Unbelievable we didn't get higgins. Crazy actually. #yearofthetiger

LOL!

Accept your having an opinion/favourites but when you stop sulking have a look at the kids we have selected, plenty there to suggest an exciting future!

If it means anything, Higgins was going to be our pick, until Richmond took him.
Thanks for the insights.

If you have time in the next couple of days, would really appreciate a more detailed post about what the recruiters said about our picks, who they were hoping would be around the mark at each pick, etc.

1. Rayner
2. Brayshaw
3. Dow
4. LDU
5. Cerra

That was our top five.

As for our picks, they really liked how Starcevich had the best agility score. Two academies were always going to be taken. I think someone has already mentioned it, but Wooller is a lot like Gunston (Conole’s words?) Hybrid fwd/hybrid mid who has good leadership attributes. Helps us replenish tall stocks after close/freeman/schache/hammelmann departures. We can’t go wrong with him in my opinion - recruiters obviously have same view.

*Not a top 10.

Next year is going to be doubly interesting with live trading set to be introduced, with the draft spread over two nights. And the first year we see quite a few rated Next Generation Academy (NGA) kids coming through, with North, Collingwood, Bulldogs and Hawthorn all having kids expected to be be bid on in the National draft.

Who are the managers of our draftees?
From the article I posted last week, Robbie D'Orazio from Connors Sports is Rayner's and Ballenden's manager.

You can google AFL Player Managers and search through each company for who they represent.

D'Orazio cleaned up the first round.

Do they become managers because they look dodgy or is it they become that way when they start as a manager.

It's a certain type of person that wants to spend most of their time hanging around with kids.

I can not find it, but there was an interview with Fagan a week or two before the the draft, where he was asked about Rayner playing for the Lions, and I thought his response was telling, when he said that he (Rayner) would have to meet set targets and markers in training and have to earn playing time.
Good news, lets hope Fagan brings in acceptable standards across all positions.

The lack of speed and agility in our small defenders was appalling this year.

Inhibits the mid field ability to attack the ball at 100% effort if they are concerned if gets past them the opposition score.

That Fagan stuck with that set up all year was equally appalling.

Lets hope that quote of his means he has learned.

I can confirm our recruiters had Starcevich listed as their 10th best player, while Bailey was in 8th. Club more than happy to get 3/10 top rated players.

They also view Starcevich as a Fyfe type - “in the mould” were the words. Very athletic and tested super well at the combine.
Recruiting did brilliantly again.....Bailey was sensational in the allies win against Metro... will not be beaten....u are on the money mate,Bailey would not have lasted, and Higgins s not the midfielder we needed.Starcevich is highly regarded at East Perth,a great club, and we got him thanks to the unbelievable stupidity of the West Coast, who again have failed to address their crying need for fast midfielders. Don't think Geelong did well at all...doubts over most of theirs.Apart from Freeo, and StKilda,no one's near our draft.

I liked Baileys highlights, would like to see more tackling in there.

But attacks ball drop at 100%.

Like it alot.
