Is this true?
If so, that sways me. From what I saw of the game today, he and LDU were standouts. I really liked what I saw of LDU - has great poise and disposal (apart from his shot at goal late in the last qtr). Stephenson just oozes class.
I also like Worpel.
Would a trade/draft period of Stephenson/LDU (pick 1), Worpel/Coffield (pick 12), Cameron (pick 18), Ballenden (35& 41) and Hodge (pick 73) be ideal? I'm assuming Rocky stays and we don't get a priority pick.

Need draft picks for Payne and Clayton also, probably need a few more pick 30-50s to get them all.

Draft watchers have suggested Clayton more likely a rookie and Payne 50+/rookie so we should be right

Didn't watch it, but it would be hard to see how these guys would go against Rayner, Dow considering they weren't out there. My reasoning is that we need a player who can extract it on the outside and has speed considering we are one paced. That put's Dow in 1 at my mind. However, Stephensen being able to go in the middle and extract it is also really good. Question marks on his kicking tho?

So it seems that both Dow and Stephensen are goal kicking midfielders. Gonna be hard for the recruiters but they have watched these guys since they were 16.
What about birthdays, who has the later birthday might meant here is more development than the other

Can the ball be extracted if it is already on the outside?

I can't see birthdates separated by mere months translating to more or less development. Maybe if one or the other started playing the game later in life then that could be more informative but I can't see it mattering much considering they're in the same draft year and in top 10 contention.

I'm warming to all of LDU, Dow or Stephenson. Would be happy with any one of them.

Ballenden could be a late 20s to 30s pick on this performance. Glad they r playing him down back.

Stephenson miles clear BOG. Has it all... skills, pace, run and goal sense.

To me, absolute standout for Pick 1. Can't believe there's a discussion to be honest.

Also really like the look of Lochie O'Brien (great kicking) and Aiden Bonar. Would definitely take Bonar if he was there at 12. Great tackler, can run and kicks goals.

Ballenden just terrible though. I would be shocked if he had to pay a top 20 pick for him. Done absolutely nothing, forward and back.

Thats what a well informed contact has told me about Ballenden

Yep he is 189cm as well so will be a nightmare when resting up forward with his athletic ability combined with his ability to take a mark and crumb a goal. 189cm, athletic forwards who are hard to match up on both in the air and at ground level are very handy players to have in your side but when you also consider that he can win the footy on the inside and outside in the midfield and has elite pace to run and carry it is no wonder he is firmly in top 3 contention. Has a fair bit of physical development left in him as well.

I think we'll have a terrific player on our hands no matter who we select with pick 1 out of the usual suspects(Rayner, Stephenson, LDU, Dow and Cerra).

Like that summary....have always liked Stephenson ,and he has exactly what we need.Dow has interior support at the club,but Stephenson just continues to improve in all areas and has the most match winning ability.

Agree with you on Payne. Mid 50s to rookie selection. Personally will be surprised if Jack Clayton is drafted... only came into our grand final side as an emergency when Hammer did his hamstring, Others ahead of him and doesn't particularly fulfill our needs. Rolls was better last year and didn't get drafted.

Despite the notion that we would like to "back ourselves" with our recruiting, it (ie the kid being a supporter) surely has to be a factor

I think the last couple of finals series have really showed the importance of having quick players that can chase, tackle and harass. While I assume we'll continue to target skilled two-way players with our early picks, I really hope we go after some fast players with a defensive mindset a bit later on, particularly if we don't get Cameron.

If last years draft was anything to go by, I wouldn't be surprised if we draft LDU #1 with the hope of getting Clark and/or Bonar with our later picks. Would be pretty pleased if that were the case

It'll be interesting to see which way we go at number 1. But would be very happy to get two of Brayshaw, Clark, Zac Bailey or Worpol with 12 and 18. Clark put up 16 tackles in one of the last games and I do really like Bailey's attack on the ball/man and isn't slow either.

Dogs and now Tigers have shown a different way of winning the GF with constant pressure/tackling and having a smaller team you would say. Still a big believer that it's a lot about winning contested ball and think that it's not only the midfielders that need to win contested ball but all players now. Thus the names I've put up who are players that can win their own ball.
