2017 Draft rumours

Carlton definitely has a need for pace and skill, both off half back and through the midfield. You can't really ever have enough of either.

Happy to back SOS' judgement here. Fair to say he'll have seen plenty of Richards over the past couple of years.

We need a Simpson replacement as well. Willo will more than likely play wing/midfield and there's no guarantee Byrne will make it. We may also look to move Doc into the midfield.

I am totally against this selection of Rayner at one. There are just way too many warning signs with this kid. Very early in the year the club has stated mids are our focus, well; Terrible aerobic capacity, club believes he’ll be able to move into the midfield:drunk:, down hill skier IMO, went missing in the 3rd/4th quarter against VicC, kicked a bag against the Allies , questionable output in school games, wasn’t even the best player at Western Jets (L.Fogarty) and will be back in Vic in 2yrs bookmark it!
Completely agree with this. For a no 1 pick to go on potential rather than performance is a huge concern. He’s kicked goals in a dominant Vic metro team, but hasn’t done much at TAC cup. Will struggle to adjust to the pace and defensive intensity of AFL. Really don’t see why he’s a better option than the 4 midfielders we could choose from. He is not a match winner yet and I doubt he’ll become one. Really hope the experts are wrong about who we’re taking.

Not with his heart condition.

Yeah, I don't know if I would write the bloke off on that. The specialists have cleared him to play.

Nathan Eagleton turned out to be a pretty good player. Would he be any more of a risk than Bonar?

I mentioned those 3 clubs because they have high back up picks and could afford to be a touch speculative with their second picks.

I would be over the moon if he managed to slip to 23, based on these reports. He has elite traits.

IMO it will be a good result if Carlton miss out on Rayner and Fogarty.

I'm hoping we hear that Dow is joining Carlton tomorrow night. He's exactly what we need and feel that he'd compliment Cripps and Kennedy beautifully.

I've not followed this years draft at all but was wondering the same thing. Does he suit what we're looking for?

Any of the top 5 prospects would. We still need inside and outside midfielders, which Dow suits perfectly. Also a point of difference is his pace.

I like Brayshaw, but Dow and LDU are ahead for mine.

Twoomey has Stephenson sliding to 17.
What exactly is his heart condition?

It is something that has never been diagnosed until he had medical testing at the combine.

He has been passed to play AFL football by heart specialists.

I have no problems if North end up drafting him.

Eagle had SVT, a very benign condition that can be fixed in a week with an ablation performed under local anesthetic (entry via femoral artery in the though).

JS's condition is substantially different - the same issue ended Alex Villis' AFL dream last year, advised by cardiologists he can't even play socially.

Why the medical clearance now if this is the case?

This kid has played high level sport for years and didn't even know he had this condition until recently.

I don’t like the attitude cam and his mumma are approaching this

Gimme Dow and that’s it

I want strong characters and tough bastards

Look at the difference how LDU Cerra dow brayshaw carry themselves

We'll see, plenty more can happen.

Will be happy if it falls that way.
After the top 3 it could go a million different ways. But top 3 are pretty much set. Brisbane will take Rayner, Freo LDU and Carlton Dow. It was Cerra for awhile but SOS warmed to Dow.

Same as Villis - and the medical clearance for JS was for the combine IIRC.
He's undertaking full tests that won't be available until after the draft, hence clubs ruling him out completely (ie St Kilda) despite his talent being clearly top 10.

A real boom or bust type and some clubs have decided the risk is too great.

It hasn’t been said exactly what his condition is
Or has it now?

Got zero confidence in him staying in QLD his whole career. Hope for the lions sake though that he does. LDU or Dow would be less risky. Stick to the country boys Brisbane!
