I had not even heard of Murphy a fortnight ago, then I heard suddenly that the Swans are very interested in him at 14, and suddenly the Bulldogs are interested in him at 9 and even Collingwood are considering him at 6. He has jumped up the pecking order a huge amount in a very short period of time.

We've been talking about him as a chance at 9 on the Dogs board for a while but that's because we know Dalrymple likes a punt. I'd be super happy if he lasted to 16.

He is exactly what you need imo.
Clearly Buckley wants to build a mobile side but a lot of your guys are too similar and/or too short (Mason Cox on the list doesnt make up for this). Naughton looks mobile and tough but can also actually compete in the air with his height.

Des wore a Freo polo top during the draft testing I think. Jesse took a photo of himself in a Dockers scarf and put it on Twitter.

Rayner I guess is doing his bit to stay in Vic. If he does get drafted by the Lions or Freo he might do a Des and leave or do a Jesse and stay.

Des was never keen on leaving WA. More so never took well to very aggressive coaches. The combination of moving interstate to brissie plus being coached by Leigh Matthews was never going to work long term.

Credit to freo for bringing him back home. He's a great bloke and someone the supporters should be proud of to call their player. Still does a lot in the community.

Of the touted top 3 this year: Rayner, LDU and Dow. None want to move interstate. They'll no doubt do it but it's not their preference. LDU probably the most likely to adapt. Rayner the least. I think LDUs mum has a property in Brisbane or the GC?

Having said that. There's a trend where clubs are losing their high end talent to trade early on because clubs are becoming more speculative on talent they trade in. They're prepared to give up big money to young players on potential to lure them home.

I can see a strategy come in where by clubs secure high end talent but do not see it as "theirs" long term. Similar to the GWS strategy of loading up on high end talent then accepting some of it will leave but they will be able to turn that into another high end player in another draft. For freo this could be the fall back plan if their pick 2 decides to go home. They could then turn them into an even better player from WA next year in a better draft. Someone like Ian Hill. Victorian clubs may favor this given the draft next year is less Victorian centric. Win/win.
