If the first 8 picks fell the way Twomey has guessed then I would prefer to take Bonar and gamble on Richards still being there at 16 (assuming we're keen on Richards). Fogarty, Murphy, Richards, Bailey and perhaps even Constable will be around the 16 mark and I feel personally like they're more even. Bonar just screams match-winner to me and can play a role forward which we desperately need.

Cal Twomey saying Constable is more around the 30+ mark now after his 2km shocker. Cannot see us taking him at 16.

It also staggers me how this is the case yet Rayner is still rumoured to be in contention for pick 1. He ran merely a second better than Constable for his 2km at 7:57, has had inconsistent production and little consistent form as a midfielder all of this year.

Rayner is a power/burst athlete though, far more Stringer than Dusty. If he fails to transition into the midfield you end up with a gun mid sized forward.

Constable is slow by modern midfield standards.

Bonar seems like he would develop into a burst mid / forward that we need.
Reading the tea leaves and rumours (as unreliable as they are) I'd guess that D Fogarty, Naughton and Coffield would have to be off the table first before we looked at him with 9 and he's unlikely to last to 16.

In Rayner, you may end up with a zero-defensive-pressure goalkicker with speed and strength who is renowned for being unable to cope with defensive pressure. He was curtailed at school level this year being targeted by opposition teams where so many of the other top picks still managed to star. This, in an AGSV comp, a step down from the level of APS footy. Constable also has far better skills, footy IQ and ball-winning capabilities - Rayner is an impact player who, it appears, can be shut down. I don't consider Constable to be better than Rayner at all, but it's a double standard that Constable slips so much where Rayner doesn't.

From Cal Twomey's live chat thing, there was a question that Twomey answered but has since been deleted. Anyone see it? He basically threw up the usual names at pick 16, but also mentioned we were interested in Liam Ryan at pick 16. Bit strange.

Love a draft eve conspiracy. Brett Anderson also keeps insisting that he could go top 20, interesting.

Yeah I agree with that, also if Constable's tank was that bad it would have been picked up by now wouldn't it? He wouldn't have been able to consistently play in the midfield with poor endurance I wouldn't have thought, is it possible the 2k was an aberration?

I think if CC goes that low in the draft s few people in a few years time will question how it happened. Has a very high work ethic from what I've heard so his endurance and spread won't be a problem for long I think.

Thought I read somewhere that both players were affected by injuries in that run. The implication being that they could normally do much better.
Anyone have any inside info on that?

Tell me more about Oskar Baker - certainly fits the fiery redhead criterion. Too early at 16?

Ex Lions academy player that has good speed and evasiveness. Uses it to good effect too, loves to take the game on. He's got pretty good foot skills and is pretty good overhead. His contested game looks reasonable too, not afraid to get his hands dirty. Found the goals a lot towards the end of the season, nearly averaged 2 goals a game in the last 6-7 games and was only playing in an average side. Capable of running the length of the field to get on the end of it for a goal. There's a few highlights on youtube of him doing it.

Some concerns would be, he's had quite a number of injuries throughout his junior career and even had one at the start of the season. Because of the injuries, his endurance isn't quite up to AFL standard yet and he still needs to add some size and strength.

Pick 16 is too early for mine, but I've learnt that you never say never with a pick in the teens. There's usually some surprises. I was a big fan of Tom Doedee in his draft year, even then I didn't think he would go that high. My rankings for Doedee and Baker are very similar (around 30) for what it's worth.

CC was struggling with a hip or back injury from watching him play TAC finals a few weeks before. Could have still been bugging him.

Good pace & a good kick midfielder, good pace & defensive pressure/high work rate forward/mid. If we aren’t drafting these types of players, I’ll spew

Make sure you have a bucket handy tomorrow night, then.

Looks like we're keeping our cards very close to our chest in terms of giving out info to journos etc. with our third pick, which means we're going to take a player completely out of left field, or go for a mature ager/delisted player so there's no point for our draft team putting a lot of analysing effort into the back end of the draft.
And here it is:

Took a rookie contract at the Aspley Hornets after being cut
from the Brisbane Lions Academy. 6 foot balanced goal
kicking winger who is quite rangy, a poor mans Peter Matera
style player. Needs to improve his core and posture, but
could flourish in a professional environment full time. I have
him Late to Rookie, but i have seen him ranked higher. He
is known as "The ginger ninja" he won goal of the year this
year at the MVP awards, check out the top five there is
some really awesome goals. Did not finish top ten in the
MVP unlike Jordan Keras and Nathan Bertoli-Simmonds two
of my favourites from the NEAFL.

That's certainly my preference too (preferably around 183-188cm) but when we say that we need to acknowledge it comes back to "needs vs best available". I take it you're not in the best available* camp?

*And in case there's any quibble over terminology, by best available I mean a player who is assessed (by Dalrymple) as appreciably better than anyone else left in the draft. Forget this "broadly equal" stuff. Obviously if they are pretty much equal you'd always go for whatever the club's list needs are.

They didn't test at the Combine because of slight niggles. The injury issues they had have been way, way overplayed as a cause of their poor times. They could probably run 20 seconds better with a better paced pack, Constable more likely than Rayner as his endurance is nowhere near as bad as Rayner's. Constable ran a 12.9 beep (I think) at the start of the year, Rayner ran an 11.10. Both are poor scores, but Rayner's is the real worry.

legit question, can Nick Coffield play on the wing?
Yep - very strong as an outside midfielder who can push forward and hit the scoreboard. Fairly strong production at times playing an outside ball-winning role at TAC Cup and Champs level this year.
