Hey eth-dog, do you see any decent inside mids slipping to our picks 15 and 18? Hopefully Naughton, Hayes and Brander get taken in the top 14 and 1 or 2 slide to us.

Ideally 2 really good inside mids at 1 and 15 and if 1 not available at 18 I'll have everything crossed that Lochie O'Brien slides to us at 18. A bit similar to last year, I was on tender hooks last draft night, I was hoping for McCluggage at 3 then Berry at 17 and then Witherden at 23, got the wish last year, hopefully I can go back to back.:)
I'm hoping Constable slips.

I have heard of him although I haven't watched any highlights/TAC games of him, I just read a few reviews of him and sounds really good, I'll have to go and have a look at some vision. Sounds a bit like Lachlan Fogarty, who would you prefer out of those two?

Haven't seen L Fogarty but Bailey has Mitch Robinson level attack on the footy and a burst of speed away from stoppages.

Hopefully with pick 18 we use that pick for someone like Bailey or Kelly. Both would help immensely with our stoppage and clearance work not to mention will have the pace to defend on the fast break. Hurts seeing opposition players run off with a Lion trailing by a few metres losing ground.

You don't think Tim Kelly would be a reach at 18 SM? If Bailey, Kelly, L.Fogarty were available there who would you go for?

All this chat about player x is less likely to leave because of this... player y has a better retention factor is complete rubbish...

Excluding last years draft (as it's to be determined). We have lost ALL our first rounders from the past 15 seasons, except Mayes and Rich (Paparone doesn't count). Why did they stay? Because they both got significantly better contracts than back home.

Based on the facts, none of us can guess who will stay. The reality is the vic clubs are in these players ears about coming home before they are even drafted up here.

In my view Dow and LDU aren't in the same class as someone like Rayner, so let's pick the most talented player, offer them a massive contract and hope they stay.

Kelly probably. Midfielder with great pace, agility and the ability to hit the scoreboard has a bit of McLeod about him. I reckon Eagles will draft him with one of their picks in the 20s so probably not much of a reach. The only knock on Kelly is that he will be 24 next year and he has only really taken the next step in his development this season...

Will admit though I have not seen a live Tim Kelly game and only going from his highlights... but to finish runner up in the Sandover is a great result.

It might depend on which other prospects are available around 18, if someone high on our draft board slips e.g. Hunter Clark we'd probably go with him but if not I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft Tim Kelly with pick 18. Noble stated we are looking to add quality midfielders in the age 21-25 bracket which Kelly fits, we supposedly showed interest in him according to an article on the WAFL and his playing style would compliment our current midfield mix really well. As you touched on he is a contested ball winning mid with pace and good foot skills and he has shown an ability to make an impact on the scoreboard. He could be the next mature aged star pick up e.g. Barlow/Zorko.

We're probably taking 6 picks to the draft with the stated intention of taking three mids with the first three picks.

Was this a stated intention? I know Noble talked about recruiting mids but was he this specific? I can't recall the exact wording used.

We have been talking to Oscar Allen a bit and are apparently pleased with his interviews. Something you would not expect if we were definitely taking 3 mids with our first 3 draft picks.

Unless we want him at pick 18 and see him developing in a different position then it is an odd choice.

We don't know what Fagans, Noble and Doms list management direction is. Hard to say it's an odd choice just yet. I mentioned earlier they might see Oscar playing the Lynch role that Noble viewed first hand at the Crows. He's arguably their most important player. Who knows?

I think the addition of Cameron will see us select LDU or Dow with pick 1 instead of Rayner. I don't think there will be room for Cameron, Rayner, Zorko, Taylor, Christensen to all play the fwd/mid role. Zorko might make a permanent move into the midfield but I would be reluctant to change his role.

Exactly my point - I can't see us recruiting him if we see him as a kpp. Definitely could see him in a Lynch type role. He's 193 cms from memory right?

I have read and watched a lot of stuff since the end of our season but IIRC I am sure Fagan and Noble when asked have said we would be using earlier selections to go after mids. The fact that we ended up with picks 1, 15 and 18 then no further selection until the 40s would support this idea, IMO it's pretty transparent that we are hoping for 3 top end selections (mids?) then to match Ballenden although I am sure we could be factoring in all possible scenarios, see below.
The last thing we need is another tall forward although he does look impressive. You would think Fremantle Pies or Ricmond would snap him up
We have de listed Jono Freeman, traded Schache and there is a possibility Hammelmann and Close could also go via de listing, Ballenden will be an in and possibly Payne, our recruiters might see us as still 1 tall short.

I would still be surprised though if we went Allen at 18 unless every mid we rated was gone by that stage, could possibly happen if the clubs expected to go for Naughton, Brander and Allen go mids instead before us. I actually like Noah Balta if we are going to go in that direction at 18.

He is on the smaller side for a KPP but IIRC he has a great aerobic capacity and loves to run the lines and lead up the ground. I have not seen him play but he did win the Larke medal which is a good sign.

Im not suggesting it doesn’t make sense. But supposition becomes fact really quickly at this time of year so I think it’s important to be accurate about what is stated vs what is inferred.

Sticky fingers n a bit of attitude........I like him. Wouldn't classify him as a tall........mobile and agile.

Noble said we would know by Friday on how many spots we will have so a sleepless night for Hammel, Close, Beams, Eagle and I think he said we have to chop Cian to get him back on the rookie list.
If we draft Conner and Jack Payne, we will have to many talls with question marks over them.
Oscar, Archie, Close, Matt H, Matthew Eagles, I feel two of these must go
If we think Payne has more upside than Matt H then we keep Eagles
If we think Conner has more upside than Archie then Archie goes
I would like Oscar to replace Close
