I'm really attracted to guys that have the core skillet for their position, but have additional tools that others he would be competing agaInst in game don't have. In this instance Ballard's link up play, positioning to receive, running and ground level ability are sufficiently competent for the wing position, but additionally his height, which would allow him to be an ariel threat by position, giving his team a competitive advantage. Players that have these additional advantages are uncommon and for that reason I would consider him at our first round pick and value him in the range of 8-20

I can get what you are saying but I don't think he will go that high. I fully expect him to be around our second pick (26) because of the years that other players have had.

The reasoning you have behind taking player who have an xfactor is the reason why I like Joel Amartey and Kai Owens from Sandringham at later or rookie picks.

Also out of the SANFL U18'S GF I liked what James Rowe for the losing side. Small but he was in absolutely everything for them.

He won the medal for BOG in a side that lost by 40 points which shows what sort of game he had.

Wonder what he would be like as a small forward because he seemed to have quite a few tools from what I saw in that game.

Had one goal from 35 disposals, 16 contested possessions, 11 inside 50s, 10 clearances and seven marks for the game.

Going to be a good game for watching for Small Forwards this week.

Noble, Chafer, Handley, Miers on one hand and Jarnestrom and Trusler on the other.

I am super keen to see how the players stand out from the talented players that they are teamed with. Convinced LDU still goes first pick and he would be a fine pick for Brisbane.

They will likely get good compensation from the Rockliff deal to(?). LDU & McLuggage would be two nice midfielders to build around, just need a ruck going forward. Not sure on their developing rucks but I would aim for Crossley second round, think he would be a good fit for them.

Can Miers kick?
He's got an odd kicking style and tends to kick across his body but he gets the job done okay. Not really required to be a pinpoint kick as a small forward, and his accuracy isn't really an issue. He's had TAC Cup games where he's kicked a lot of behinds but he creates enough scoring chances that it's not too much of a concern.

And he causes a lot of scoring opportunities for team mates too, chooses to kick to the most dangerous areas in the forward line. His kicking at goal is a bit like how Suckling likes to kick got the same bend and everything.

He can at least kick effectively enough on the run, notice a lot of smalls that cannot kick at all on the run. They come to a complete stop & THEN kick, don't think they would get away with that at AFL level..

Like Trusler too as a rookie, sort of player who needs a split second to kill you inside 50. 31/12/99 b'day too so he has a bit of growth in his game left.

Also Jarnestrom shows a bit too. Bit left sided but he reads the ball in flight so well for a smaller player and has had two very good finals so far. That run down tackle on Isaac Quaynor in the last quarter last week was very good.
