!

It is absolutely pick 9 fine. I would trade pick 9 happily for a precision-kicking, tall, elite-speed, evasive, productive half-back/winger every day of the week, add to that the fact that he's a Dogs supporter which basically eradicates any possible wantaway factor.

If you picked Bob Murphy at pick 9 how would you feel? Rohan Smith? Corey Enright? Lindsay Gilbee? Sam Docherty? Andrew Mackie? Heath Shaw?

People may well be overrating him based on his ability to go into the midfield, but "just a HBF" doesn't necessarily mean he's not worth pick 9. I'd take an AA half back inside the top ten any day of the week, and if a club thinks he's good enough to get to that point, why wouldn't they take him there?

Stephenson brings plenty to our forward.
Strong hands, agile, quick turn of pace and he is unlike most other fwds in the AFL as can play tall and mid/small type roles deep inside 50 and higher up. He has also shown the potential mid he can be with late season midfield form.
A lot of oppo team recruiters would have to all drop there bundle for him to fall to us.

I don’t buy the notion that most people seem to lump us with going into this years draft. Oh, Boyd and Murphy retired, they need backs. Ummm, JJ, Biggs, Suckling, Williams, Crozier (reportedly set to play back), Lynch, Webb. I think we’re set for half back flankers. We need general forwards/small forwards and midfield class.

The year we took Howard at 15 he was literally the 14th player on our list, the 13 we ranked higher than him were all gone.

The only player that draft that got taken before Howard that we didn't rate was Kane Lucas
1- Tom Scully
2- Jack Trengove
3- Dustin Martin
4- Anthony Morabito
5- Ben Cunnington
6- Gary Rohan
7- Brad Sheppard
8- John Butcher
9- Andrew Moore
10- Jake Melksham
11- Jordan Gysberts
12- Kane Lucas
13- Daniel Talia
14- Lewis Jetta
15- Christian Howard :thumbsu:

Shortly After- Nat Fyfe, Mitch Duncan, and Jack Gunston.
