Ground level isn't great.

Brander has the most tools to his game as a tall forward & I would not be disappointed if he is selected, as long as he has the right attitude.
His game against Metro was really impressive; contested marks, smart leads, kicking set shots, setting up scoring shots, picking the ball up below his knees. The one question that I have is can he do this consistently. I personally don't like him at all as a key defender.

I agree with everything you just said.

I agree Brander isn't really a key defender, I think he could be a good 3rd tall defender though. As a tall forward, if he's used as a 2nd or 3rd tall I think he will go well. His attitude has to be right as you said though.

With everything we know about Brander, is there a chance he's there at #9?

I think he's a chance. He's been inconsistent this year and there's a few question marks on him.
That said, he would have to be a big chance at Collingwood who are desperate for talls.

Can anybody give me a bit more information on this lad? I like the sound of him.

On what I've seen of him which isn't much, I find I'm a bit negative on him. I don't particularly like his kicking style, he butchers it a lot. He's not an overly penetrating or long kick either. And while he is very pacey, I'd like to see him take the game on a bit more. Certainly finds a lot of it, but some of his turnovers are bad.

Fremantle and Saints (they have two picks so they can afford a risk) big chances too.

True. I tend to think that the Saints will go tall with one their picks and I've always thought that Naughton would be a good fit to replace Brown. They could go with Brander instead.

sounds a little like JJ in his early days

Don't really go on the trade threads at all but saw a link to Crozier mentioned somewhere. Could be a good option that would come cheap and is not afraid to take his shots at goal. I would like that move and it would help with our first round pick plans.

So, the 18yr old Tom Mills from Ararat who played in the young guns game is intriguing. Just spoke to him and the reason he got the invite to play was due to interest from AFL club(s). Has an 18-year-old ever been drafted outside of TAC Cup/school footy?

Sam Murray, a couple years ago was rookie listed by Sydney. Played all year in the Ovens and Murray league.

Interesting. What type of player is Mills?

Hey Pugzy, tell us about your local boy? Who is he a fan of and what can he bring to the Bulldogs next year?

189cm lead up forward. Won the Ararat Rats goalkicking for the seniors in the Wimmera Footy League as an 18-year-old. Strong overhead and has reasonable skills. Not sure on why he didn't make the Rebels squad this year though. Despite having enough interest from club(s) to get a spot in the game, no club has directly approached him yet he said. If he gets picked, it'll be real late/rookie I would say.

Keen to see how our lad Buku goes.

Big couple of weeks for Tarryn Thomas and Mitch Anderton, playing against each other in the state league grand final on Saturday then with each other in Geelong next Friday

After watching the replay of round 4 & 9 in the TAC, I must admit Balta is very tempting. His contested marking and athleticism are impressive but the way in which he competes at ground level is equally impressive both from an attacking and defensive point of view. I hope he does get the chance to play up forward in the All stars game. Looks like with Petty, Butts, Podhajsk and Taylor he should get a chance.

Just finished watching the SA U18 GF.

First half from Houlihan was insane. His strength in the air is special. Faded though.

Charlie Ballard moves so well for a 195cm wingman too. Some of his pirouetting out of danger was class. Went into get the contest when he needed to too. I like him.
Big fan of Ballard, think he is well suited to the modern game with his mix of attributes. Intercept marking a strength, spatial awareness and evasive actions very good. Positioning around the contest very effective as a receiver and appears to go for the hardball or tackle when his turn. His movement, ground level and follow up play from a spilled contest for a guy his size is excellent and reminds me of Lynch (GC). What range can you see him going on draft day and position wise where do you see him most effective at AFL level?

Around the second round. I think that he will become a midfielder at AFL level. Has all the tools to be a very good wingman, the height he has is a bonus.

I'm really attracted to guys that have the core skillet for their position, but have additional tools that others he would be competing agaInst in game don't have. In this instance Ballard's link up play, positioning to receive, running and ground level ability are sufficiently competent for the wing position, but additionally his height, which would allow him to be an ariel threat by position, giving his team a competitive advantage. Players that have these additional advantages are uncommon and for that reason I would consider him at our first round pick and value him in the range of 8-20
