Where's the news on him having a heart condition?

On the Norf board someone mentioned it and it's been confirmed by a couple different people now. He's been taking medication for a while now by the sound of it and it hasn't really been affecting his performances.

Eagleton and Hayes are a couple names that have had good careers with a heart condition so he'll probably be fine.

Said to be rated a 3rd rounder and big danger of Go Home Factor. Wonder if Goodesy could work some magic with him? Might get lucky and we'd get at least 2 years of watching this

The WA clubs would be dumb as doorposts not to take this guy with a later pick. No GHF.

West Coke have picks 21, 26, 32, 37 & 69.
Freo have picks 42, 60 and 66.

I suspect West Coast will grab him with pick 37.

But if he is around at pick 82, I think we should draft him and work on a plan to set him up in Melbourne. Number 1, the money is good - doesn't a draftee earn a minimum of $150,000 a year for a 2 year contract? That is a good start. Second, get a nice house for him and his wife & kid really close to the Whitten Oval (e.g., 5-10 walk), West Footscray is a neat, family friendly area with shops, transport, kindergartens and great primary school choices. Third, get a close relative or two who is currently helping the young family to come over with them. Friends and family can be flown over regularly and stay within walking distance at the Plough Hotel Motel. It can be done. Nothing gained, nothing lost.

I'm sure others can build on the plan.

We could get a package together for Bevo, Granty and Gordon to implement.

Are you suggesting we use picks 9 or 16, because you don't make
plans with pick 82. I hope Tim Kelly and Liam Ryan both get a gig
at the West Australian clubs to give them the best chance at
having support of family around.

You are probably right. But, *sigh* that Ryan can play.

But I am enjoying the posts about realistic pick 82 prospects. Going to follow up on the leads now in the media.

Use both on him...I wanna be entertained. No hope at 82 and I'm sure it would have to be WA or Port as they have some many others with indigenous backgrounds.
Given we've done pretty well with choices the past few years let them use 16 for my own personal entertainment.:D

Josh Jaska is :D

Plays a lot like Morris, he does.

Smithson isn't.

Pick 82's. Jaska is interesting - a lanky 19yo jack-of-all-trades defender, needs to put on weight, Geelong Falcons footy factory, played every TAC game. McGannon: I am not sure about going for smokey forwards with pick 82 if they are similar to Lapinski and Greene, who we have put a season into. Smokey mids, well I suppose we would go for a speed machine who likes to run with the ball but needs to work on his disposal and other aspects of his game.

Look, I only suggested we use pick 16 for Ryan on one occasion and I have been rightly schooled already.

General point for the discussion on pick 82 prospects.

Pick 82 might be closer to pick 70 or even pick 60 when it comes down to genuine draft choices and passes and rookie promotions are left out. The change in the rules on playing rookies will make it even more interesting. It could promote more passes on late picks. A Carlton supporting mate told me that they are going to go 1 or 2 short on the list and use rookies.

It has already come in to pick 79 with the final draft order being released today

I'm obviously missing something here.

What's the benefit of not picking them up with your club's available picks in the ND? One possible reason I thought of was that the Rookie Draft might be down the track and things might change in the intervening time. But I see it is scheduled for Monday 27 November, only 3 days after the ND. So no benefit there.

The other is that some players might nominate for the RD who hadn't nominated for the ND. Would there be many of those? And if so, why?

In fact if rookies can be selected for the senior side without there being a LTI next year, why are there rookies at all now?

Clubs may prefer the one year rookie deal to the two year ND draftee deal for their speculative late picks.

I have been looking at the Draft Machine site, Wizard17 mentioned. The site has a big "smokey" list but also a sizeable 30-60 / 30-70 list. At first I thought. "Pick 82, none of the more interesting possibilities in this range would go that far." Then I thought about the live picks issue. 82 might not be that far back in the list on the night.

Yeah, that's a good point. Thanks.
Luke Goetz and Tristan Tweedie say hi. :(

Good point, some clubs may elect to go one or more short on the senior list because rookies don't require LTI to play. This could play into our hands because we must take 3 in the draft, the last being pick 82.

This is what my Carlton mate is saying. They have more list spots available than draft picks. They may choose to go DFA to plug a few gaps, don't bother with pick 73 (their last) and then use ready-to-go rookies rather than development projects to provide senior players when and if required.

Edit, I've checked the full listing of draft picks out and I think I can see what my friend is saying. The picks go to round 10 if required. Carlton have after 73, 113 and so it goes on to 167. But they will go rookies rather than 2 year deals on those really late picks.

Not schooling you, I was the one who mentioned him. I know my suggesting is daft but I want him just for the added buzz he'll give us.

Ryan takes hangers, he is fast and skillful on the ground. He would give us incredible buzz in the forward line if he was happy and focused in Melbourne - I take the points made by others on the go home risk factor, so he is probably not a goer and anyway, WCE with 37 and Fre with 42 should sort his destination out.

All this excitement on pick 16. Apart from Douglas it hasn't been a real happy hunting ground. May as well take the HUGE punt on Ryan just to keep me amused. Go on Dal....I dare ya
2002-2014 pick 16's. Didn't go more recent as unfair due to limited time in system.

Stephen Gilham
Josh Willoughby
Adam Pattison
Richard Douglas
Mitch Brown
Matthew Lobbe
Ryan Schoenmakers
Jasper McMillan-Pittard
Ben Jacobs
Tom Sheridan
Jackson Thurlow
Darcy Lang
Sam Durdin

Ewww that's a pretty uninspiring list

Who cares what other clubs have done before us, I wouldn't take a risk on a player who is likely to leave in 2 years inside the top 20 especially since when he does his value will have dropped significantly.
