2017 Draft rumours

I wish this thread was more exciting from my perspective but considering we come in at #43 ish it's hard for it to be anything else.

Hope to see Aaron Darling and Mason DeWit get a gig at an AFL club but most likely as rookies if at all it seems.

Anyone hear who the Hawks might be in to?

Check our boards draft thread for KM's response.

Just heard from a few sources Freo are seriously considering taking him at two cause he’s the other mid they want and think LDU has more of a chance of getting to 5 than Cerra does. Would assume that would mean they think North prefer Cerra over Brayshaw and LDU but rate Brayshaw higher than LDU. Who knows though. Anything could happen

They are not going to piss fart around with hunches with the clubs most valuable pair of picks in a decade.

It’s about trying to get both the players they want. They probably know they can most likely get LDU at 5 but know they probably won’t get Cerra at 5 so you might not rate him above LDU but it’s where you take him so you can get both. If they take Cerra at 2 Carlton will still take Dow at 3 and north probably have Brayshaw and Fogarty higher on their list anyway so wouldn’t take LDU then Freo have exactly who they wanted

The Swans actually have a so-so record when it comes to first-round draft picks. Beatson (our recruitment guy) actually has a far better record with the rookie draft for some reason.

Beatson stated in an interview "we spend as much time on the rookie draft as we do on the main draft".

Time very well spent based on the results.

Agree - want Cerra, would be fine with Brayshaw. Fogerty is a pass for me - every chance he is a gun but we need mids. Raynor is the only non mid I would be ok with but that looks remote.
Serious question: talls first, smalls second (or spine before midfield if you like) is a fairly well-established build model. Are North really that well stocked for talls? Brown is obviously quality but everyone else seems either old or a bit of a question mark at this point. There's also another slew of smalls due next year in Thomas and the F/S kids.

The jungle drums are beating for LDU sliding..

Silvagni went at 53 on the back of playing a couple of TAC Cup games. He's a good prospect but where he was taken was about where he was expected to go and where he was rated.

Viney isn't particularly relevant given he was never going to GWS and they rightly didn't bother putting a bid in for him. Port did at pick 7 though, which was the 4th 'live' pick that year.

So whats the difference with Naish ??? He is never going anywhere but Richmond either

Pass on LDU & you pass on him for good IMO
Hopefully we call his name out for pick 2 & one of Fogarty, Cerra or Bonar.
Not Brayshaw please

If Freo are passing on LDU at 2 then it is because we expect him to be there at 5. This has all the hallmarks of a Brad Lloyd **** up.

Or could be 2004 all over again.
When Hawthorn knew Tigers were going to take Roughead at 4 so jumped at him at 2 prompting Richmond to take Tambling at 4.
This then allowed them to take their man at 5…knowing he was a strong chance to get there.
That man at pick 5 needs no introduction either.
