Starcevich's disposal looked fine to me in the All-Stars game, and at least has really good leg speed as another trick to combine with his contested ball-winning.

What did you think of Bonar? I noticed in the Phantom Draft threads that a few seem to think he'll bolt, I am personally a bit unsure of the kid but maybe I missed something. Definitely a handy size though.

I'd think it was risky to, really seems a boom or bust type. There was also a few saying Brayshaw could go top 5, that would make a lot of sense to me. Has had a terrific year.

Bonar looked good, but I really don't know why he's being talked about as a top 10 pick. It's not as if he has potential higher than so many others, he just hasn't played many games and seems to have risen dramatically. His production has been pretty low, even if he does show decent contested ball-winning. I wouldn't be looking at him above pick 26, simply hasn't shown enough in comparison to other, more secure prospects.

Constable's disposal looked pretty awful to me, not really interested in adding another ball butcher to the midfield.

I've come around to Brayshaw, I think Stephenson and Brayshaw is my preference should we go in with 9 and 11. Coffield and maybe Bailey plan B.

Been warming to the idea actually, he's finished the year really well. If we get 11, and assuming Coffield and Stephenson are off the board, I'd be happy with any two of Higgins, Clark, Allen or Brander. And I guess Brayshaw or Constable although not as keen as others on them.

God no. Higgins has Rockliff-like impact with ball in hand, and he's undersized. No chance to be a big part of our midfield in the future with Macrae, Bontempelli, Wallis, Libba, Dahlhaus, McLean, Dunkley etc. Would be playing HFF for the rest of his career if we drafted him. I think he absolutely has a place at AFL level, but he's the last guy we need. Teams who need guys who know how to get their hands on the ball at contests would love Higgins, doubt we would.

He's really come on as an inside mid in the back end of the TAC Cup season, and has lots of experience as a rebounding defender with helps his versatility. The main query with him is his ball use, which is surprising considering he was rated as an elite kick prior to this year. Still think he has the capacity to grow into being a really damaging ball user, which is an exciting proposition with his speed and contested ball-winning. Inconsistent production at the Champs is a concern, but his run home to the year has been impressive and looked good in the All-Stars game.

I have to say that Clark for a 79kg lad, he hits those contests in very Picken like fashion. I went off him a bit for a while but I am starting to warm back up to him.

I'm going to assume that picks 1-4 will contain four of these five: Cerra, Rayner, Dow, LDU and Stephenson.

Freo have pick 5, Collingwood have pick 6, St Kilda have pick 7 and 8.

If we say that Cerra misses out on top 4, I can see Freo, currently, looking at: Cerra, Naughton, Fogarty or Brander. Naughton for the WA factor, Cerra and Brander (unlikely) due to their talent, and Fogarty if they go on potential. I haven't taken the liberty to assess their list needs, but I would be surprised if they reached for someone out of that top bracket of players.

Collingwood at pick 6 is interesting. I think they will be looking hard at Jack Higgins, primarily because they love drafting Chargers players and have really strong connections with Oakleigh and players of that region. Their draft thread is linking them to Coffield and Fogarty, and if Cerra was available I'm sure they would jump. I feel like Brander would be a good fit - Victorian and could help their KPP depth, however I wonder whether recruitment teams will start to prioritise smalls given the success of us and Richmond in recent times. Think Higgins, Fogarty, Coffield, Brander and Cerra will be in their sights.

St Kilda have the power to screw us over, as Dav1d said, so long as their keep their picks. I would be surprised if that happens, and them using one of those picks to get Gaff would be perfect for us. For now, lets assume they keep picks 7 and 8. Most talk is about them needing class and speed, blokes with a bit of a point of difference. Their draft board has a bit of chat about Bonar, Fogarty and Brayshaw who could be good fits in different areas. Obviously, they'll be looking strongly at Coffield, and if Cerra fell past Freo and Collingwood it's safe to say that they'll snap him up. Brander could appeal if they're worried about McCartin to add a bloke with superstar potential to their depth given Riewoldt vacancy. Cerra, Coffield, Fogarty, Brander, Bonar and Brayshaw look the most likely possibilities.

I'm being pretty optimistic because this whole exercise is to determine in what scenarios does Coffield make it to us. Really, at the moment, the key factor is whether Brander is taken top 8, and two of Higgins, Naughton and Fogarty rise. I have a feeling that St Kilda will really like Fogarty and will take him if available, meaning it's up to either Freo or Collingwood to draft based on proximity. Freo seems the more likely prospect, as the WA factor tends to be quite influential for Freo, and would allow Logue to play forward more should Naughton step into the attacking CHB role. I feel it's too much of a jump to say that both Freo and Collingwood reach for Naughton and Higgins, but it would be a dream come true for us if it did.

Clark was my favourite at the start of the year, and then I dropped off him. Over recent weeks I'm back on him, currently he's probably my favourite after the big 4, Stephenson, and Coffield.

Higgins' primary trick is his ball-winning. He posts very high contested possession numbers as he has an innate ability to get to where the ball is going in the contest. For him to play out his AFL career as a small forward would be to waste that talent, and I don't think it's right by Higgins to put him in an environment where his midfield game will not develop.

His game is also, in my opinion, not really suited at all to a small forward role. He doesn't have the defensive instincts or energy to succeed in that role. I compare Higgins to Jade Gresham in many respects, being superstar undersized ball-winners with dash at the contest. They are differentiated primarily due to their athleticism - Higgins does not have the same acceleration as Gresham or lateral movement, whereas Higgins is an endurance beast. Gresham's acceleration allowed him to transition into the high-pressure deep forward role really well for St Kilda. I can't see Higgins playing that role without the ability to make manic repeat efforts without ball in hand. Higgins, up forward, is a purely attacking player, meaning he is best suited to a high HFF role where he can use his excellent fitness. The issue I have with Higgins is that while you can rely on him to win the ball and hit the scoreboard either as a midfielder or a HFF, he has too strong an attacking mindset without really damaging ball use. This doesn't help us enough to be playing him in such a role for the bulk of his career, if we drafted him.

He also doesn't really scream a Dalrymple pick. I can't think of one vanilla pick he's made, ever. That's what Higgins is - he's an accumulator around the contest who hits the scoreboard, but doesn't have the kind of athleticism or manic defence required to be truly dominant for his size.

THE SEASON is done, but that doesn't mean footy has stopped.

On Tuesday, 85 AFL hopefuls will gather at Etihad Stadium for the start of the NAB AFL Draft Combine, which will run through to Friday.

Across the four days the players from around the country will take part in physical and psychological testing and be interviewed by clubs for what may be the final time before November's draft.

This year's combine looks a little different to previous years, with the famed beep test shuttle run replaced by the 'yo-yo' test, and the 3km time trial shortened to a 2km run.

AFL.com.au will have all the results exclusively as they come to hand during the week, but get up to speed with who could be in the mix to take them out across the week.

Kicking assessment
Test to be held Wednesday night

The handball test has been cut from the combine schedule, but the kicking test remains, where players take six kicks of various distances and angles and on both feet. This test is best for players who are good on their non-preferred foot, meaning Hunter Clark looms as a possible winner given his capacity to kick well over any distance on his preferred right foot and also his left side as well. Lochie O'Brien is also adept on both sides, while Jack Higgins is a very tidy kick on both feet so could be in contention.

Goalkicking assessment

The goalkicking test has also survived despite some changes in the Combine testing format this year. It will see prospects taking six shots at goal from different areas inside the 50m-arc, including a couple of on-the-run kicks. Gryan Miers has a unique goalkicking action, but kicked seven on Grand Final night for the Geelong Falcons and has a very nifty goal sense, while Jack Higgins will also back himself to go well in this test after proving to be a dead-eye during the year. Oscar Allen booted 11 goals over the under-18 championships for WA and is a steady kick, while Lachlan Fogarty is another smaller type who has shown to be very handy around goal.

South Australian forward Jordan Houlahan will be a good show here. The marking forward has made a reputation for himself for flying for big grabs near goal, and he never seems to require much of a run up to boost himself towards the ball. Nathan Kreuger is another athletic South Australian who has shown real power in his game so it will be interesting to see how he tests across the week. Victorian defender Noah Balta may also challenge, having played in the ruck at stages this year despite being undersized.

Fresh from a very good performance in the NAB AFL All Stars clash on Saturday, West Australian Larke medallist Oscar Allen could be one of the favourites for this test. He jumped 93cm in testing earlier this year, which comes through in his long reach when going for marks. Jack Petruccelle is another who should perform well in this test. The talented former basketballer flies for his marks for a shorter player but has genuine spring in his legs.

All eyes will be on Jack Petruccelle here. The Northern Knights speedster clocked in as the fastest player in the TAC Cup earlier this season when he ran 2.82 seconds over 20 metres. That's elite speed. He could have a challenger in Nick Shipley, though, who tested at 2.84 seconds earlier this year in NSW. Ed Richards, Zac Bailey, Jaidyn Stephenson and Noah Balta are others who could produce good times in the sprint test with powerful movement crucial to their respective games.

Combine record: Stephen Hill (7.77 seconds, 2008)

Victorian midfielder/half-back Lochie O'Brien was one of the best performed prospects at the TAC Cup testing day earlier this year in the agility run, recording an elite time of 7.91 seconds. Anything under eight seconds in the agility test is good going. Charlie Spargo is still overcoming shoulder surgery but also tested excellently earlier in the year with a 7.83-second run, while Mitchell Podhajski (7.97 seconds), Matthew Ling (7.90 seconds) and Jordan Johnston (7.86 seconds) are others who could be in the mix.

The 'yo-yo' test replaces the beep test, so there'll be a new way for prospects' aerobic capacity to be measured. The new test sees players need to run between cones that are 20m apart at timed intervals. Participants have a 10-second recovery period between the 20m sprints where they are required to jog to another cone and then back to the starting point before the next shuttle begins. A prospect's score in the yo-yo test can be presented in total distance run, the level achieved or his maximum rate of oxygen consumption. For instance, reaching level 14.1 in the beep test was considered a very good run. In comparison, a basic conversion of level 14.1 in the beep test to the yo-yo is a level score of 22.2, which would be an accumulated distance of 1160 metres and a VO2 maximum of 61.1. So anything above the score of 22.2 is very good going.

2km time trial

The 2km time trial replaces the 3km time trial which has closed the final event of the combine in recent years. The guys with elite running abilities should still be the clear winners, with Dylan Moore sure to be a chance. Lochie O'Brien has an elite athletics background and has had some time to prepare for the run, while Brayden Ainsworth would be Western Australia's best bet in this category.
