with our list getting better and being able to imagine our future finals team I would prefer our salary cap spent on one A plus player than two A minuses
Could end up that way although if history is anything to go by the number 1 selection rarely ends up the best player in the draft. We wont know for a few years how it unfolds LDU or Dow v Brayshaw + Cerra, anybodies guess ATM.

Petrucelle is lightning quick. Would be an asset off half back. Like Hunt from Melbourne.

We already have Cedric but another who I would prefer to Petrucelle is Jake Patmore from WA. Very quick and elusive and has a much better football brain than Petrucelle. Needs to tidy up his skills as well but they are better than Petrucelle's.

Now that we have no depth in the forward big man ranks, could Todd Elton be a lifeline option for us with late pick in draft or delisted free agent. If walker or Hipwood go down we have nothing in reserve. I know we will have Ballendon but I'll be surprised if he plays 10 games in his first year. He looks very promising but will take time.

No chance

Putrucelle... he's fast but he isn't a footballer. In saying that however, genuine line breaking pace can make anyone a dangerous threat. Essendon, Tigers, even the Suns had a few C graders who regularly tore a team apart due to their pace. I think it would at least make opposition more accountable... which can impact their natural structures a bit.

Who do you think we might bring in as mature backup? What's put there?

We don’t need any, we got rid of blokes far better than Elton
If injuries come we throw Archie down there or McStay and then bring in Eagles down back
Team now is getting cleaned up with far less list cloggers than previous years and you want to bring in another one.
It won’t happen, we suck it up and play small if we have to this year.

You doing a phantom or power rankings this year Quigley? If not on the D,T&FA board a slimmed down version just for us on Lions BF?:)

I have not had time this year to dedicate to watching the amount that I usually do so am not going to do a mock this year.

I will give an opinion on the guys we take though.

Agreed -- what do you think about drafting someone like Allen with 18?

I hope we don't get injuries to multiple key forwards, or we'll be playing Ryan Lester at FF We probably won't bring anyone onto the senior list but I'd say we'll use the rookie draft to find a mature backup key forward.

Totally agree we'll use our picks on mids, think it might look something like this.
#1 Rayner
#15 Clarke/Fogarty
#18 O Brien/Ling
#match bid Ballendon
#last pick Oscar Baker

Do u think Eddy from Port would be worth a rookie spot mate? Just got delisted.

1 year on the rookie list in his home state?
Maybe just not cut out for the workload!
Bit like Johnno Freeman. Bit of a step up from the State leagues.

The rest look good I would like A Bonar to be around 15 mix
OBrien I have been a fan of watching him since last year
Payne for late pick also

Not sure Eddy is a legitimate AFL level player and is a bit late in his career to make that jump. Elton (rich) Clarke (freo) I thought could be options perhaps for rookie list.
Yeah I had him sitting on my supercoach bench for the whole season. Thought he would play a few more games than he did last year. From memory I thought he had previously been on an AFL list? Seems to go pretty well at reserves level, but maybe not AFL standard. Can't see Clarke as a forward option, more suited to #1 ruck role IMO, but don't know a lot about Elton

Elton was very good for Richmond in the VFL late in the season and played some good AFL games early this year. He's taken a fair while to look like he can handle AFL, he's shown that this year and I was a bit shocked he's been delisted especially considering lack of talls at Richmond. Look it's not a high priority for us to find another key tall but we definitely are one short I think going into next season even after we pick up Ballendon so am trying to get my head around who might be an option for us in the rookie draft who could step in and play if injuries strike.

The smokey I was thinking of at 18 is Ryan, he won't last til our later pick and if we do take Rayner/Dow and another mid at 15, we might take Ryan at 18. He seriously could be anything playing deep forward alongside Hippy.

Payne for rookie draft Perhaps

I'd be massively shocked if he went in the rookie draft. He had some great games towards the end of the year and tested really well in the combine. Still think we've done a good job keeping him from the limelight.

"Gimme a break?" ... settle down
Why would they give a team a free player to choose from when they know we will bid. WCE and Sydney both have picks in the 2nd round and wouldn't put it past Adelaide and richmond bidding even tho we have traded with them. Certainly not out of the realms of possibility of it happeneing at 15 or 18. They know we will accept a bid just like Hippy last year so they might force us to bid so they can get a better chance of player at their round

I think you highly over rate the effect what we do has.on teams rectuiting. They select the player they feel best fits their requirements.
