Is it just me or does Bradshaw remind anyone of Cotchin?
He reminds me of our 'brother curse' which makes me very wary.

Bowden, Wiggins, Rawlings, Sexton, Talia, Everitt, Jakovich, etc

1. Lions. Dow
2. Gold Coast. Rayner
3 Carlton. Davies Uniacke
4. North Melbourne. Cerra
5. Fremantle. Naughtan
6. Collingwood. Fogarty
7. St Kilda. Coffield
8. St Kilda. Hayes
9. Western Bulldogs.

Make a case for 3 players you'd take at this pick, why you think they'd suit us & a few of their cons.

Noah Balta - I see him as a forward at AFL level for sure, each time I see him he spends a fair bit of time in the ruck and at the champs played mostly down back. Didn't think he stood out playing back and as a ruck he competes and is handy at stoppages with his speed and size as well as his long leg putting clearances deep inside 50, and I think he will be a handy backup ruck pinch hitting at AFL level but I see his skills being best utilised forward. Few players he reminds me of, for different reasons, Eric Hipwood and Mitch McGovern, even Jeremy Cameron. Three players at varying stages of development but all have in common the athleticism and ability to launch at the ball as well as speed at ground level, and they use it well. McGovern may not share the same running capacity as the others but the similarity with Hipwood is that everyone thought he would be better as a backman in his draft year when he always displayed AFL level tools to be a key forward. I can see Balta doing well with no anti-density rules at AFL level beating players back to goal off turnovers but also being a marking target in slow build up plays. I see a player that has the capacity to be a scoring threat in so many scenarios like the successful modern key forwards do.

Cons - Inconsistent top age year, in part due to playing a variety of roles which may not be overly familiar to him. Question marks over his decision making and feel for the game.

Aiden Bonar - I like taking risks on players with a high upside, especially in the position we are just outside the top group of players. To me Bonar has some tools that a lot of those top prospects don't have with his combination of build and athleticism. Given that, he has as much potential to step straight into the elite environment and play as anyone in that top group of players. He's highly rated, receiving a national combine invite despite barely playing this season and has the ability to play forward and take contested marks. I can see teams further down the order getting a bargain with Bonar, so I'm happy to take the risk on him at 9.

Cons - Already done two ACL's, although the second was because the first one didn't properly heal.

Andrew Brayshaw - Was between him and O'Brien for this spot because I think O'Brien with his speed and endurance will do well at AFL level, but Brayshaw has a bit more to his game at this stage as he's a better player on the inside and spreads hard to pick up uncontested ball on the outside too. Doesn't have the wow factor you'd want in a top 10 pick but I think he's a pretty safe option and ticks a lot of boxes as far as taking his game to the next level. If we went a fairly safe option at this pick, I would be after Brayshaw all the way. I think he has more tools than Constable without the versatility but as a midfielder I like Brayshaw a bit more. Can see him being really successful if he keeps building on his tank and is able to play high time on ground and wear opponents down.

Cons - Nothing physically stands out, athleticism will probably be league average, whilst he's an efficient ball user I don't think his kicking is elite which is something I feel we need more of in our side. Upside probably not as high as others in the draft pool.

Brayshaw*

They are fairly similar.

Brayshaw is a very safe pick can't see him being any worse than a B grader.

JAMES_B_101 Brayshaw's already got elite endurance, not many players his age run 15+ beeps.

Still perfer Constable for the ceiling though Brayshaw's form has him making ground lately.

Oops, Autocorrect..

Didn't know he had elite endurance that's definitely a big plus for him.

Agreed, he looks like he'll be a solid contributor at AFL level at the very least.

Yeah I understand he's already elite but the challenge is for him to keep working on it and become one of the top runners in the AFL too. Should have no issues translating his game from an endurance standpoint though. I can see it becoming a real weapon for him because he's got a good balance to his game already between inside and outside, the difference between being top 10 aerobically in the comp vs. say top 40 could be the difference between being a genuine A grader or not.

Draft watchers any tips for who could be a late bolter (or should I say Balta?) in the mould of Bontempelli/Oliver?

Yeah I was going to say if Richards form stays the same that it has been in the last few weeks through the finals watch him bolt like mad.

1 - Them Skills
2 - Bloodlines
3 - School footy form

If he can add the form though the TAC finals to that list he'd really fly up the rankings.

Could be someone from outside of Victoria, not sure who though. Bonar could be the one if a club picks him high enough. Don't think there's really been an Oliver in the TAC cup this year. Porter may go earlier than expected and has only played TAC cup footy this year.

Hypothetical scenario - Stringer situation somehow gives us access to Cam Rayner and we hold on to pick 9 as well. Crazy hypothetical but if we got the Western Jets product with similar question marks then we'd be making good of a bad situation imo.

Carlton's pick three the best chance of that happening.

I still want us to steer clear of Rayner. Way too much risk, and if we're offloading a guy with attitude and work ethic issues, we don't want to replace him with another guy with those concerns.

I'd still like to get Motlop though, Menzel worries me not only with his knee but his worst is far worse than Motlops

Are lachlan Fogarty and Darcy Fogarty related? what type of players are they? and who's the better one? Thank you.
Unrelated, Lachie is a small goal kicking mid, Darcy is a 190cm forward that can pinch hit in the middle. Unclear who is better for a number of reasons but Darcy probably has greater scope whilst Lachie you could argue is more likely to get the best out of himself. Will come down to best fit/situation they are drafted into. Lachie has had a very consistent year, Darcy has had an up and down year that was cut short by injury.

If we keep pick 9 then I am not against having a go at a player with the weapons Rayner has. Stringer's attitude and work ethic issues haven't stopped him from becoming a premiership player and all Australian at a young age. If Rayner manages the same in 5 years with us then he can walk as well and I wouldn't be super angry. Comes down to opportunity cost and the opportunity of winning a premiership outweighs the cost of a player cracking it and walking out after he's done so.

Disagree. I see Motlop's worst, from a team perspective, as worse than Tyrone Vickery's worst.

I know there's lots of doubters due to Lochie O'Brien's lack of inside/contested game, however what he does do really well, happens to be what our team is desperately lacking in - speed and great kicking skills. At pick #9 in this draft, I'd be happy with him.

I think he could make it to our second pick if Gold Coast don't grab him, Clayton needs to stop been goofy with his picks & select someone GC can actually use.

My issues with his attitude aren't linked to the risk of him leaving, it's linked to the fact that I doubt that he'll perform to the level that he's capable of performing at because of his poor endurance and questionable work ethic. I don't think he'll be the best player in this draft, and definitely not the most valuable team player, and as such don't rate him as someone worthy of a top 5 pick.

I want LDU, I do like Dow. He probably goes first, but LDU has some decent speed that I didn't notice right away just because of his size

When bigger players move quick, they don't look as fast as short players
I guess that's because they don't have to move their legs as much? :p
