WESTERN BULLDOGS
Draft picks: 9, 16, 79

DEPTH CHART

KEY DEFENDERS: Marcus Adams, Jackson Trengove, Zaine Cordy, Fletcher Roberts, Lewis Young, Kieran Collins

SMALL/MEDIUM DEFENDERS: Jason Johannisen, Easton Wood, Dale Morris, Shane Biggs, Matt Suckling, Hayden Crozier, Bailey Williams, Brad Lynch

MIDFIELDERS: Marcus Bontempelli, Jack Macrae, Luke Dahlhaus, Lachie Hunter, Caleb Daniel, Toby McLean, Mitch Wallis, Liam Picken, Tom Liberatore, Lin Jong, Patrick Lipinski

KEY FORWARDS: Tom Boyd, Jack Redpath, Josh Schache

SMALL/MEDIUM FORWARDS: Bailey Dale, Josh Dunkley, Lukas Webb, Tory Dickson, Clay Smith, Mitch Honeychurch, Fergus Greene

RUCKS: Jordan Roughead, Tim English, Tom Campbell, Nathan Mullenger-McHugh

They had their critics during the trade period but credit to the Bulldogs, who eventually procured pick 16 to offset the turbulent departure of Jake Stringer. They also landed Josh Schache – a No. 2 draft pick only two years ago – on the cheap as well as filling holes with Jackson Trengove and Hayden Crozier. Both of these players are versatile, which is in fitting with the Dogs' mantra under Luke Beveridge and it will be interesting to see what they do with the pair. With Bob Murphy and Matthew Boyd having retired, the Dogs have a bit of a hole at half-back. Some have them linked to Hunter Clark, who uses the ball well and has developed a midfield string to his bow, while there's considerable talk they are keen on Ed Richards, whose speed and skill are attractive to recruiters. The Dogs won a premiership 14 months ago with a relatively small forward line but, with Stringer gone, Tory Dickson coming to the end and Clay Smith struggling to recapture his form of last year's finals, they look a bit shallow in that area of the ground too. Jack Higgins has long been identified as a leading candidate for GWS at pick 11, but with other small forwards available for the Giants at later picks he could get through to the Dogs at pick 16. They have been considered as a possible early bidder for Richmond father-son nominee Patrick Naish, although that talk has cooled. Nathan Murphy would be another forward option, but if they don't take him at pick nine it looks likely they will get pipped for his services.

Just had a listen to the AFL Draft Central podcast that just came out and yet again the guy most strongly linked at pick 9 was our old mate Aaron Naughton :tired:

You're double counting though because Matt Balmer from AFL Draft Central is Bishop, who is the other one mainly saying it.

I know we have tried to develop him as an inside mid but he has looked best as a medium forward for mine. Great overhead mark and superb finisher.
I agree, I've actually been preaching that since before he was drafted. An excerpt from my pre-draft analysis of him:
While intrigued by his midfield game, I think Webb eventually settles on a forward flank. I’d like him to be a genuine centre-bounce presence but I’m not sure he’ll reach any semblance of consistency there, and more likely spends small rotational minutes through the middle every now and then. Up forward he provides a nice medium target, as well as being capable of drifting up the ground and delivering the ball really well.

I'd like to see us develop him there. With that said though, you can't really call him a small/medium forward at present. Since being at the club he has been developed as a half back, then a wingman, then an inside midfielder, while playing half back and high half-forward roles at AFL level. Bit odd to classify him as a forward right now.

The Naughton to Freo rumours have gone pretty cold (and weren't that strong to begin with I reckon) so I can't see that happening. Murphy to Collingwood persists but really hoping they like Naughton more. Brayshaw seems a top 5 lock at this point but Saints would cream if he was there at 7. Who knows though? Can't wait until those mail-heavy final phantoms start dropping so we actually start getting an accurate picture, there's always some surprises. I was just thinking L. Fogarty to us at 9 might have legs, considering he's coming to the draft.

Lachie Fogarty at 9? That would be pretty disappointing, there will be better players around then him at pick 9 surely.

A few clubs have reposted Twomey's phantom form guide for November on their websites. Interesting the picture they've chosen to accompany it; there's a couple of LDUs, a Cam Rayner, an Adam Cerra. Who did we go with on our website? Aaron Naughton.

Would rather a risk with Aaron Redhead than McLean
Unusual to see a 203 cm ruck run a 7.97 agility test at the WA
combine, could not see us land another ruck after English the
age demographic is a bit close.Hawthorn has a niece spread
with McEvoy 11/7/89, Ceglar 14/2/91 and Pittonet 3/6/96.

I didn't say I'd only seen highlights packages.

Like I've said again and again, I haven't seen a tonne of the crop this year so my opinion isn't overly valuable, but I've seen a bit of Murphy and that's not just limited to highlight reels, FWIW.

Apologies Dannnnnnnn, I assumed highlights is what you meant.

He does look a player though doesn't he ?
Also suits Dals preferred late bloomer type with his late season form and development spike.
Do we know if he has an invite to the draft ?

I would be totally fine with that. Obviously, if we passed on a Coffield or Stephenson for him, it would be a little disappointing, but I would be as comfortable with us taking him at 9 as I would us taking Bonar or Murphy. So much all-round talent and his workrate and athletic capabilities are really, really good.

Another theory I'm working on is that this Naughton talk is all an elaborate misdirection to make sure we're relieved and happy with whoever we take.

I really need the cricket to start.

And I really need the cricket to end so footy is back
