How many VM players currently on our list?

If LDU is practically VM we may be more inclined to draft Dow

I am going to dispute LDU is practically VM, & I understand you are taking this from previous posts.

Rye is close enough to 100kms from Melbourne CBD. If anyone can drive that in an hour they are doing so with a full police escort, 1.5 hours in normal traffic conditions & far longer at peak. 50 minute drive from Rye to Dandenong.

While it's full time residency has increased over time, there still is a significant amount of holiday houses in the area. I live in an outer eastern suburb & our population is at least 3 times of that of Rye.

Have ranted enough on demographics, but the whole Rye is metropolitan Melbourne thing is flawed. If LDU is selected by a Melbourne based club aside from possibly St Kilda & Hawthorn he will not be based at Rye & will need to move to Melbourne.

I live in Rosebud.... Next door to Rye. One of the very few lions supporters down here.

You are right..... 45-50 minutes to Dandenong. 1.5 hours to the city easily.
This is not apart of Melbourne in any way.

This end of the peninsula is a coastal township

You're not the only one! Agree as a first year player with the demands of 6 day a week training he will be moving to Melbourne, unless he signs with the Saints. Would have to dispute you on the travel time though.. I do it every day into South Yarra and it's an hour on average

I would love this draft.

Funny observation I have noted is the apparent given that Vic Country boys will not want to 'go home' because they don't have one. Especially for the Stingrays.. Dandenong is a suburb of Melbourne and everyone who plays for them will live in Melbourne itself or down the coast like LDU does, which is still essentially Melbourne (1hr on freeway from Rye to central Melbourne).. I would think kids from this area are just as likely to wanna go home as Vic Metro boys.
Anyone half sane wouldn't want to live in Dandenong. I'm a footballer............get me out of hereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

you guys are bonkers.. I live in Burwood (South East Suburbs of Melb) and often drive Portsea/return and from start of Peninsula link I get home in 1hr, 10mins.. so maybe I took 20mins off for Central Melb but it is not unrealistic to say that area can be counted as Melbourne. Especially if it is simply for the purpose of being 'close' to family.

All ballenden has to do in interviews with other clubs is say 'i love queensland and im very close to my family' and he will be left alone. The go home factor just doesnt affect us.

Big Connor hit a perfect score on the kicking challange last night at the combine. The only player to do so.

Also hit 4 out of 5 goal kicking set shots.

There is a couple of us down this way. Could become the second home of the Lions:p

Would love the club to somehow get that number 1 pick to number 2 or 3 so we can still get Paddy Dow and a bit of a bonus.. Rayner or LDU will be one and two if we aren't top 2. Dow a must for us.

Good to see Jack Higgins doing well in the kicking test too. Some critics say he gets a lot of short dinky kicks not to advantage. I actually think he is better than that by foot including on his left. Interestingly Clark was also seen as needing to improve his disposal but maybe the increased time in midfield has improved him. Earlier in the year off half back he tended to spray it a bit.

Welcome to Brisbane Cam Rayner.

The Lions have had issues with top draft selections wanting to return home to Victoria in the past, but Rayner said that would not be the case with him if he made the move north.

"I don't think that's in my make-up, I feel if I was to go to a club you'd want to get the best out of the club and the best out of the player," he said.

"I've been wanting to play footy since I was a little kid so I would move halfway across the world to play."

Apparently Bonar has equalled the standing vertical jump record. Lot to like about him, big, powerful, athletic and apparently very hard worker off field. Where would he be going if he hadn't had those issues with that knee? Is he a reach at 12?

Jaidyn Stephenson being interviewed: only clubs he's presently spoke to at the combine is us and the Dogs.

I would be happy to hear Rayner's name read out as first pick. I think he would wear the resulting pressure of being no.1 pick well, and looks to have the x factor I think a good team needs.

From what I've heard Rayner isn't really on our radar. We've built quite an incredible culture at the club under Fagnob. It's not only the quality of the player but the quality of the character that is now equally important in our drafting & trading decisions. Unfortunately Rayner does not fit. I will be surprised if we end up with pick 1 and we don't take LDU.
