Nick Coffield hopeful the Western Bulldogs continues its Eltham trend

There is a pattern emerging at the Western Bulldogs.

And one of the draft’s most promising young defenders, Nick Coffield, is hopeful it continues.

His hero, Marcus Bontempelli, is from the beautiful, leafy northern suburb of Eltham.

In 2013, he was drafted to the Bulldogs.

His best mate, Pat Lipinski, is also from Eltham. Last year, he too was drafted to the Dogs.

Now, Coffield — an Eltham resident and a mad Bulldogs fan — is desperate to be the next in line.

I think you've slightly misinterpreted. It's more that he's a risk of asking to be traded to Essendon once he's in an AFL system, especially if he were to go to an interstate club. He will be willing to go to whatever club drafts him, however his desire to play at Essendon makes him a risk of a trade request once his contract's up.
I haven't misinterpreted at all. This kid has let it be known that he really wants to play for Essendon. It is a blatant attempt to influence interstate teams not to draft him, otherwise why say it at all? He can't be drafted by Essendon. The kid is warning everyone, especially the interstate clubs, that they'd better be prepared for him to go at the first opportunity. That is draft tampering pure and simple.

I come in peace!..

Little bit of information for you lovely folk.

Coffield is your preference at 9, if gone which is expected with one of Saints picks, you'll take Ed Richards, if Jack Higgins is still there at 16 you'll take him also.

Best of Luck on Friday, let's hope Coffield is still there for you guys.
Interesting. Few on here believe we’ll pass on Coffield. I think Saints take him anyway.

That surprises me GC BC, i watch a bit of NEAFL and love his talent.
His best which was Aspley versus Southport around round 17 was
breathtaking mid twenties and four goals plus lots of assists, but
he was a rookie at Aspley. You have a good eye as he has some
clay to mould, but needs core strength and some posture work.

Yeah, I think he's underrated. I love his raw attributes especially his speed, skill and the way he takes the game on. Good overhead by the look of it and his contested game looked decent as well. Hit the scoreboard a lot towards the end of the season.

I am sure he would find a way to spend the 20k cash bonus that
Brisbane would gift him if he goes number one.

Interested in your thoughts on this Mutt. I think you're right RE Rayner. Any similarities here?

Well for a start we probably haven't prompted him to say that ...

I'm not sure if you've heard the same info from a different source - the word I've gotten isn't overly detailed so I wouldn't go quoting me too much - but I would absolutely agree if you have heard too that he has let clubs know that Essendon is where he wants to be.

It's draft tampering and the AFL should impose sanctions in the future for this sort of behaviour...it's bullshit that shouldn't be tolerated.

Well we have an expert on draft tampering in our recruiting team who would know what the rules are and how to get around them, maybe Jason McCartney can offer the guy some advice.

What incentive do essendon have to prompt Rayner to publicly state his preference when they don't have a pick anywhere near his range? I could understand with kavanagh but this year? I'd have thought they'd be better off letting him go to Brisbane than settle at a different club in vic.

Naughton again from Twomey. Dammit. Reckons we met with Higgins recently. Nathan Murphy yes please.

The AFL hasn't taken a stand on the issue but it should. We have a draft and it must be uncompromised. No potential draftee should be commenting on where they would like to play, especially in a competition where players cannot be traded against their will. That includes Coffield.

To keep the draft uncompromised we either need to stop players from commenting at all, or we allow clubs to trade players regardless of where the player wants to go. If we had the ability for clubs to trade players wherever, then I think the players should be able to say whatever they like because their comments would not have the same impact they do under our current system. Because the players have the whip hand at present then anything they say can potentially affect draft decisions..

Naughton at 9 and Murphy at 16 according to Twomey. Love Murphy at 16. Still confused by Naughton. Really need the Pies to take him at 6, and for that to happen the top five mids need to be off the board I reckon.

Interesting he has Stephenson sliding past our second pick. If coffield is gone as he predicts i wouldnt hesitate to pick him at 9 even with the question marks over his heart.
Ideal for me at this stage would be coffield 9 and stephenson 16

Naughton again fellas. Almost universal. Liking murphy at 16.

Agree would love Murphy at 16. Would be great if the cards fell that way.

I suppose Naughton would pretty quickly free up Adams or our Premiership CHF Z Cordy to play at FF, CHF or as general forwards. So, we would have Trengove and (soon enough) Naughton as KPB's. Young, Collins and Roberts would be depth or getting a game if we required 3 tall backs. Redpath would also be under further pressure to get a game if Adams and Cordy are in contention for a tall forward berth.

Interesting. If this happens, it basically says we don't value one or more of Young, Collins and Roberts.

The more I look at it, T Boyd's long term future is as our #1 ruckman.
