Which of the top 3 mids - Cerra LDU Dow - is the best kick?
I not sure there is a big difference between the 3 of them. Possibly LDU. But they're all predominantly inside mids, so quite a few of their kicks are hacks out of congestion, the same we see from Rockliff, Beams, Dangerfield etc when trying to clear a ball forward from a pack.

Think LDU has the best hands.

Dow has clearly the better contested possession numbers. Dow is also the fastest.

LDU and Cerra are bigger bodied than Dow.

For me, Cerra is very vanilla. LDU appears laid back. I'm starting to get the impression that Dow just wants it more.

I believe LDU and Dow have a greater upside than Cerra.

Well, that's almost word for word of what Jake Niall said on AFL tonight.

What I took away from his report on Fox was that;

1) Brisbane view Rayner as the number 1 kid in the draft, while other clubs view Dow as the best kid. And he said that is from speaking to the clubs.

2) Brisbane will seriously consider trading their pick.

What I read in to this report if taken at face value, is that Brisbane isn't enamoured with the perceived top and talent in this years draft and may feel they can get a player of near equal capabilities in the later part of the top 10 or even in the latter part of the first round.

I wonder if they would trade our first pick for a 2018 first round pick.
The exact quote from the Jake Niall article regarding us trading our pick was this: "The Lions have indicated that they would be willing to trade their first pick — 1 or 2 — for what they deem to be an exceptional deal."

Take note of the "exceptional deal" part. Haven't the club said pretty much the exact same thing the past two years? All clubs with high draft picks say they are willing to trade it to try and get other clubs to bid for it. Highly unlikely we'll get what the club considers to be an "exceptional" offer though.

Interesting that Niall is reporting that we view Rayner as the pick of this years bunch. The club will do their due diligence and if they deem him an unsuitable fit, perhaps due to flight risk concerns then we may try and actively seek a trade. If the club do really like Rayner though I reckon Noble and Co. will back themselves in to draft him.

I couldn't see them doing it briz, who do you trade it to? Who is/are the club/s that you see as highly likely bottom 3 next year? We could trade with a club that surges up the ladder.

IMO a top 3 pick in the hand is worth more than a possible top 3 pick next year.
Genuinely not sure who I'd trade it to. Freemantle would be my gut feel.

Realistically it's hard to have an idea until after the trade period, and we see who are the new coaches at clubs.

Going in to this season, which clubs did most people pick as the bottom 3 clubs?

Yep, Dockers and Kangaroos would be my 2.

This year Lions, Blues and ???

Things I've "heard" this week.

Rayner has a preferred destination club. In a seperate discussion, Rayner is a Carlton fan. Put two and two together.

Paddy Dow is (possibly) a North Melbourne fan.

Vast majority of the top draft picks would. Those who aren't rated as highly would be more inclined to hope for a shot anywhere but those who are rated as top 10 prospects would all have a "preferred destination".

There's a fair bit of love for Dow now on this board. While he is certainly up there, I feel him and LDU are being a bit overated.

I still think the best two players in the draft are Rayner and Stephenson, with Cerra next. I really hope whatever we do in the draft we just pick the best player available. If that's Rayner, then back our coaching and welfare team in and hope he stays. We can't be picking the 4th or 5th best player just because there's some doubt he'll leave after 2 seasons.

Absolutely brilliant . Well done.

My concerns with Rayner are threefold.

1) Go home factor.

2) List fit.

Current modern day football suits Rayner as a forward down to a T, if you look at Richmond as an example, with one big mobile and athletic key forward and dynamic mid sized forward surrounded by a pack of smaller forwards.

We're not looking like going that route with our current forward set up. I could see Josh Walker, Hipwood and Rayner working. But that doesn't leave any room for Schache, other than injury reserve developing in the NEAFL.

I genuinely question Rayner developing the tank to play many/any midfield minutes.

3) Off field behaviour. Less than professional.

There are very strong rumours that Rayner is a bit of a party animal, and his off field behaviour may be a strong reason why he doesn't currently have a tank.

Where as you got other kids like Jack Higgins putting in the work to be as professional as possible.

I think Stephenson is a gun,but we must take a proven midfield talent first pick.Davies to me,is very slow, so its Dow,Rayner and Constable for me,all of who are demonstrating consistent improvement. Higgins,Spargo and Bailey in the next group ,the more players who run hard and break lines the better.

How do LDU and Cerra's contested possession numbers compare? Read somewhere that low CP numbers are not a good sign. IIRC Aish was poor in this area.

Get Paddy Dow, good burst of speed, clearance king. Cam Rayner to much of a risk for my liking could be the next dustin martin yes but could be nothing. Dow a solid player and can't see many negatives to him. Will slot in nicely to our midfield depth.

I'm a very big fan of Cerra. He mightn't have the pace of Dow or the size of LDU, but he has a few tricks up his sleeve and he does the basics very, very well. He just makes things look easy, a bit of a tough nut and has an excellent kick. Shows some Dayne Beams like qualities, I would love him at Brisbane along side Clugga, Berry and Witherden etc.

Yeah I really rate Cerra. Can see him developing into a Trent Cotchin type perhaps with superior goal kicking ability.

lol

Was doing a bit of reading/research, replying to a post on the trade and draft board, and turns out Kobe Tozer, under 16 academy KPF future prospect, is another Victorian born kid in our academy. From Geelong.

I think the Browndog was talking about him a couple of days ago as a future gun

Yeah, been a little bit of talk about Tozer from the U16 champs.

Genuinely looking for more info about which Lions academy kids were in the team, and I recall some one mentioning possibly the best QLD kid was a non academy kid from the Sunshine coast hinterland area.

Actually wouldn't have a problem if we tried making Ballenden a defender now. Really worried about our KPD stocks now with Skinner more likely to not work out in the AFL with his 3rd ACL (shit it sucks), Frost will be delisted at end of contract. We still have Andrews and McStay but we need depth.

Can't say I know much other than what I have seen in live streams this year but club also appears keen on Jack Payne as KPD.
