I don't know how far south stingers go in QLD, but I was stung south of Perth. Long rash vests/suits can be worn yeah?

I spent most of my surfing life near the sharks down at Phillip Island but don't think I ever saw one

I think they are sometimes spotted in SEQ but mostly northern Qld. Read a story just this week about a guy that was attacked by a tiger shark - ripped out the sharks eye ball and survived

what do we think of Oscar Allen as a possible pick ? reckon he would compliment hippy just fine. seems a level headed kid , be a great get . had hoped for him and clark but that may be a huge ask

A must pick.........just saw his bit in AFL.com and he used the word innate.......that will confuse the crew. Seriously tho he looks the goods. I suspect he is genuine guy and I can just imagine Fages, Noble, Beams Zorks, Hodge n Lester molding him into Mr 100%. I think it is between him n Bonar. I am guessing only one will be there at 15.

I am intrigued by the Magpies. They have stated they didn't do much in the trade coz they know what they want in the draft. Obviously a tall I would imagine but would they go Brander/Naughton/Ballenden or Allen at 6? I have a sneaky suspicion that someone may go Payne earlier than expected. His type are fairly rare.

Dunno what the club is planning but I’d say yes to Allen if we took midfielders with our first two picks. If we took Rayner at pick 1 or a non-mid at 15, I think we’d want another midfielder at 18.

If Oscar Allen is there at 18 we'd have to take him surely? If he is gone than I would rather we take a high risk high reward type... Bonar is an example as someone who I think we should take the gamble on.

Allen will be gone by 18 my bet is eagles take him at 13 WA boy so also Bonar will got top 7 either pies or saints imo

There seems to be a few names coming to the fore for our late first round picks.

Hunter Clark will probably be gone and there are rumours of a flight risk too.
Charlie Constable has been mentioned a few times. I see here that some are not keen though. If we take Rayner at 1 then surely we'll be looking at inside mids at 15 and 18 though.
Oscar Allen is becoming popular to take at 18 but what about 15? Is he likely to be taken at 16-17?
Aiden Bonar had a good end to the year and combine, so would also be in the mix for us at 15 if still on the board but I doubt if he'll be there by 10 never mind 15.

Others to consider but seem to be slipping down the popularity lists include Lochie O'Brien, James Worpel, and Zac Bailey.

To be honest, there should be plenty of talent still around at our picks and we might end up going for someone left field at 18 but I'd be ok with that. I think if we take Dow or LDU with pick 1 we might see some surprise later on but if we go Rayner, Stephenson, we'll be hunting the best inside mids still on the board.

If we picked Rayner at 1, I'm not sure we'd pick a third tall type in Oscar Allen. Also, you would have to think Rayners team mate, inside midfielder Lachlan Fogarty would be a serious consideration at pick 18.

Alls fair in love and war. And AFL drafts.

I've been giving serious consideration to the Lions bidding on Patrick Naish at pick 15. Removes any possibilities of Richmond bidding on Ballenden at pick 17, and increases the potential player pool at our pick 18 by one player.

I reckon that 25 + 20 for 15 trade would have included a handshake and a wink to keep our hands off each other's academy & father son options. The whole point of that trade was specifically about those players.

Would be stupid to go back on an agreement like that.

He'd be bid on before that depends on how clubs rate him...Sort of agree..very unlikely it will be us..but other clubs may feel he fits their needs and will Make the Premiers earn their players by having to match bids.. Nothing like weakening the opposition here is a snippet

From an earlier article of clubs interested in him ..I added the draft picks Fremantle,(picks 2 & 5) Brisbane Lions(1,15,18) and Western Bulldogs (9 & 16) all met with him....St Kilda (7 & 8), Collingwood (6) and West Coast (13 & 21), as well as the Lions and Dogs, have previously paid house visits...if the Tiges thought we were a threat...and a deal was nutted out between us and them...Seems that the Dogs were just as interested....FWIW Carlton have (3 &10).

Those are the draft picks they ended up with so are a bit deceptive, as most of those visits would've been prior to the trading. :) For example, St Kilda also had 27, West Coast had 32 and Collingwood had 38 where they all might have viewed potentially Naish sliding to, or if they'd ended up with picks in the sweet spot of their valuation of him due to other trades.

...

Not really, the visits were also before the end of the season where the finalisation of positions had not been determined..Richmond had not confirmed, at that stage, if they were going to take him father/son, that was always going to be a possibility. (Not too many rated Richmond to be premiers.)..:) ..Clubs wanting Naish have rated him fairly high and would use the trade period to put themselves in a position to acquire his services... Those interested Clubs knew Richmond would be in the top eight, and would have 2 picks from pick 11 to 17 (tigers 1st and the cats 1st) and as the article below suggest the tiges would have to pay a high price ...Clubs had a better idea at the end of the home and away season they were 15 & 16(cats 1st)....After the GF that was 15(cats 1st) and 17 Where 2nd interviews took place... Saints retained their picks..Dogs positioned their 2nd pick at 16. Both clubs rate Naish highly.

"Hayes' Vic Metro teammate Lachie Fogarty could surprise to feature earlier than some expect on draft night.

Fogarty, who was ill during the Draft Combine and missed the full week of testing, has been linked to the Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions as a top-20 pick. He enjoyed a consistent season at all levels and has shown an ability to push forward and kick goals from the forward line."

Just to give you guys my final grouping:

1. Paddy Dow
15. Charlie Constable
18. Lockie O'Brien
40. Ryley Stoddart (would have covered a Ballenden bid)
44. Alex Boyse (Would have stayed the same and probably have been Stoddart if he were still around)
52. Jack Payne

I'm very happy with these for you guys. Dow and Constable give considerable strength to your inside game, O'Brien and Stoddart the same on your outside game. Boyse is a player I think suits you well as a sort of transition player from defence to attack which I think you lacked this year, and Payne as an academy player who could eventually become a best 22 member.

Good draft haul. Personally I'm not such a fan of O'Brien but his outside game and kicking would certainly be handy. Dow, Constable and in real life matching a Ballenden bid would allow for a pick like O'Brien I guess though

I think with our list changes we would want a key forward, likely Ballenden. Perhaps we could get a mature one on the rookie list though.

Yep. Ballenden is a guarantee to be matched. Boyse is definitely an option at 52 or whatever 44 gets moved back to as a sort of 3rd tall who can also play as a KPF.

It would make sense then that we are interested in Rayner for pick 1.. seeing that Rayner and Fogarty are good mates.

Cheers, much appreciated.

FWIW, I have Essendon in our mock - any suggestions as to what sort of players you might be looking at?

Would hate to stuff up my first pick for you guys knowing how key it might be!

(Pick 48), lol. :p

First time I have bothered to watch some Jack Payne footage, very small sample size but the kid looks pretty good, nice kick on him, intercept marks and makes quick decisions. Would be interested in anyone's opinion on Jack who has seen a bit of him live.

SSSSHHHH!

If Willie Walker is available there please pick him.

In all honesty we probably go 2 inside mids and hopefully a project tall
