I raised the prospect of Rayner tanking it but not for the purpose of getting to Carlton and mentioned nothing about Carlton being involved.

I'd rather he did test well to be honest because his lack of a tank concerns me. We need midfielders so him being able to go through the midfield for more than brief stints is important.

Yeah because the difference between Rayner being a forward/mid and a full time mid is the difference between a flag and runner up .
People put way too much emphasis on the impact of a player in their first year, even team at the bottom of the ladder.

Fact is Rayner is just about unanimously considered the most talented, most dangerous player in the draft regardless of whether or not he ever becomes a midfielder and just about every person that has dealt with him on any sort of personal or professional level through football has no doubts that he will end up playing significant midfield minutes as he enters his prime.

Who cares what he will be in his first season. Stop extrapolating.

Also LDU, Dow and Brayshaw have been talked about at #1 in recent days. Many have talked about how amazing it is there is no stand out number 1.

You're obviously a guru though so anybody who has a their own concerns or preferences is automatically wrong.

Love the fact you bake me for my concerns about Rayner and follow it up by attributing comments to me that I never made as if he is the one I really want after all. Having an each way bet.

Wonder if that will impact what Collingwood do at 6, given that their next pick isn't until 38?

Finnis on SEN today apparently said we are looking for someone for a key defensive role in the draft and implied more of a stopping type, so I imagine we'll be looking hard at the Taylor/Petty types at pick 35.

I would have thought a well-rounded midfielder like Brayshaw or Cerra in addition to a bit of x-factor like Bonar (or Stephenson if he slides) would pretty much be the dream for the saints?

Silk off half-back was a bit of a deficiency I noticed this year too so Coffield would definitely appeal although I really hope you let him through to us

Most drafted mids do. Your best midfielder spent his first 3 years at Collingwood as a forward who rotated through the middle.
