Not sure I'd like to be Caleb Daniel in the showers??If we pick Naughton and Ballard at pick 9 & 16, surely we will be the tallest team in the AFL.
People get so enamoured by any tall prospect with athleticism who can play somewhere other than just as a KPP. Ballard has been so overrated just because he can pick up a ball off the ground and is 195cm. None of his traits, if he were 185cm, would put him in certain draft contention. He's a safe ball-user, capable above his head and clean at ground level. Good for him. Has he shown really impressive production at any level this year? No. Has he proven himself at SANFL league level? No. Is there any benefit to have 195cm outside midfielders, really? No.Would love Charlie Ballard, he’s an exciting prospect. 195cm wingman who can also play back or forward - don’t grow on trees.

Have you ever known Dalrymple to get seduced by one or two good attributes or "fads?" Genuine question. I would suggest, based on his history, that if Ballard is in contention for an early pick owned by us, that we view him as having more to his game than simply being a tall mid.Still, the fact that he's in contention for pick 16 is ridiculous and driven so much by the fact that he's 195cm and not a KPP.
Premiership hero cordy to you. It's pretty sad when you can say that Cordy is a better user of the ball than Naughton.
I'm with you. That sort of profile screams Ayce Cordy to me. No thanks.People get so enamoured by any tall prospect with athleticism who can play somewhere other than just as a KPP. I couldn't give a shit if a genuine wingman was 165cm so long as they played the role well. The whole point of being a wingman is that you can transfer the ball from end to end creatively, effectively and with pace, as well as being able to run exceptionally in transition on defence. Having height doesn't assist any of this. It only makes you more capable in aerial contests, which aren't the domain of outside runners.
I actually think Ballard is a fine prospect. I reckon there's a good chance he'll have some sort of success at AFL level with his versatility and general ability. Still, the fact that he's in contention for pick 16 is ridiculous and driven so much by the fact that he's 195cm and not a KPP.
With you on this one Dan…Have you ever known Dalrymple to get seduced by one or two good attributes or "fads?" Genuine question. No, Dalrymple has always been his own man (even with Christian HowardHave you ever known Dalrymple to get seduced by one or two good attributes or "fads?" Genuine question. ) but who says Ballard's really in contention for our pick? A journo who says "WB been linked ..."? To me, that's just journo-speak for "I've made this up" or "I got this from a totally unreliable source but I need to pump out some more pap for the masses while we're waiting for the draft".That's a fair point, and I am one who was highly skeptical of Bontempelli and Macrae for the same reasons when they were drafted, however if Dalrymple is actually really interested in him (which I don't necessarily think is true just because of one rumour) I don't necessarily feel I should validate that opinion merely because Dalrymple has had really good success in the past. If it does happen that we take Ballard at 16, which I would consider to be unlikely, I would be disappointed, and though willing to give Ballard plenty of time to vindicate Dalrymple's decision, I wouldn't be holding high hopes for his transition to AFL level.Have you ever known Dalrymple to get seduced by one or two good attributes or "fads?" Oh absolutely not, definitely not my point. Don't think you should change your opinion if/when he's drafted by us just because he was drafted by us. I'm just suggesting that if we are interested in him, I'd suggest that it's not just because he's tall. We'd see something else in him - which, of course, may end up being correct or incorrect.however if Dalrymple is actually really interested in him (which I don't necessarily think is true just because of one rumour) I don't necessarily feel I should validate that opinion merely because Dalrymple has had really good success in the past.
Oh, OK. Why don't we pay you to be out recruiting officer, then?I don’t think I’ll be happy at the end of the first round of the draft tomorrow night.
Isn’t Easton Wood our intercept defender? Can’t Lewis Young perform that role as well? Aren’t we keeping Smith on the list because we have hope he can do similar?
Spend pick 9 on Naughton, watch him and his loopy hospital pass kicking and then after two years watch him ask to go to Collingwood and we take a third rounder.
Pick Bonar and give ourselves a point of difference.
