Do you know how they do it though?

If they want to know for instance who St Kilda are likely to pick at 7/8, they'll call up someone from WB, who have pick 9, and Carlton who have pick 10, and ask them who we're into, because they're the ones most likely to know who will actually be OK with telling you.

I think a lot of it is based on the extent to which some players are scouted. Clubs will interview a lot of players but those they are really keen on will go a bit further i.e. call up school principals, jnr coaches etc.

I don't know how many journos are in the loop but I did have a full time recruiter from an AFL club tell me a few years ago that they give Twomey a little bit of info to get some back. I know for sure that Twomey had a pretty good relationship with Essendon, Melbourne, Collingwood and another Melbourne based club.

Re 30% CP's.

Champion Data were quite specific.

History says if a player cannot achieve at least 30% CP's in U18's they are unlikely to succeed at AFL level.

This makes logical sense.

I.e. If they can't win a decent % of CP's at U18 level while they are amongst the top 6 players on the field - they are unlikely to succeed against grown men at AFL level.
 
Are people forgetting West Coast bid on Luke McDonald? Thankfully for North they still got a bargain as he should have been the #1 pick. Teams will do whatever they can to make other teams pay the market value. North also bid on himmelburg and steele.

I think you've confused me with another North poster. I said mountford was signing, rockliff was going to SA and balic was coming to North. 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Melbourne showed more interest in Balic so not bad.

It would be one thing if Martin out of hand rejected North's offer without even bothering to open the envelope, but given how much they were sweating until he made his decision, there's a lot of history re-writing going on here.

Anyway, they won the flag, good luck to them, that's the point of the whole thing, you put up with the shit so you can not give a shit when you win the flag.

Seems since the Stephenson heart thing we've crossed him off in favour of Fogarty which suggests that instead of going for a pure mid like observers say we must, we're actually going for X-factor game breaking talent.

Fogarty isn’t a mid. Mid/forward yes but he’s not a mid. He’s a good size and can even play back
Best option for them for mine. I hope they don’t take him and he gets to 10 but I doubt it
