One week to go.

Wonder what all this waiting has been like for the kids? Nerve wracking I imagine. Easy for us to say that we're anxious but these kids' lives are about to get shaped by a bunch of blokes calling out numbers.

Some will move interstate. Most will turn their back on the club they followed all through their childhood. Some will end up becoming legends for a club they never dreamed of playing for. All named are going to have to make some big adjustments as they start playing footy with and against grown men. After reaching the top of the heap in the juniors they'll be starting all over again.

And quite a few are going to have their dreams shattered when their name still hasn't been called after the last draft pick.

One things for sure. Every club will declare they are delighted with their draft haul ("we're rapt that player x lasted through to our pick ... we thought he'd go much higher") and every draftee will say that he's over the moon to have joined such a great club. I'd love to know what they really say to their Mum and Dad in private.

Would love Murphy and Richards at 9 & 16.
That's pretty much my ideal scenario as well. All going well they offer so, so, so much of what we need. With 79 and our remaining rookie pick after Roarke if we can grab some raw grunt and a small forward with potential I would be absolutely stoked.

I reckon we are more nervous than the kids.

Maybe we think Coffield will already be gone.

Don't often see his name linked with us though.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind grabbing a mature aged small forward like Schultz late (who is a bit similar to L Fogarty), as well as a Porter or Smithson.

Really starting to get the feeling that Naughton is going to be our guy at 9. Very good player but a bit of a questionable fit for us.

Can see plenty of raised eyebrows and a few melts over it. Can’t say I’d be thrilled either.

I don’t mind it if they think he is best available.
Not sure Collins kicks on, not a Roberts fan, can play Adams forward, Morris has one year left and Trengove is a bit of a stop gap.

I want a speedy midfielder but if there isn’t one at 9 we rate, I don’t have a problem with this pick

Naughton is a different player to all of them though and would be in direct competition with the likes of Cordy, Young and Wood. That's the issue I have with it, not necessarily that he's a key defender. It's the style that worries me - if he were a deep brute I'd have less of an issue with it (but would still prefer a player in another position).

Bishop said he's hearing the Dogs don't pick Coffield if available.

Leave your melts here for my enjoyment pls.
Fair enough, I have certainly cooled off on him across the year. Still think he will become a good player though.

I do hope if we go for Naughton that he fixes up that kicking, yikes.

No chance we pick up Naughton if available. Got way too many talls. Can see us going for Murphy, Bonar or Richards.

Please just draft mids with speed and foot skills. Decision making a bonus.
Couldn't agree more- Richmond have drafted for speed past few years, it's the one thing you can't coach. You look at guys like Collins, Roberts, Redpath and you can see they are doomed to be fringe players forever- no amount of effort will help you chase or get away from the pack when you need to.

Trying to narrow down who we might have available at 9 by hypothesising who will definitely be selected before our turn.

I come up with a list of 5: Rayner, LDU, Dow, Brayshaw, Cerra.

That leaves 3 picks. In that mix, it seems: D Fogarty, Stephenson, Coffield, Clark, Naughton, Bonar, Brander & Murphy.

I am assuming that we don't want a KPP (despite some of the media reports linking us to Naughton). Therefore, we would not take Naughton or Brander.

Therefore, at least 3 out of this 6 should be available: D Fogarty, Stephenson, Coffield, Clark, Bonar & Murphy. Any one of these would do me for a pick 9.

Is my logic sound?

Surely the injuries that they were carrying are still effecting them. Their running is below average but it wasn't nearly as bad as that.

Unless they stuffed up and had a minute on the clock when they started lol.
Was everyone running that slow? Could be that there were no pace setters, nobody to chase or keep up with.
