Still big on Cameron Rayner being perfect for us. We'll need a top 10 pick to nab him you'd think.

My top 3 of D. Fogarty, Rayner and Brander is unchanged still. Rayner has got so many weapons, you'd be mad to pass up on a chance to grab a player like him in the top 3. Has athleticism, a long penetrating kick that can break a game open and power to break tackles. Good height for a midfielder to compliment athleticism and is dangerous forward.

I reckon our first pick will be around where Lachie Fogarty falls and honestly I could see us picking him.

Interesting to see how Gyran Miers goes for the rest of the year feel like he could be the sort of small forward Dal could like considering that tank of his.

Also consider some interest in Callum Coleman-Jones or Tristan Xerri at some point for Tall Forward/Ruck cover.

You've nailed exactly why I want him, but yeah we'll need a very high pick.

Was having a look into CCJ recently, not much footage around but he looks quite quick and agile as well as being a good contested mark. So on those traits he could be developed as a forward/ruck.

What's your thoughts on him?

I know we went tall last year, but I still hope we go for a couple talls again. I'm particularly interested to see the development of Noah Balta, looked great in the one game I saw of him last year apart from his kicking. I liked the look of Toby Woller as well.

Like the look of Xerri from the Jets too. Very clean for a guy who is 201cm, looks like a KPF who rucks a little at the next level.

Then there is Coleman-Jones from SA who needs a little work with disposal but is very athletic and a strong mark.

Wonder also what will happen with Sam Hayes considering what happened with English last year. Kid can seriously play.

Agreed we need to add another ruck to the list, either through trade or draft again. Miers I can see us liking as well. Haven't seen a heap of Lachie Fogarty but not sure he's the type we would take first round.

A pick around 16-18 would mean Lachie would be best available. He wins his own footy, uses it well, can kick goals as a forward and is a fierce tackler. Pretty much like what we have liked in the past so it wouldn't surprise me.

So if JJ goes to GC for a bag of gold, we could end up with a first round pick in the 4-7 range.

Would we be able to get a CHF in this draft for that pick?
Short answer, yes we would be able to. Real question is how good would a CHF be if drafted at that pick? Chances are we would miss out on the highest rated CHF in the draft (Brander) but we would have plenty of options, some of which I wouldn't mind reaching for. I personally like Toby Wooller at the moment who is in good form playing a roaming KPF role gathering plenty of touches and kicking 2-4 goals a game in the TAC cup.

Basically a description of Clay Smith who wasn't even best 22 at the start of the season. Just gave away Hrovat and Honeychurch is also similar minus the 'uses it well' part. If he were best available at that stage I'd still be surprised we wouldn't be taking a little more of an educated high risk/high reward pick, someone with more of a higher ceiling.

He is more in the Tom Liberatore mold. Ready made.

4-7 a bit high for Wooller? Which I guess is your point. Starting to think he won't be around at our original first round pick though.

I was going to say something similar about Hayes. There would be a chance he's available, he's ahead of where English was already though so it's probably not as likely I would have thought. His 2nd and 3rd efforts around the ball do need a bit of work from last year, but other then there's not a lot of obvious negatives I can find.

I haven't seen Xerri and only limited vision on Coleman-Jones, but they both sound good. Should be some good talls to pick from this year at least and there's usually always a few that pop up throughout the year as well. Alex Paech showed some glimpses last year as well, maybe one to keep an eye out for as well.

Agree with this, I think he's too similar to our other mids. If we go for a mid, I'd prefer we go for something that would be a bit more unique to our side.

I see what Wizard is saying though, Dalrymple does have a history of picking inside mids around this draft range (Smith, Dunkley, Hrovat, Wallis).

We do have Scott West's boy next year, isn't he meant to be an inside mid?

It's too early to say but if he maintains his current form and doesn't get injured+has a half decent champs it would seem that way. Not really sure what kind of player I want us to pick up, I think we are well covered in most areas. Aging half back line though still despite having guys that appear ready to step up I'd still rather trial that position a little bit so wouldn't mind more. Can find good ones late draft still, Looking at Tom Williamson from Carlton as an example, someone who's name was brought up here last season went pretty late and looks really good already as one of the youngest players in last year's draft class. Already playing senior footy and led his team for intercept possessions on the weekend (pretty good when playing in the same side as Docherty). Bailey Williams I like but I like him as a midfielder. Brad Lynch has shown he has the skills but I have certain personal doubts about him, as good as I can see him becoming.

I think our gap is up forward. If you try to predict a 2020 team that's the hardest area on the ground to satisfactorily cover. Would love a first round CHF this draft, and there should be plenty of opportunity to get one.

As for HBF, while I agree players like Williams and Webb should aim to be midfielders long term, the fact that they (amongst others) can play HBF to me means it's not such a concern. It's easier to slot a player you prefer in the midfield into the half back line than it is to move someone into a tall forward role successfully.

I have to agree here, the forward line looks real thin in a few years with Crameri & Dickson likely finishing with their best football or retiring.

For key positions, I think you need about four either end. Two key forwards/backs each in the team, two straight away replacements & two developing. So with the developing talls we already have, adding one or two more wouldn't hurt.
But it allows us to have a look at some other forward options, like we don't really have a specialist small forward player.

Yeah I like that thinking, going by your model we have:

Up back Roberts and Adams, Cordy to replace, and Young and Collins developing. Morris obviously can play tall when needed. Pretty solid line I reckon, lacking a A grader once Morris retires though.

Forward there's Boyd and Cloke, Redpath to replace, and NMM developing. Problem here is our developing forward is a rookie, the replacement hasn't got much of a ceiling, and one of our first picked is close to retiring/on the decline. And the other spends a lot of time rucking so far.

Our forward line functions well when we can work mismatches, and a lot of it has to do with Dickson. Hopefully we can find a Tory replacement soon enough. Bit of a unique player but a very effective goal kicker. As it stands I like Lipinski as a developing forward who might be able to rotate midfield in time. Agreed we do probably need to add another KPF to the list but I would hope we pick someone who is a natural player and moves well, hence interest in a Wooller but maybe a Balta as well if his disposal/technique is good enough.

Greene also looks promising as a medium forward.

Yeah Wooller seems more than a one-dimensional goal-kicker which is why I'm keen on him too. Any others like that besides him and Balta? How is Tom McCartin mobility/skills wise?
