Dominating SANFL - didn't kick a goal or be named in the best players once in the 4 Colts games & 1 Reserves at SANFL level in 2017, that I can find. Youtube videos can be highly misleading. You also quoted he was ámongst the best players in the Academy Game v Northern Blues. Was not named in the best for that game either as I posted. Context is not relevant if what is being stated is incorrect. Unfortunately 2017 has been poor for Darcy including early form as correctly pointed out by Cotter. There is likely to be reasons for this I hope he can return to his best form - that of 2016.

I also took the opportunity to compare his Victorian namesake (that many get confused with), and how some of those that have been consistent during 2017 due to attributes can be overlooked for the more flashy types earlier in the draft.

I understand that the draft board tends to be your baby, but if I disagree with what has been posted & can show that to be the case especially to support someone that has taken time provide a different perspective (Cotter in this case) then I am not sure what the issue is.

I look forward to the Lions taking Sam Walsh over Isaac Rankine in 2018, as he is clearly the better all round footballer (& maybe just to see your reaction) ;).
Now you are arguing semantics.

Go back and read my comments. I never said Fogarty was named best on ground or named in the bests. I said Fogarty was one of the best on ground and had played some good games. You don't have to be named in the bests to be one of the best on ground. That very discussion was discussed recently on the Trade and Draft board in relation to the kids playing at TAC cup level etc. We've had so many discussions about this in regards to our own NEAFL team.

This is the video we discussed when looking at an early SANFL game. Yes it's a short highlight clip. Still shows what people were getting excited about with Fogarty. You want to criticise Fogarty, great. Go back and reread my post you originally had issue with, I was just replaying to another poster saying, don't forget Fogarty had a good start to the season before his injury which was before the U18 champs.

All you're doing is trying to point score and derail a discussion. You don't believe Fogarty played well before his injury, that's fine, I'll agree to disagree. Pity his season was derailed before we really got to find out how good he could have been this year.

Hahahahah, thought that this was gold. Many months before I posted about drafting substance over style. A hell of a long way to go for next year's draft crop but look forward to it. I haven't really taken to this year's group for some reason and do have a small group that I hope we draft but don't see any elite prospects. Hope I am wrong.

Strange for such a reported weak draft that the top end of the draft is so even with no clear number one.

Yep so the Eagles did you a favour and minimised your loss on our trade last year. If the pick stays at 12 and doesn't slide with F/S or academy selections then Port only won the trade by the equivalent of a 4th round pick.

Thought I'd take a look at last years trades now that we're guaranteed to finish 8th at absolute worst.

Trade with Brisbane & GC.

BEFORE DRAFT:
OUT - 2017 Pick 12 & 2016 Pick 67
IN - 2016 Pick 19 & 30.

Finish 7th - PORT'S NET GAIN VALUE = Pick 53

AFTER DRAFT: (Considering the positions lost due to Academy or F/S bidding, but still pending any 2017 shifting)
OUT - 2017 1st Pick + 2016 Pick 62
IN - Pick 21 & Pick 32

Finish 7th - PORT'S NET GAIN VALUE = Pick 67

Note in both scenarios Port wouldn't have used pick 62, so that would've made our net gain 3 to 6 picks higher for every finishing position.

That's an odd way of looking at things to say the least.
That's just from a Port perspective. I should've qualified it sorry. You'd need to look at your own IN and OUT vs draft point index I guess. For us though we come out on top with that trade because we had a good year, and if Pick 12 slides at all then every spot it slides is more value Port gained in the trade

Getting 3 & 16 for 2 & a couple of later round picks worked well last year. Wouldn't mind doing it again this year as we could still likely get Paddy Dow at 2/3 and also gain another mid to late first rounder.
At the end of the day i prefer Cam Rayner over Paddy Dow for what i believe we lack, that being a hybrid prospect. Someone who can play midfield as well as a general forward. In my opinion aerobic capacity can be developed and increased in a more professional environment, therefore becoming less of a issue in time. To me Cam Rayner is a special talent, who's skill set doesn't come along very often. Whereas, a Paddy Dow is easier to draft e.g. Luke Shuey, Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen. If Dow ran a 2.82 in 20m sprint which he doesn't (Dow - 2.92), then maybe. Finally, you should never draft for need. Bad Idea. The best player available should always be drafted regardless. A No.1 draft pick don't come along very often if ever (e.g. 1998 - Des Headland / 19 years ago). Appreciate the selection we have (Nick Riewoldt, Luke Hodge, Bryce Gibbs, Tom Scully, Lachie Whitfield & Jacob Weitering).

We turned Hanley into pick 12, can try to spin it however you like, we haven't lost on this trade.

Alex Witherden for starters. :thumbsu:
You will not find one Lions person stating we have lost on this one at this point.

Knock yourself out with the spin.

This. We got Witherden, you got SPP. Win - win. To try to chestbeat over a percieved 5% advantage is fairly immature, IMO.

It is interesting the whole 'hybrid' concept.

"I think we need to keep bolstering our midfield," Fagan said.

"Looking for that hybrid guy that can win it on the inside and spread.

"We should be able to find one of those at the top of the draft I would imagine."

Not a hybrid as a forward/mid, but a midfielder that can play inside and spread. Looking more so for a predominate midfielder not a part-time or some that can spend some time as a midfielder. When I originally read this I thought Dow & the subsequent intel that has been recently provided points to this. Dow does also hit the scoreboard obviously not to the extent of Rayner.

Enjoyed your summation as to your preference, and reasoning.
