Sam Walsh is pure class. Far and away my favourite for next year's draft. High-production, versatile and with excellent skills.

He reminds me a lot of Tom Scully, but I think he has a little more size to use. I am still excited by Rankine and Hill and I love how much confidence Rankine plays with but Walsh is easily comparable to past top 3 picks already. I expect some exciting football at the 2018 champs either way.

Montanaro's is technically a very good kick on both sides. He is a kick first handball second type so he does have some turnovers by foot. You get that when a player chooses to kick it 80% of the time.

Technically a very good kick on both sides, that is what is important for me. So many players get corralled on their non preferred. He doesn't.

Fair enough, I've only seen one game of his. Perhaps he just had an off day, it was pretty windy too I guess. I haven't seen this weeks game yet, I'll have to keep an eye out for him

Tom Scully is a pure outside mid - in Sam Walsh, I see a potential genuine inside/outside mid who can play as a rebounding defender to aplomb. I doubt Walsh will ever have the freakish running capacity of Scully, but his inside work is far superior (mostly due to his reading of hitouts and ability to go to where the ball will be). I wouldn't be surprised if Walsh far surpassed Scully in terms of success at AFL level.

Yeah, we would still need a small forward though that can crumb some goals.

One that can obviously play right away, whether that's Gowers. Someone we trade in or someone we have playing a new role, need more pressure up forward again.

Draft Anastasio, ranga power

The great thing with small forwards are they can generally make an impact straight away. I think Ethan Penrith and Brent Daniels could be worth a look from this year's draft.

I agree with where you see Walsh going at AFL level, the comparison with Scully is because as an under 18's player Scully was a very good inside mid and I doubt he would've gone so high as a pure outside player. Walsh I see having greater potential to translate his inside stuff to AFL level but I can also see him being used as mostly an outside player when he reaches the level where the inside guys are really, really good at what they do and Walsh's elite endurance and outside run will be his greatest strength. Scully has the best aerobic capacity in the comp and it's what sets him apart from literally every other player but as an under 18's player I see similarities.

I wouldn't say Scully has been unsuccessful, you'd only have to ask anyone that's been tasked with playing on him how much they enjoy following him around. Just doesn't get noticed a lot externally for what he does really well. I don't love Tom Scully but if you can throw in a midfielder who can play mid 90's for time on ground % then you have a leg up over the rest of the comp with your midfield rotations already.

He'd be winning Brownlow medals if he far surpassed Scully then. Scully is criminally under rated since he moved out of the spot light up to gws. Had a fantastic couple of years. Be a success if the kid ends up on the same level.

Fair enough, to be fair I didn't watch U18s footy when Scully was drafted, only basing that comparison off of what I've seen of him as an AFL player. I'm also not suggesting that Scully is in any way unsuccessful - his game has gone to another level since 2015 - but, and I know it's very early, I see a potential star in Walsh, and someone that can take his game just that bit further than Scully has done so far.

Good call, I've been with you on Richards. I have some level of confidence he could develop into a midfielder, as he has clean hands in tight and is willing to put his head over the ball. I certainly wouldn't be against going early on him if his end to the year is good and he does well at the combine.

Know that he runs a 2.89 sprint from the testing done earlier in the year. That is some serious speed.

I've been asking about that and it seems he doesn't project to be a good enough small forward to be worth it at 9.

Have to take him at 9. Apparently he's ultra professional. Can see the Bev liking that trait. I like him. Does very well at tac level. Does that game translate to the afl? No idea.

Nothing like Greene. Never seen him kick anyone in the face.

Comparisons are never that accurate. I've also seen him compared to Lewis Taylor when in the midfield.

If Dal likes him enough at 9 though I'd get a bit excited. I'd hope it was as a small forward.

I watched him in one game. Not a great sample size. But he played exactly like Greene in that game. I'm not one for comparisons. But it was bang on that game. He was fantastic. Whether it translates to afl is another thing though.

Would rather draft Nick Coffield/Ed Richards and send JJ forward.

He is a good footballer but he would just add to our size problems, isn't adding any leg speed or silky skills either.
