With real outside, uncontested types I have 2 sets of criteria that I think are completely non negotiable if they are to make it at AFL level.
Firstly, elite endurance and secondly either an elite kick or decision making (highly subjective). O'Brien fits this so he's an interesting prospect. I'd have expected him to find a lot more of the ball in general this year and especially at the champs but he was coming off an injury so was hard to judge. I think he's a real shot at making it as a well above average outside ball user. No character red flags that I've heard of. Wouldn't mind if we did decide to pick him.

That's exactly the reasons why I think he'd be great for us. And perhaps a bargain pick up at the end of the first round.

I'm not entirely opposed to picking him, but I know someone who has played against him did not rate him overly highly as someone who would offer a heap at AFL level. He has some interesting attributes, but his production has been a little sub-par. Despite having a pretty damaging leg, I haven't seen a heap that would suggest that he would be anything that special. He's a solid player, but I reckon there would be better options in the first round. Having said that, if our recruiting team thought he offered enough I'd support that viewpoint.

I don't think that he will go first round. Way too outside for that. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him picked around the end of the second start of the third.

Honestly as far as outside mids are concerned I perfer what I've seen from Aiden Domic over him.

Would love to see Ned Reeves get a go somewhere in the VFL as a KPF. Looks like a pretty natural player down there for someone who is as tall as Tiny Tim.
Still has 5-10kgs to put on too. I'd be happy to have him on our list.

I like this because a) I agree with the first part (picked him as a slider from way back) and b) well you can probably guess. Aiden seems to have been working on his inside game which makes him more draftable I reckon.

Noticed that Lloyd Meek has put up a few good games in the VFL getting a few goals and around 30ish hitouts.

would love to see what we could do with him as a Ruckman/Key Forward
Two majors v Pies during TAC bye weekend.

Also, don't be surprised if we end up with a gippy boy. One of the scouts who does Sandy, Dandy, Oakleigh and Gippy has been spending a fair bit of time down at Morwell recently.

Few from there could have us show some intetest in. Mostly guys like Cal Porter or Austin Hodge would suit us though.

Reckon Hodge in particular could be a late gem. Bit of a rough diamond.

Domic reminds me a bit of Hunter. Just in the way that he works both ways and gets in really good positions to get the ball, and he nails goals. Reckon he will be drafted in a similar spot to where Hunter was nominated (@ pick 30-35ish).

Yeah I like that comparison. Doesn't have the small forward chops that Hunter had in his underage years, and Aiden's a bit more inside, but the game sense, know-where-to-go-to-get-it is very similar.

Reckon you might be a little more optimistic on his draft range than I am though, I reckon he's late-to-rookie at this point.

Oskar Baker- Aspley Hornets (neafl), the switch has been
flicked. Maybe an upgrade on Adam Sambono although
both are very dynamic and worth a Youtube viewing.

Okay looking at the forwards from the TAC this year.

Gryan Miers - 35 goals in 11 games (MG 6) - Natural pressure small forward who averages just over 3 goals a game at TAC level. Can also play as an onballer. Similar to Luke Dahlhaus. 20-30 range

Daniel Johnston - 45 goals in 13 games (MG 8) - Bit of an older school FF who can go through the ruck. Strong overhead but have some reservations over whether it is just his more advanced strength that gives him goals. Late - Rookie.

Riley D'Arcy - 34 goals in 13 games (MG 6) - plays taller than his height would indicate but also good at ground level. Needs to build up his tank to go higher up the ground but has definite xfactor. 50 - Rookie

Aaron Trusler - 27 goals in 12 games (MG 4) - Small quick and agile forward who provides very good defensive pressure and energy around the ball. At 170cm he is more of a late - rookie selection.

Toby Wooler - 32 goals in 12 games (MG 5) - Has the height and skills to play as a third tall but to me the real future seems to be as a Tall Mid/Forward. 30-50

Ned Reeves - 5 goals in 7 games (MG 2) - might look the odd one out here but it is rare to see someone of Reeves' height move the way he does up forward. Plays mostly in the ruck for Oakleigh but I see him as a Rory Lobb type. Hard to guess the range, depends on the end of tbe year atm about 40 - Rookie

David Handley - 21 goals in 10 games (MG 6) - another of Geelongs mosquitoes. Love the way he moves around the forward half getting into dangerous spots. Reminds me a little bit of Dickson in the way he moves.

Wouldn't mind looking at getting Gowers or Jamieson for our latter picks
Mature players with good fitness base already and have been in our system

There is a decent forward playing for the Bombers VFL, Alex Boyse? Mature age and certainly can take a grab.

I've mentioned Gowers before here. Was played out of position during his time at Carlton and could never really get out of first gear. Would be all for taking him with a late-rookie pick - I reckon he can make the grade.

He's also got a Libba-esque sense of humour which you can see on his instagram page. I reckon he'd slot right into the club, was pretty well-liked at Carlton.

I got Lobb vibes from Reeves too, which is why I'm keen

Hey guys, as our resident draft analysts what is your take on Higgins?
Sounds like the kind of guy we could plug into our forward line from round 1 to rack up good numbers and improve our forward half usage. Where do you see him going?

He will go between the 20-30 mark.

Not one for us though. He gets it a lot and can kick goals but he is not a damaging player by any means.

If we where looking at a half forward/small goal kicker that could play straight up with good skills we would be looking at Lachlan Forgarty. If we just want a small forward who could play straight up then Gryan Miers is the obvious choice.

From what another poster said about one of our scouts hanging around Gippsland way a fair bit it could be we are into Callum Porter with a bit of a later pick.

Higgins is an accumulator, plain and simple. Not for us.
