So pick 1:

There a probably 5 players still in the calculations for it. My order of them and this has changed a bit over the last few months is. Stephenson, Dow, Cerra, LDU and Rayner. It's a toss of a coin for me between Steph and Dow but I see Steph as being more unique in this draft type wise. I think we could get a player with similar attributes to Dow be that not as high talent in z.bailey and t.kelly later in the draft. I think Steph had answered the doubts on his contested footy with the end of the season switch to midfield. Cerra dispite being my also being my first choice a couple of months ago and what's not to like about him. I think we can pick up similar types to him again with later picks. Brayshaw being my next choice in that similar type.

Pick 12:

Depends a lot on who we take pick 1. If we go Steph I would take either Brayshaw or Higgins here if either are still available. Probably with a slight preference to Brayshaw as I believe we could get another handy small forward later in the draft in say a miers or sambono.

Pick 18:

Here I am going for one of Bonar, Bailey, Kelly or Worpel. Probably in that order if all available.

Match a pick before our next at 41 for Ballenden, take/match Payne with last live pick and grab Sambono in the rookie draft.

This would give us a draft haul of
Stephenson
Brayshaw
Bonar
Ballenden
Payne
sambono (R)

Covers all our areas of need and adds much needed xfactor players.

His disposal is overplayed. He wins as much contested ball as Dow and Rayner. If he was a pure outside type, then you'd be worried about it.
What about clearances? The good thing about Dow is that he can get the ball and burst out of stoppages. How is Stephenson's burst speed and clearance winning ability?

So NBA players just choose not to test?

I had a feeling that there's a rule that requires afl players to do the tests here?
Pretty much.

It started, what a decade or more a go now, where the top 2 or 3 kids in the draft stopped doing testing or participating in scrimmages and draft combine games. Then they would only work out for one or two teams of their choices. And it has snow balled from there. Kids (and their agents) won't hand over their medical tests to teams they don't want to be drafted by, or won't work out for them.

These days, most of the kids rated in the top 30 don't test. Some who are borderline or really want to move up the draft do test.

There's also so much more surrounding the major US sports, where there are opportunities for people to make serious coin off the athletes or make a living from scouting etc.

Ballenden has showed some good signs and I really like his kicking. But for a big guy really struggles to get involved in the play. For the Enright side Hayes and Oscar Allen were very lively, Balladen was almost spectating.

I think he's got a future but surely no team is bidding for him that early. Project player for sure

Yeah I wonder about Ballenden mostly because he was basically the size he is now when he was 16. He dominated then and was early tipped as a high draft pick but its basically been a slide ever since with not much settling on a position. The Lions will take him for sure and so they should but it will be interesting to see how they develop him further.

We all know that his highlights are something else but was really happy to hear about his defensive pressure being so good. Really, really warming to Rankine. Imagine he and Hippy running around the forward 50 together.
Yeah, that is what I hoped people would pick up on. Imagine adding Charlie Cameron and Rankine as two of our small forwards who can play down the wings and play on the ball as well.

A lot of the proverbial water to pass under the bridge but where to others see Rankine going in the 2018 draft?
Nearly all draft watchers have him top 5... but as you said a lot can happen between now and then. Only time I can recall that the 'best' 17 year old gets taken at number 1 in his draft year is David Swallow.

With Rocky seemingly gone, I think Miles would definately be a good fit. I know he couldn't really break into the Tigers 22 this year, but not sure how highly they rate him. Is it realistic for a scenario of Close - Collingwood, Miles-Brisbane, Collingwood's 4th rounder (54) - Richmond?

I think Richmond might want more than that

Teams that could finish below us next year could all use a quality young KPF and are unlikely to secure one in this years trade/draft period.

North - Who supports Ben Brown going forward?
Carlton - Busy adding mids and getting their defence sorted. Casbolt is hardly quality, McKay is developing and Sos jnr is more third tall.
Freo - A few reasonable talls on the list but none standing out. McCarthey seems to be more of a second or third tall.
Gold Coast - Reasonable chance of losing Lynch next year. Only 2m Peter remains as a genuine KPF.

With the King Bro's and Lukosius rated so highly we may be a chance of Rankine even if we have a good year next year and finish 14th or so.

I'd be pretty stoked if we finished outside the bottom 4 and got Walsh.

I keep hitting the "Like" button .... but it only shows as like x 1 ..... what am I doing wrong ...??????

Would be upgrading Hammelmann with the last pick. Is more mobile and better below the knees than Payne. Suits the way the game is going. Sambono is a good option for a small forward, but I don't think he'll last to the rookie draft.
