No academy prospects?

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
No highly rated ones that I am aware of yet. There were three QLD kids playing in the U17 all star last Friday that I am aware of, and one was a Brisbane academy kid, Tom Matthews. Caleb Graham and Bailey Scott both belong to Gold Coast's academy.

Gold Coast have Bailey Scott and Sydney have Nick Blakey in their academies. Bulldogs have FS kid Rhylee West and NGA kid Buku Khamis, North have NGA kid Tarryn Thomas, Hawthorn have NGA kid Irving Mosquito. From what I have read, these are the higher rated academies and FS kids at this stage in next years draft.

Seems as though half the Victorian teams now have more 'academy' players to develop and choose from than we do.
Not really. Just a few more talented ones.

Looking at next year, North can walk away from the draft with two top 10 talents, their first pick probably in the top 4, and then match a bid on Tarryn Thomas (who is moving to Melbourne for his last year of school).

Sydney's 2018 first round pick may be available in trade if they look like "losing" it having to match a bid for Blakey. Blakey has a decision to make whether he nominates for Sydney or North Melbourne (or Brisbane, but seriously unlikely).

I just think it's total shit. They've been running this program for not even a year?, have invested a fraction of what we have for access to more talent that have been brought up with AFL as the premier code.

Personally, I do not have a problem with most of it.

There is some blurring of the lines in regards to the definition of who qualifies as a multicultural kid for the NGA's.

Yes, there are some kids such as Tarry Thomas, who probably shouldn't be part of the academies in next years draft, but realistically it will still be a few years before we see a genuine impact on the draft stocks, and hopefully like the Northern clubs, the Vic clubs can turn around and say, look we've invested 5 years worth of development in to these kids.

I do not know anything about our academy, how much money and time we put in to our academy, but we have had access to some of the best young QLD athletes for the better part of half a decade now, our academy should be producing more highly rated kids than it currently does. The main thing that I keep coming back to is that our junior competitions currently don't have the depth and strength to push the development of the top kids.

There's a draft combine video on AFL.com.au where they interview Conole briefly. He was asked a question about LDU and Rayner being top-end prospects, which he answered but then he also threw some other names into that conversation. The names were Dow, Cerra and Brayshaw, who probably hasn't been included in that 1-5 range like the aforementioned lads.

I think the most interesting thing for me is that Conole didn't mention Stephenson and took a while to think of the 5th player (Brayshaw). Makes you think we've got it down to Dow, Cerra, Rayner and LDU.

I hope so because I really rate Stephenson and would be happy taking him at pick 1. Out of that bunch he looks to be the one that could break a game open. But also whats the use in being tricky, we've got pick 1.

There's always the chance we trade pick 1 for 2-4 plus something if we're keen on Stephenson, so some subterfuge is just hedging our bets. My personal preference is Dow.

Unless of course we are thinking about trading Pick 1 down.

FWIW I'm on the Stephenson bandwagon too

I must admit to not knowing much about the kids but from watching the Allstar game it is a no brainer on Stephensen and Bonar.....OMG Bonar could be another Fyfe.......so impressive.

Would be upgrading Hammelmann with the last pick. Is more mobile and better below the knees than Payne. Suits the way the game is going. Sambono is a good option for a small forward, but I don't think he'll last to the rookie draft.
So want Bonar!!!!! I cant see the point in both Hammelmann and Ballendan both being on the same list.......identical. More upside to Ballendan so I think he would be my pick. I would also be happy to welcome Payne to the rookie or senior list coz I think, in years to come, will be a beast and scare the bejeavers out of the forwards. Mindful we have to fit Hodge n maybe ..............

Chug one of these. You won't be able to get through an episode of Archer without 'da urges'...

Really torn between Dow and Stephensen. Looked at a few more Youtube clips and the thing that l keep looking at is Stephensen's disposal. They aren't good from what l have seen. Dow's isn't great but still better imo. While Stephenson might have more x-factor, there is just something about Dow that l think will be a Lion next year, over stephensen and the rest
