Honestly the kicking test is a joke and if I was a club I would completely ignore the results. So I watched the tape of Payne. He really is a monster of a lad, but what else stand out is he has a laconic and fluid kicking action. I know scored 29/30 on the test, hoping it is a real asset in his kicking and not just a on the day fluke. Could have gotten a real potential player here!

He worked with the afl as an intern. So he had to fit everything in with a fulltime job.Yeah the leaving school was interesting. Did he actually do anything? Surely it wouldn’t have played much if anything considering he has a top character

No pressure at all and none of the players looked to have any urgency at all.
Yeah it’s the same for each player but the test is far too easy and bares not resemblance to match play. Scoring 30/30 wouldn’t mean automatically you’re a better kick than someone who scores 20/30But it's the same for each player. So if one does better then they're more likely to be a better kick.

Cutting but true. It's a certain type of person that wants to spend most of their time hanging around with kids.
So we had Bailey rated at 8, Higgins at 9 and Starevich at 10. I'm now glad Richmond took Higgins and we got Starevich. To rate Bailey ahead of Higgins makes sense to me, he has more pace and we need that in the midfield. He also has a higher ceiling I'd say, given Higgins admirable & well publicized commitment to getting the most out of himself. Starevich adds speed to the midfield and a bgiger body as well. I'm stoked with our draft haul.If it means anything, Higgins was going to be our pick, until Richmond took him.
I'm so glad we drafted with back to back premierships in mind.Four talls out and 3 in, but at least Toby Woller has that third tall mould, with the hybrid potential to play midfield at some stage. Although I would have liked Oscar Allen, I think he's a really good choice. Initially, I can see him holding down CHF in the twos, with Ballenden at FF and Oscar/Archie changing in the pocket. Still a pretty tall forward forward line, but one less than this year. Payne at full back, the mobile Eagles at CHB and Frost taking the resting ruck. Pretty well balanced with Paparone freed up to play the running transition role that he's best at. And that's barring injuries with Skinner not back till later in the year.
Different midfield in the twos will be interesting with the young guys given full reign to put pressure on the players in the ones. Development is the key, but we must be a reasonable chance to go back to back. Bring it on.
If it means anything, Higgins was going to be our pick, until Richmond took him.
I feel that the issue of standards was dealt with pretty bloody well by Fagan last year.Good news, lets hope Fagan brings in acceptable standards across all positions.
The lack of speed and agility in our small defenders was appalling this year.
Inhibits the mid field ability to attack the ball at 100% effort if they are concerned if gets past them the opposition score.
That Fagan stuck with that set up all year was equally appalling.
Lets hope that quote of his means he has learned.
Odd stat for the night: never before has a team spent their own pick on one of their academy players, but it happened three times tonight as Crossley, Payne and Shipley were all taken with their respective teams' last pick.
Not correctOnce you nominate a player in the draft (via academy or father son) you ARE required to draft them. As we nominated Payne, we had to draft him with our last pick if not bid on.

Discussion from yesterday was we possibly have one Cat B, QLD zone selection.do we have any rookie picks? If so any ideas who we will take?
