Agreed -- what do you think about drafting someone like Allen with 18?
I'll tell u what BB, if character is a trait that we rate very highly, then Oscar would be one of the top of our list. Just watched his short draft interview again and was really bloody impressive. Loved his attitude, maturity and overall outlook on the game. Really couldn't fault that interview. Particularly liked his response about whether he would like to stay in WA. I suppose the main question is does he fill a need? I'd prefer to draft mids with our first 3 pics, but wouldn't bee too disappointed if we called his name out at 18.

I hope we don't get injuries to multiple key forwards, or we'll be playing Ryan Lester at FF We probably won't bring anyone onto the senior list but I'd say we'll use the rookie draft to find a mature backup key forward.
Not likely to happen, as given our commitments, we won't have many rookie spots.
Cat A: (4 spots) McInerney, Barrett, Hinge, and Claye Beams likely to take last spot here.
Cat B: (3 spots) Eagles, Hanley (committed to redrafting), one vacant spot. (Assuming we are no longer allowed an extra Cat B spot that we had this year for Eagles.)

Payne for rookie draft Perhaps
Possible that we take Payne as cat B, Qld zone selection in rookie draft, but if he's bid on after 52 (depending on where Ballenden is bid on and how far pick 44 slides back), then we might not have a pick to match a bid with. So if we're committed to Payne, we might have to take him with our last pick in the National draft. It's unlikely that there's another mature key forward that would qualify as a cat B rookie. We would need to take one in the national draft, but I don't think that's likely. Can't think of anyone who's better than the 3 we delisted.

Knightmare sees Constable being available at pick 15 wheras Clark will likely be gone. I'd be shocked if Constable made it to our pick but would take him in a heartbeat. Also said he sees O'Brian being available at pick 18.

That'd be awesome if we got those 2 with our later picks.

Draft day can't come soon enough

I have not had time this year to dedicate to watching the amount that I usually do so am not going to do a mock this year.

I will give an opinion on the guys we take though.

Quigs- who would you take at 1? And who do you think are realistic options at 15 and 18 that you'd like us to take?

Totally agree we'll use our picks on mids, think it might look something like this.
#1 Rayner
#15 Clarke/Fogarty
#18 O Brien/Ling
#match bid Ballendon
#last pick Oscar Baker
Big mistake if we dont take Payne.........also Twomey suggests Bonar going at pick 19..........brave man to let this bums on seats midfielder...... x factor pass 15.

Nunez, Nightmare has O'Brien going at 14. (In Phantom, has him at 18 in club needs, so I see where you're coming from). Twomey also has Constable available at 15. Don't know much about him, but will chase up some vision.

18 is the interesting pick... I really like what I've seen of Ed Richards, admittedly he played half back flank, but his run and decision making impressed me... think he could make it in the midfield or give us drive off half-back, if Witherden eventually plays midfield. I wonder if we'd take Zac Bailey at 18... love the speed and aggression, no go home issues, was great in the game the Allies won against Vic Metro? Country? we are meant to be into him.

I've got no clue how it will actually unfold and am only a casual draft observer, but at this stage this would be the dream scenario from my perspective:

#1 - Rayner
#15 - Constable
#18 - Bonar or O'Brien
#40 & #44 - Ballenden
#52 (if we get to use it) - Tim Kelly or Zac Bailey

His rankings not which pick they will go.

Yeah went off his club needs as the phantom draft is 20 days old and no doubt the predicted order is ever changing.

I'd be keen on Bailey. If we manage to get one of Constable or Clark and one of Bonar/Allen/O'Brien/Bailey I'd be thrilled.

Choco Williams on SEN today re the much hyped 2018 draft crop eg. Rankine, King twins, Lukosius, Hill, Walsh etc.

I've been around for a while and was involved in the putting together of the Power and Giants lists and this 2018 crop is just extraordinary, the best I've ever seen.

He may be right but as long as I've been paying attention to the draft (2008) the next one always has a few stand out players that give the impression that it is going to be better than the current one. 12 months ago the 2017 draft was being talked about as having lots of quality key position players and 1 month out from the draft apparently there is only a few in the top 30.

If next years for some reason ends up being one of the best drafts ever for top talent, at least we'll have a top 5 pick to use on one of them.

That’s great, we cant stuff it up then! Could we? I do look forward to the Walsh vs Rankine banter. Plus the couple that will come from nowhere. Also excited about the depth and eventhough we should be fairly guaranteed of a very good player I reckon our second pick will be very handy as well.

Just did some reading on Zac Bailey and he sounds impressive - and as you say no GHF

Would be a good pick up at 18 if O'Brien is gone

Bailey more of an inside mid... wins contested footy. I'd take him ahead of O'Brien. After Polec and also considering we have Cameron, Allison, McCluggage, Cutler, Taylor and Cox, I don't think we need outside players as much as players who win contested footy.

Why is he so special, with no GHF?

He is only quite small for a contested inside mid (180cm and 68kg)

Caleb Daniel (WB) is 168cm and 71 kg and he's played >50 games. If you can play footy, size doesn't matter that much and 180cm is fine for a small forward who runs through the midfield. Will put on some muscle in a couple of years. Certainly doesn't play small. Good riddance to our ill-fated running height policy, I say.
