2017 Draft rumours

I wish this thread was more exciting from my perspective but considering we come in at #43 ish it's hard for it to be anything else.

Hope to see Aaron Darling and Mason DeWit get a gig at an AFL club but most likely as rookies if at all it seems.

Anyone hear who the Hawks might be in to?

When was the last time the Hawks had a top 10 pick? I imagine it has been ages since the Hawks went into any draft having a fair idea of who they were going to draft.

Luke McDonald was #8 in the 2013 draft,West Coast had pick #11 and took Dom Sheed ??? How did this happen

In 2013 FS bidding was conducted on the morning of the first day of trade period prior to the window opening.

West Coast traded their #6 to Collingwood later in the period for #11 and pick 30 odd IIRC.

All these rumour and I still have no clue what so ever who the Swans will end up getting at pick 14.

So far it is anyone of Higgins, O'Brien, Murphy, Brander, Constable, Clark, L.Foggerty, Richards and Bonar.

Won't matter who you take they will be a gun.

Just a Sydney thing.

#2 Josh Kelly
#3 Jack Billings
#4 Marcus Bontempelli
#13 Patrick Cripps

Yeah Ok now we know why people just laugh at you - You need to see a doctor
Always easy in retrospect. He was a chance at #1

I will ask KM at 6pm on his ESPN feed.

Mitch Thorpe - 2006 pick #6 was the last top ten
Ellis at #3 and Dowler at #6 in 2005
Roughead at #2, Franklin at #5 and Lewis at #7 in 2004

SOS's son went at #53 ? Jack Viney was rated top 2-3 in his draft year but didnt get bid on by gws even though they had the 1st 3 selections

Silvagni went at 53 on the back of playing a couple of TAC Cup games. He's a good prospect but where he was taken was about where he was expected to go and where he was rated.

Viney isn't particularly relevant given he was never going to GWS and they rightly didn't bother putting a bid in for him. Port did at pick 7 though, which was the 4th 'live' pick that year.

The Swans actually have a so-so record when it comes to first-round draft picks. Beatson (our recruitment guy) actually has a far better record with the rookie draft for some reason.
You guys should look to trade down from the first round to multiple later picks every year.

Luke has spent 80% of his career so far in tagging roles.

He would have won the rising star if any consideration was placed on defensive footy.

North footy boss Cam Joyce speaking to AFL.com.au
- Taking five picks to the draft
- Aiming for best available at our picks
- Work has been done by our medical staff on Jaidyn. Haven't ruled him out like other clubs.
- Andrew Brayshaw - he is one we have definitely spoken about

Beatson's record with first round picks at the Swans is decent enough. He just hasn't had many choices to make. The consistent disasters of the naughties were mostly before he was in charge. I think the Lewis Johnston draft was the first one he got to make the final call. So you can't hang the DOK, Willoughby, Vezspremi disasters on him.

Since he took over, success rate with earlyish picks has been so-so. He's not had that many to play with (acknowledging that three were no-brainer matches of bids). He's missed early in some drafts, and taken a couple of sound players early in others, but it's been a lot better than from 2000-2007.

How many ums

Can't really credit Beatson with choosing Mills or Heeney though (or Tom Mitchell, who should also have been on the list). They all picked themselves.

Probably could have included Jetta though as he was a Swans pick in the first round and he, despite being at another club now is clearly a tick for the recruiters.
