What do you think about Joel Garners kicking?

I admit that I'm very iffy on the guy

What I saw of him last year was a very reliable kick, but I'm starting to think it's not that good now. Whatever highlights I've seen of him this year, he barely hits a target. It wasn't that great today as well. Too often he over cooks it on the run.

Watched all 3 games at Ballarat today, may have been seeing things after the 2nd game :drunk:. Just a brief write up of who liked and disliked

Liked

Kane Farrell - BOG for Bendigo.

Darby Henderson - Half back/winger. Showed a bit of class & speed

Brent Daniels - Broke the game open at times. Tried hard. Bit small though

Jordan Johnston - Exciting player. Lloyd was BOG but he was next best IMO

Aiden Domic - Very good, just needs to finish off his work

Flynn Appleby - Mini Dale Morris. Gave Brander a bath despite the massive height difference. Provided some rebound as well

Jaidyn Stephenson - Easily the ranges best IMO. Felt like he had 30 possies in the midfield

Sam Hayes - Around the ground work was good. Better if he could hit the scoreboard

Dylan Moore - Usual good game from him. Consistent

Ryley Stoddart - Impressed with his run from defence and his long kicking. Some poor defensive efforts though

Harrison Nolan - Does a lot of the 1% and helped out his team mates. Good on the intercept and just a good tall defender

Ed Richards - BOG for chargers. Silk

Jack Higgins - Was solid, kicked two but didn't have a big impact. Good forward pressure

Charlie Thompson - See Higgins

Toby Woller - Good. Kicked 3, marked well and had a fair bit of it. Doesn't seem overly threatening for a tall forward though

Matthew Day - Something good happened when he had it. Does need to find more of it

Jack Petruccelle - Close to the knights best . Some of the stuff he does is so wow. Still needs to tidy things up and was quieter towards the end of the game

Ethan Penrith - Outstanding pressure. Did need to get more involved more

Federico - Keeps racking up good numbers

Hamish Brayshaw - BOG. Showed a bit as a forward with 5 goals, his marking has improved

Andrew Brayshaw - Very good on the inside and kicked a goal

Nathan Murphy - Seemed to be switched around a bit and had an impact wherever he played

Charlie Constable - Good game. Kicked a goal, not a big impact though

Will Walker - Had a couple good clearances, where he was able to speed away from the contest. Impressive

Disliked

Lachie O'Brien - Was ok, he just didn't do enough when his team needed him. Fails to get his hands dirty and did his best work in junk time. Disappointing

Jarrod Brander - Got towelled up by a very good but much smaller defender in Appleby. Rubbish

Angus Schumacher - Just has to get in the game more

Loyd Meek - Not a great day for talls, but didn't like his marking and had little impact in general. Had the better of his opponent though

Callen Wellings - Good, but can't kick. Pass

Joel Garner - A day to forget. Had some good battles with Higgins I guess

Nic Coffield - Had some attention in periods but didn't look to be a hard tag. Was shown up in the midfield, looks so much more comfortable down back

Patrick Naish - Meh. Too soft Richmond can have him

Angus Styles - Not liking his ball use off half back

Hayden McLean - Tries hard and I thought he went ok. Should be doing more with his size

Sam Taylor 196cm tall defender had a standout game for Swan Districts league side yesterday in their elimination final win v West Perth. Only his 3rd or 4th senior game from memory...always telling of a players character, temperament and ability when they can step up and perform in big games. Seems to be lost in Aaron Naughtons shadow from Peel, but just as good, taller and one hopefully the WBD have a look at come draft day.

Could Jack Higgins become a high level small forward like we want? Or will he just spend some time there with a plan to move into the midfield? Doesn't interest me too much as a mid but as a small forward maybe? I've heard Toby Greene comparisons.

And how about a trade with Richmond, pick 9 for their's and Geelong's first rounders? I know the consensus seems to be that last time we did this (with Carlton) it was a mistake because we missed out on Curnow, but this draft really feels like a clear top 4 and then really even after that. Richmond could be keen to do it since a bid for Naish might come mid first round and this way they get to trade up for someone they like and still get Naish with a later pick. The only risk for us is if a Dow/Cerra/LDU/Rayner slides and we could have had them.

No idea how Dow makes the team from just 3 games. Same with LDU, Rayner, Garner. No way they had the level of performance and consistency in the TAC Cup to warrant a spot.
