A little snippet of Darcy Fogarty's first SANFL League game over the weekend.

I was going to go to that game, but stayed & watched the power game instead...

I'll keep an eye on him during the year, think I won't make the same mistake again, be prioritising glenelg over brisbane from now on

Shit son he's making grown men look like boys. That fend off and kick out the back hit the top of the goal square perfectly. An AFL forward would've taken that cleanly on the chest, pretty impressive little snippet.

Did you like the commentary on that play? They must have a longer meters down in South Australia.

Thought i read a quote from him in an interview where he said something along the lines of he learnt how to play using his size and strength seems he was big but not very fast. He wont be that much bigger then other guys at AFL level, but when you know how to really use your size and strength, you can still do it to blokes the same size or even bigger then you.

Spargo,a multiple goal scoring b.o.g for M G S against Xavier.I thought he was a stand out last year...very fast ,hard and smart,a natural....will be there at the finish.Excellent breeding.
And importantly, no longer tied to GWS.

We'll take Darcy Fogarty thanks. Our club needs a big bodied, talented, ready to go, competitive, contested beast.
What about outside mid and out of the back run and gun pace lionshine? Would love Fogarty but if there is a run and carry type player eg. Raynor/LDU/O'Brien rated near him I think I would go with the pace and run and carry. I think Berry/Matheison may be able to fill the inside bull role.

Rayner and LDU I wouldn't describe as pacey/run and carry players. Rayner and LDU aren't slow mind you, however, they are bigger bodied contested players like Fogarty. As for Fogarty v O'Brien, I rate O'Brien highly, however, we have too many skinny outside wing/flanker types as it is. I want a pure, big bodied contested beast.

See where you're coming from, I just think it sticks out like you know what that we lack run and carry all over the field, we need line breakers IMO, got nothing out of the back half most of the season.

One of each would be good Fogarty with pick 1+ O'Brien with our PP?

We have so many holes to fill. Can only pick one player at each pick. Fogarty, Rayner, LDU and O'Brien are all different types of players. Really need to hope we get to use Ports pick instead of having to use it to match a bid on Ballenden.

I'll be the first to say it, if Schache will net us a second top 5 pick, I would seriously consider it. I'm just not seeing the desire, application, hunger with Schache. He might have the physical gifts/talent, but he's not displaying the other qualities expected.

I agree he is not showing it ATM but it can come. I still see a huge upside in Schache, 2nd year key forward with just as good as if not better record than the vast majority of KPFs at the same stage of their careers.

Terrible idea mate. You have to give the young blokes time. We can't keep replacing talented young kids with other talented young kids. It takes us nowhere. What happens in 2 years time when the player you select with the pick we got for Schache is lacking desire/application/hunger? Do we trade him as well for yet another draft pick?

Don't get me wrong I think we need run and carry desperately. I think we should aim to address this with other other picks though starting with Port's pick. For our first pick I want one of the bigger bodied, ready to go contested beasts e.g. Darcy Fogarty/Cameron Rayner/Luke Davies-Uniacke. Still early stages though, young prospects will rise and fall.

Say an article that said Nick Blakey is favouring us under father son ahead of the Roos and the swans ! Bit of a shock if that is true ! What's he go like ?

He sounds like a great third tall forward/ utility.

I was as frustrated as others by Schache's output today and expressed this in his thread. However I've also expressed that we do need to keep him (just don't want to sell the farm). There was a snapshot in the game that our best 5/6 players (points wise) for this year are all our older players which is a concern in some part. Not to repeat like a broken record but this is because of the departures we suffered a number of years ago. I think that we'll get pick 1 which I'm not overly happy about either but this could possibly be used to move back a couple of spots to get a couple of more picks in the upper part of the draft. Inside/outside mids we need them both but who ever we draft needs to be tough/take no prisoners type. Fogarty does looks like that type of a player just hope we get another couple of hard nuts i.e. Worpol.

How is this draft crop shaping up?
Early days but some really exciting prospects. There are three big bodied, tall, contested ball winning midfield prospects in Darcy Fogarty, Cameron Rayner and Luke Davies-Uniacke who at this very early stage are rated in the top 5 of this years prospects.

Darcy Fogarty is 193cm, capable of playing as a 3rd tall/smaller KPP at both ends of the ground but has also played through the midfield and could become a tall, modern day midfielder in the mould of Fyfe/Cripps. He's very competitive, already got an AFL ready body, strong, consistently breaks tackles, he's got a good, powerful kick. Definitely one to watch heading into the U18 championships. SA boy.

Cameron Rayner is 190cm, he reminds me of Christian Petracca. Tall, strong, but powerful. He has that burst of pace that allows him to win the contested footy, burst away from the pack and get the ball moving his teams way. He's also very dangerous up forward with strong hands and he's a good kick for goal. Capable of kicking bags of goals. Another one with an AFL ready body and he has a fend off that Dusty Martin would admire. Probably my favourite player in this years draft. Vic Metro boy.

Luke Davies-Uniacke is 187cm, he's a tall, strong midfielder and has drawn comparisons with the Swans Josh Kennedy. He has good disposal and he has a bit of a burst of pace as well. Really clean hands. Again, he could play Round 1 of next year with an AFL ready body. Vic Country boy.

I really like all three of these guys and I think we'd be doing well to add one of these guys to our list. Will have to wait and watch the U18 series unfold but these three are three to watch once the U18 carnival rolls around.

Not happy because you don't like finishing last, or not happy because you don't like the player/s rated as the top prospect/s.

Not sure if we could trade pick 1 for a top 5 and a top 10 pick.

My fear is that Ballenden will be bid on early and require both Ports pick and fair chunk of points from our second round pick, pushing it a fair way down.
