2017 Draft rumours

Not a chance for bottom two with north and Gold Coast.
I think we need to finish bottom 2 looking at what is coming through next year. Doc a big loss for the Blues on top of Gibbs. Not sure you will be much better than us.

Fair cop - a lot of conjecture and disagreement on your board about your players of need/desire. Behind Alirr, Grundy and Reid (swingman) I wasn't convinced of your KPP depth. Also having lost a few taller defenders (Laidler, Johnson) and with Clav's rebound game - felt it was fair. Have also now funnily seen LOB's name bandied around at your pick by a few - maybe I've willed it into being!

Lewis Melican is probably a name you'll hear a bit more of

I could understand decent clubs hanging crap on North, but for a team who hasn’t finished on top of them for years. What would make North finishing higher than Carlton any different next year. Gibbs is a bigger loss than Mullet and Hansen. Let’s just face it we both currently suck.

I don't understand. Since when are only supporters of 'decent clubs' able to put forward their thoughts on the 2018 ladder?

Also, of what relevance is it that North has finished above Carlton for X number of years in a row? Does the ladder not change year on year?

It's no certainty, but there's every chance that Carlton finishes above North Melbourne in 2018. And what happened in 2015 has no bearing on that.

St Kilda like to play it safe don't they?

recent drafting doesn't love a punt.
Who would you think we should take at those two picks?

Baring in mind that it's generally outside speed/run/polish better ball movement and delivery that we're needing most at the mo.

I think Saints fan would enjoy a pair out of Stephenson, Fogarty, Murphy and Bonar more.

In that order

Were someone to mention the progression/regression of Carlton you would rightfully mention the player turnover the last few years, including the 11 delistings and 3 traded out players from 2015 as being a part explanation of the team performance.

So what happened in 2015 absolutely impacts what will happen in 2018. Except when it doesn't suit your argument because I'm being intentionally obtuse and pedantic.

It does always change. But you haven’t recruited any A grade talent plus lost Gibbs, and we haven’t lost any great players. So what makes you so confident? Not to mention Docherty is out for the year, who I believe is an absolute star. Anyway back to draft rumors and not bias comments of our own clubs.

I think our hope is that the plethora of first round picks we already have will see elite players rising from within rsther than recruiting them ready made.

Well we've been linked to all of them and we're meant to be extremely keen on Stephenson, but that will of course depend on the advice we get re his heart.

Fogarty would certainly be interesting, but we already have Membrey and also Battle coming through for up front, so we really wouldn't have room for him there for the years until he builds a tank to play midfield (if he does), which means we'd be starting him down back, and hoping he develops his tank and so-on to play midfield, just as we would Coffield. He's more brutish than Coffield and stronger overhead, but much slower and less able to weave through traffic and both have terrific kicks on them.

Murphy is not one I'm that keen on and don't see why we'd want him more than Coffield or Clark, but we are said to really like him. Seems like a slower version of Coffield in some ways but with a better mark. Hard to say with him though, being so raw, but I don't watch his highlights and think "we must get this guy!".

Bonar I agree with you wholeheartedly on and he's the one I'm most hoping for on Friday night. Don't really care that much who else we get if he's one of them. WANT, but obviously comes with significant risk attached- which I'm OK with if he gets the medical all-clear.

Clark I love the way he goes about it and some of his tricks and so-on and I reckon he's extremely likely to have a good career, but there are others I'm hoping for more, so he's one I'd be a bit meh about personally, especially if we pick him ahead of Bonar. Will warm to him very quickly if he comes tho, with the way he goes about it. Think there's a fair bit of Sloane in him.

Would really like the Coffield/Bonar combo, or if not, the Coffield/Stephenson combo.

North could certainly be better than Carlton, especially after Carlton have lost two of their best players. Gold Coast have talent - perhaps a bump with a new coach?

Picks won’t be in the late 30’s. Dogs could easily finish bottom half. Adelaide could finish bottom half of the 8. You never know. Carlton hands down won that trade
No reason to think Adelaide and Bulldogs won't finish top four. Adelaide have excellent youth pushing up, have added a top five player in Gibbs and have obvious replacements for everyone they lost - as well as the massive home ground advantage.

Bulldogs are recent premiers who have got rid of some toxic players and overcome their premiership hangover.

No. Our ladder position in 2015 in relation to North has no bearing on what will happen in 2018.

We finished below them then...that doesn't mean the same will happen next year. A lot has changed at both clubs.

Adelaide could very well finish top 4. But they also may not. No guarantees. And as we saw this year dogs are definitely no certainty to finish top 8. So the dogs pick could end up being round mid 20’s.

So could be a mid 20’s pick and an early 30’s pick in what is a super draft next year. And Carlton have the best of the Silvagni’s coming in next year. Big Ben, 190 something centimetres and 90 something kilo when he was 16-17. Already bigger than his old man and the kid has serious talent

Yep - we are at the beginning of bringing in elite talent and need some time in the bottom 4. Next years draft looks amazing. I will take another low finish and then start to build.

Lever is a loss. But you won’t lose many at home and top 4 should be minimum.

With one main difference. You have zero talent bar brown,we have quite a deal more. You can argue all you like but that's reality and yes we've finished near the bottom last few years and that's why.
