Yeh fair enough. No doubt rayner is the best in my book. Interestingly i watched rayners interview at the combine and said he is happy to go anywhere so at the moment he doesnt seem like a flight risk however that can change after a few yrs. It's a tough one. As you can see, there are a few fan favourites on the board. Dow and LDU and Stephensen probably the big ones.
That said, last Road to the Draft podcast, Twomey was saying that Rayner is clear best player in the draft, and the conversation around other prospects being "in the mix" was more about media trying to build some suspense, or people trying to talk themselves out of it. In recent years, of course, Twomey has generally been pretty accurate as far as his top-end predictions have gone. I'd imagine that if the club goes best available, we'll take Rayner. If we don't, it'll be that we had genuine concerns around his go-home factor.
Club has come out and said they'll take best available, but they also said they'd hang on to Schache unless they got a fair deal, so you take what they say with a grain of salt.
I suppose it comes down to the club read, but even then - intention and action are different things. I don't think anyone doubts Schache intended to be a one club player, and from all accounts, he really wanted to be drafted to Brisbane. Only after you get here do you know how a player will actually react.Yeh fair enough. No doubt rayner is the best in my book. All ballenden had to say in his interviews with other clubs is i love qld and im very close to my family and the southern clubs will leave him alone. He must know hes a cert to be taken by us so he has no need to worry about impressing the evil south.

If you visit the AFL Draft Central website you can find that information on their October top 35 big board. What are the Weight and Height of LDU, Rayner and Dow ?
As Noble said, draft for 'talent' trade for 'need'.It's a tough one. As you can see, there are a few fan favourites on the board. Dow and LDU and Stephensen probably the big ones.

If true to word, Cam Rayner is the best talent in the draft crop and still has room to grow his game.
We need to start to back ourselves in and draft the best talent. We need another Akka someone who will feed off the atmosphere at the Gabba and get bums on seats.

So whom do we pick at 1/15/18? I would pick UDL/Bonar if there and Allen.I don't think it's as simple as that. You can't deny work ethic and you can ignore deficiencies. Liam Ryan being an example.
We need we'll rounded midfielders like Berry IMO. You can't draft too many Cluggs who struggles to win his own footy or Matho who's a poor kick, has poor endurance and is unaccountable or Keays who's a terrible kick, slow and lacks composure.
Unless there's likely to be a Berry at 15 or 18 I'd like to go a safer choice with our first pick. Especially after the Schache saga there's now a whole extra layer to a draft prospect there must be a focus on especially when it comes to early picks put simply maturity and not just giving the right answers.
Freemantle is the real wild card, it's so hard to know who they would take at pick 2. And pick 5. Realistically the top rated W.A. kid Aaron Naughton is rated closer to 20 than 10 on most big boards. They're going to have to draft at least one, if not two Victorian kids, and face the inevitable go home issues in a couple of years time.

Rayner for me. Great defensive game aswell as the flashy stuff. Only need to improve the tank which I think should be possible.Yeah, you got me.
I'm changing my vote

Especially this bit
"I supported the Brisbane Lions growing up but I trained at North Melbourne for two weeks and enjoyed it there so they're probably my preferences, but I'm sure they're all pretty similar anyway," he said.
"I always wanted to play for them [Brisbane] so [going interstate] doesn't really bother me.

Can see Collingwood bidding on Ballendon at 6 just because they can.

UDL for me as i think he is the most comolete genuine midfielder. Rayner might have better natural talent, but he isnt a mid in the mold of LDU. LDU also a tallish mid which we need. 15 will be the tricky one, will depend how the draft unfolds, who slides and who we rate. I wouldnt mind taking a punt on Bonar here if no one does before hand.
We have said we pick our players, be it draft or trade by talent and character. We have also said we want to bolster our midfielder and will be targeting mids in the draft. We also see Cameron as a midfielder.
